PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.8/5/24 Meet Bruno! This handsome boy is currently at the Arkansas Paws in Prison program. See the end of this post for more info on the Paws in Prison program. He will graduate from the program in about 7 weeks.  Bruno loves kids and other dogs! He weighs about 80lb and is very strong. He seems to be a Lab mix. Maybe mixed with Great Dane or Mastiff but we don't know for sure! He’s a gentle giant who thinks he’s a lap dog. He is sweet and loves to play ball. He loves to romp and roll. And to him there’s nothing better than a backyard and a ball to fetch. He’s huge fan of fetch. Bruno is a friendly, social and affectionate 2-year-old. Right now, though, he’s lacking leash manners. But the inmate trainers will teach him the right way to walk on a leash. There is something about Bruno that is inviting, compelling and captivating. He’s a lab mix with a lab personality and warmth. Bruno is big, but goodness, he’s such a great guy! If you aren't familiar with the Paws in Prison program, it is a training program where dogs are paired with 2 inmates. These inmates have gone through training themselves, to learn how to properly train the dogs.  Once enrolled, the dog lives at the prison with the inmates for 8 weeks. During that time, they are trained in basic obedience. They learn skills like house training, basic commands, leash walking, manners, etc. The inmates and the dogs all meet with the trainer once a week in a common area, where all the dogs are together, and each week they show the trainer what they have learned, and get assigned new tasks for the following week.  Each inmate keeps a journal on their dog. The journal is passed along to the adopter one the dog is adopted. The journal tells all about the dog, what they have learned, what they still need to work on, likes/dislikes, etc. At the end of the 8 weeks, the dog goes thru the Canine Good Citizen test.  Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. Story
Charlie is a wonderful boy that just wants to be part of the family. He is kind, enjoys playing with other dogs and is respectful of cats. Charlie loves nothing more than going on long walks. Although he really enjoys being inside, you can often find him sleeping in the sun in the back yard. He is truly a gentle giant and enjoys taking a nap on the couch.

Story
Behr came to us through no fault of his own as his owner’s living situation had changed. He was hopefully going to be an emotional support dog as he has an easy going temperament. He still has some puppy energy and would benefit from romps in the back yard , possibly with kids and or other dogs which would be the best fit as he does not enjoy being on his own very much. He is house trained and crate trained.and he is neutered and pexied. Behr is super smart and and takes to training easily as he is very food motivated. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys time with his person.

Story
My name is Dixie and I am 8 months old. I came into rescue with my sister Dora. I am happy and playful and enjoy playing outside with the kids in my foster home and also with my sister. Dora is the more out-going one of the two of us, so when there are a lot of people visiting the farm, I watch Dora to see if it is ok to come over and say hello. I am very good at eating, sleeping and playing but I need more practice with walking nicely on the leash. If you think that I would be a good fit for your home, please contact your local chapter of the MAGDRL today!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Dolly has large Great Dane genes grafted onto a somewhat smaller body. Not that anyone would ever call her small, but you would say she's a manageable size, which is perfect. If you love the Dane look, but aren't sure you could handle a full size model, we have Dolly waiting for you. She is currently only 60 lbs., but that is a bit deceiving, as she is very underweight. We would like to see at least 15 lbs. more on her ribs and we are working on it. She is now getting top quality groceries, something she has never had before. Still a young dog, at only about 2 years old, she is in the process of learning about how to deal with the world around her and she is learning fast. Her foster has some comments to help you understand this 'dog-in-progress. 'She’s nervous around new people and things. She does warm up after a bit. Her initial reaction to people that she doesn’t know is to low growl. She is trying to tell everyone to give her a moment to process the new information. I don’t recommend a house with cats or small animals. She’ tries to chase down all the birds,  and squirrels when we’re outside. I’m fairly confident her life prior to rescue wasn’t a good one. It's heartbreaking seeing a good dog trying to cope with a world she was never shown. UPDATE:I have had her for a month now, and she is learning! I took her to the vet today, and while she was nervous, she did not growl. So there has been improvement on that aspect. She wasn’t super outgoing and wanting everyone’s attention, so definitely stand by the slower to warm up to strangers. I highly suspect she’s been abused. She is highly intelligent and learns new things really fast.  She really has the potential to be an excellent dog, and wants to be loved and please her person. MORE UPDATE: Since being here at my house over a month now I have some new insights into her. She is not dog friendly with all dogs.  She's OK with my male dog, but not so happy with my female.  I've been working on getting her to ignore people on walks and she's doing better. She doesn't like it if strangers get to close when we are out.  In the yard. she's definitely going to need at least a 6 foot fence to keep her safely secured.  I will say, she is house trained and does let you know when she needs to go out. She also does very well in her kennel. She is very smart, and can learn things pretty quickly. She has all her shots and is ready and waiting for the person or family who like bigger dogs, but aren't ready for an actual Goliath. Dolly is a good girl! She is hoping you will want to help her be a good dog and come for her soon.   If you are interested in Dolly, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2024, 2:58 pm
