Meet Paul Newman! This little heartthrob is as sweet as he is adorable. Paul Newman is ready for the good life; a loving home with a family to call his own. Can you believe someone dumped this little fellow, along with his two brothers way out in the country, thrown out like trash. Luckily, the brothers found their way to the home of a Good Samaritan who reached out to us asking if we rescue the pus...of course we said YES. Paul Newman is ready for his FOREVER HOME. Is that you? If you are interested, please contact us by email at cox_ann@bellsouth.net

She was born on 12/21/2023 She will be ready to move into her forever home by Valentines! She will be dewormed as well as have her first round of vaccines. I can provide any additional information. Story
Jasper is a 2 year old golden that wants to work and wants to please. He is highly trainable and would like a lot of activity. We adopted him a few months ago and have worked with him a lot at classes and with training, but he needs someone experienced with dogs and no children due to his insecurity around food and his history of leash pulling (which has improved significantly with a halty and harness). He bit an adult family member surrounding his food issues so we cannot have him in the home with small children.

Story
Brooke arrived at the clinic in lower Alabama in early June with the second group of seven Goldens relinquished by a puppy mill/dog breeder from Mississippi. Brooke was rather timid when she first arrived, like many breeder dogs who have been under-socialized. In fact, she hardly moved upon arrival at the clinic the first couple of days. Of all the dogs relinquished by the MS breeder, she was the most shutdown. She barely made eye contact and it was heartbreaking to see how resigned and depressed she was. Slowly, she has learned she’s safe in her surroundings, and, she has remembered how to play! She loves to run around the yard and even looks a little sly when playing “tag” with Tillie. In true Brooke fashion, she remains even-tempered and dignified, even when Tillie topples her! By far, of all the dogs rescued from Mississippi, Miss Brooke enjoys her treats the most. Her face lights up and she happily munches on biscuits and cookies! With patience, dedication, and unconditional love, Brooke will rebound (she’s already on her way) and will truly learn to trust people. Once she gets adjusted to her new home, she will know what it’s like to feel peace at last, and joy is sure to follow. (And, then, oh happy day: a wagging tail!) Having resident dogs to learn from is hugely beneficial as a retired breeder dog will generally feel more comfortable with another dog, and just seeing how the other dog interacts with humans. They can follow their lead on going potty, going up and down stairs, going for a walk, coming in from outside, and vice versa. A confident and calm canine companion is a requirement for Brooke's forever home along with a fenced yard. Brooke arrived at her foster home in MA in late July. Her foster mom shares, "Brooke has really opened up over the weekend, she’s wagging her tail and seems quite happy. Having another animal around would be good for her. She enjoys playing with her foster dog sibling. Brooke is so snuggly – she also likes to sit under the table or on the dog bed, she needs her safe spots, but will run to you to be petted. She eats and drinks well. They don’t love to be hosed off but she is good about it. Drying her off and having her ears cleaned was not a problem. No fear of water- she jumped right in the spring." Brooke is around 1 year old and is good with other dogs. Brooke weighs about 58 lbs and enjoys her treats. She keeps her kennels clean and only goes "potty" when let out in the yard. She is micro-chipped, spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. She was given a Proheart 6 injection that provides 6 months of heartworm prevention. It's time for Brooke to know about all the good life has to offer. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If you would like to be part of Brooke's rescue story and are already approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt Brooke. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. SGRR ADOPTION FEES - Effective May 1, 2020 (subject to change) $750 Puppy - up to 6 months $650 Young 6 months - 6 years $550 Senior 7 - 9 years $450 Senior 10 years and older $550 Young Special Needs $400 Senior 7+ Special Needs $1000 Young Bonded Pair $900 Senior 7+ Bonded Pair A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog. Story
In early June, Tillie arrived at the clinic in lower Alabama with the second group of seven Goldens relinquished by a puppy mill/dog breeder from Mississippi. Fortunately, the Goldens are now out of harm's way and receiving good care. However, damage has been done in forming their perception of people, but fear not, progress is being made! Trust in humans is developing for dear Tillie. Fast forward a bit and our volunteers note that Tillie now plays with Brooke out in the yard. Tillie loves to be petted and have her head stroked. She leans in for loving attention and delights in snuggles. A heartwarming development is seeing her tail wag, at last! Though timid, her playful side emerges, and she is extremely sweet and affectionate. Tillie is definitely the kind of dog who benefits from a calm and confident canine companionship, a requirement in her forever home. This beautiful girl will keep revealing her unique personality as she gets more comfortable in a new home. Tillie has been in a foster home in MA since late July. Her foster mom shares, "Tillie is a happy girl! She is initially timid, but then runs in for snuggles. She loves playing with other dogs, especially if she can get them to chase her. She is also always up for a snuggle and a nap. She is very respectful of the cats and would love one to play with. Check out her video with her kitty friend!) She isn’t afraid of having her ears cleaned or nails trimmed, just takes treats for all. She is interested in the wildlife around here and always has her ears perked! She’s not afraid of water, jumped right into the spring and laid down to cool off. She is the perfect petite size for fun!" Tillie is around 1 year old and weighs about 50 lbs and is a good eater. She is microchipped, spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. She was given a Proheart 6 injection that provides 6 months of heartworm prevention. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, have a quiet home, a fenced yard, and your specialty is TLC, please contact Cheryl to be considered to adopt Tillie. Story
This pretty blonde babydoll was found running at large along with Gryffin in Bay Minette, AL, at a location where dogs are frequently dumped. When Gryffin was taken into our rescue, the rescuers held off corralling Sugar as they noticed her enlarged teats and didn't want to leave her puppies without their momma. After a week or so no puppies were seen with her and the rescuers knew it was okay to bring Sugar to safety. It's likely Sugar and Gryffin were a breeding pair and when the nincompoops were finished breeding them, they discarded them like old unwanted shoes. Sweet Sugar is estimated to be about 4 years old and is a stunning blonde field-style Golden Retriever, weighing 65 lbs. She is shy and a bit unsure of herself, but she wants so badly to be loved and petted. One of Sugar's FAVORITE things in this whole wide world is peanut butter!! Each day she looks forward to her peanut butter-filled Kong. The staff will sometimes give her an extra Kong since she loves them so much! Sugar would do well with a mentor dog in her forever home; a calm and confident buddy who can show her everything is going to be okay. Since leashed walks were not part of her former life, she will need a physically fenced yard while her adopter helps her learn that the leash means fun. Sugar is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. She has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention. A loving, patient, and consistent adopter will bring out the best in this girl and she will become the dog she was meant to be! She has such a desire to love and be loved. With time, patience, and unconditional love, she will relish the feeling of being a cherished companion. If you can help Sugar unpack her bags and offer her the TLC she deserves, please consider Sugar. Sugar will be arriving in the northeast on August 10th to be directly adopted.
