Story
Black Jack is a male, shepherd mix pup born 7/10/24. Black Jack is in the 'cell dog' program and is working on house training, crate training, leash walking and general obedience. He does well with other dogs and children. To meet Black Jack please FIRST apply on our website for approval: https://www.theroadhomeanimalproject.org/companion-adoption-form-pdf.html Black Jack's adoption fee is $450, which includes his deworming, neuter, vaccines (which include DHLPPC, Lyme, Bordetella & Rabies) and microchip with lifetime registration. *Note: please DO NOT apply if you are unsure about adopting a puppy. Yes, they are adorable and fun, but they also require a lot of work and full commitment by all family members. Thank you! ***100% of adoption fees go back to the animals and help provide for medical care for our rescues that need specialized medical care and surgeries. Please remember that we are a board of entirely volunteers that have full time jobs as well as our rescue passion. So, be patient with us and check out our Facebook page for more information and photo updates: facebook.com/trhap2014

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Boswell. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 68 lbs. I was found as a stray and I was brought into the pound. I am a very sweet boy. I love people. I am very loving and affectionate. I love belly rubs and I enjoy attention. I tend to follow my nose and forget that I have ears whenever I am on the go, so I don't always listen, but when you have my attention, I am very smart and listen well to basic commands such as sit and lay down. I have been great around all of the other dogs that I've met here at the pound. I would love another young, active dog to play with. I do a great job of keeping my kennel clean and I appear to have been a house dog before making my way into the shelter. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Nellie. I'm about 1-2 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was seized by the pound, along with 11 other dogs and puppies, after being found living in very neglectful conditions in the very cold winter weather. Most of us didn't even have shelter and those of us that did had less than ideal shelter and living conditions. My "shelter" was a piece of plywood leaned up against a propane tank that I was tied to. I had a bad case of entropion when I came into the pound, but had surgery for it on 1/17/25, so I am on the road to recovery and not having eye discomfort. I have not been a house dog in the past, nor have I ever been well socialized. I am a very sweet, but I am afraid of most everything. I do love other dogs and another friendly, well socialized dog would greatly help me. I am a little timid at first when meeting new people, but I am a very sweeet girl and I warm up to you quickly. I LOVE to snuggle into you and get attention and affection. I will need a patient new family that can give me the basic training and socialization I need. In addition to basic training, I will also need work with potty training. Although I may need work to be the ideal tog, I promise to pay you back for your hard work in kisses and cuddles! Hello! I am Binx! I am one handsome man, ready to sweep you off your feet! I was surrendered to the shelter after my owner had some health issues. I am so excited to find my forever family and start the rest of my life! I am very much a working breed dog and therefore looking for a family who has owned a breed like me before. I am a shepherd mix and have many shepherd tendencies! I am very smart, protective, active, and loyal. I love to learn new skills and show off how smart I am. I enjoy toys, snuggling my favorite person, and zooming around in the sunshine. I would do well with older kids or teens, I have lived with cats and did well, and I even have dog friends here at the shelter! I walk well on a harness and love to wear it (I actually run right to you to put it on and don`t like when you take it off!) I am a cool dude and would be a wonderful companion. Come meet me today! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. The Adoption Fee Includes:- initial canine distemper combination vaccination- first worming or stool check- rabies vaccination (for animals over 3 months of age)- 24 Petwatch microchipping- flea treatment/preventative- spaying or neutering-heartworm testingAdoption fee: $135.00Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2025 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. The cost of the license is $9.20. (Senior Citizen or Person with Disability-$7.20)Leash and collar included

Story
Hello! My name is Dempsey! If you are looking for an incredibly smart, heartbreakingly handsome, snuggly, cuddly pup, then I am your guy! I am a very sweet boy looking for a forever family. I love meeting new people and making new friends, I truly get along with pretty much everyone I meet. I am very active, energetic, and quite athletic. I love to chase toys, play fetch, and find pesky squeakers to squeak! I love to train and spend a lot of my time learning new skills here. If you have owned a shepherd before, you know that my mind is sharp and ready to work, and I can`t stand to feel bored or lazy. I want to learn new things and you know what? I`m really good at it! When I`m not learning or training, I can usually be found in an office here at the shelter. I am so well-behaved, I am an office fave! I am polite, sweet, and give the best cuddles. I am already housebroken and crate trained, and I am wonderful with the medical team (they say I`m the goodest boy around). I do need to be the only animal in my forever home and I need a family who enjoys working with a smarty-pants like me. If you have have owned a shepherd or similar breed before, you`ll be the best fit for me. I need a special family who can spend time with me, train me, cuddle me, and take me on adventures. Come meet me today! Here`s what the staff have to say about Dempsey, `Dempsey has the best hugs. He will cuddle right in and snuggle you up. He`s fun to train and teach new things and he`s always cracking us up. If I share a little snicky-snacky with him, he`ll eat what`s in the container and then bring me the empty container! He is so affectionate and is always happiest when he has someone to hang out with. He`s just the coolest dude.`If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings.
