Story
Introducing Carl! Carl can easily be described as a gentle soul. He loves nothing more than seeing his favorite people and going for walks with lots of treats. He also loves his football toy! Even at 8 years old, he still has the heart of a puppy. In his short stay at the shelter, he has won over the hearts of staff and volunteers alike. You simply cannot help but to fall in love with him once you see his soulful golden eyes. Carl is, simply put, one special dog who is deserving of a good home. Carl being the dream that he is, one can wonder, why is he still at the shelter? Unfortunately, Carl came to us experiencing medical complications that have made finding the right adopters a challenge. Carl recently went in to the veterinarian for bloodwork and radiographs after we noted that he had blood in his stools. The veterinarian found a small mass in his rectum that needs further attention. We do not yet know if the mass is cancerous or if it is just a polyp. This would require further diagnostics that we may not be able to cover as a non-profit without some help. He will require an adopter who is invested in his medical needs to get him to live a comfortable life. An adopter who understands that while Carl is a senior and has some medical concerns, he is lovely and deserves a second chance. Carl is selective when it comes to other male dogs, so he would prefer a home to himself or a female dog to share it with. He is also not a fan of kitties. He will come with a reduced adoption fee for the right home. Please, if you are interested in helping Carl and wish to adopt, be sure to fill out our adoption questionnaire at: https://hsjcwa.org/adopt-a-dog

Story
Meet Willow, a gentle 2.5-year-old Great Pyrenees weighing in at about 86 pounds, who’s ready to steal your heart! Fully microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines and preventions, Willow is a loving girl with a playful spirit. She adores chasing squirrels and birds, and while she loves a game of fetch, she might just decide to keep the ball for herself! Soft and affectionate, she delights in hugs and kisses from her humans. Although she gets a bit nervous around the iRobot and fireworks—often running inside to hide—she’s a brave and resilient girl at heart. Willow has been thriving in a lively foster home with her Golden Retriever brothers, and she’s very protective of her 4-year-old human sister while remaining curious about her 1-year-old sister. House trained and crate trained, Willow will let you know when she needs to go outside with a gentle bark. While she’s still discovering her preferences with other female dogs and isn’t a fan of cats, she’s a true treat-lover—eating treats delicately from your hand—and she even knows how to sit on command! Having completed her heartworm treatment and finishing up her crate rest, Willow’s new adopter will receive 12 months of Heartgard to keep her healthy and heartworm-free. If you’re looking for a devoted, playful, and protective companion, Willow is ready to bring love and joy to your home. Adopt Willow today and let her light up your life! $200 Local Adoption Fee (in Texas) $450 Out of State Adoption Fee (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Valentine! ❤️ Valentine got her name because she was rescued on Valentine’s Day—a true symbol of love and second chances! She was found living in a junkyard with the help of a kind-hearted Good Samaritan, but now she’s safe, warm, and thriving. This sweet girl adores stuffed toys and belly rubs and is great with other dogs and kids. She’s a little shy at first but quickly warms up with love and patience. Valentine is learning to walk on a leash and working on potty training like a champ. Special Note: Due to her time in the junkyard, Valentine has a few hairless spots. While we’re hopeful her fur will grow back, the vet mentioned that some follicles might be permanently damaged. But that just makes her even more special! Valentine is ready for a forever home filled with love—could that be with you? Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)
