Story
Meet Papa Bear!If you have been following this handsome fellow on social media he's come along way over the 100 days in our care. His journey from being rescued in such a difficult situation to gradually becoming more comfortable with people, new environments and experiences is really heartwarming. This was through the dedication and patience by staff and volunteers. It's amazing to see how much he's grown, from being terrified of human touch to seeking out comfort in a bed. He's obviously still a work in progress, but with right guardian(s), he will continue to thrive and learn to fully embrace life as a pet. He will require some consistency and understanding in a new home. Papa enjoys the company of other female dogs and would do well with another one, (that's confident) in the home. He is not fond of cats and children make him very nervous. Papa Bear also requires a household with access to a safe and secure yard. You may ask what accomplishments Papa Bear has made thus far? Introducing him to being outside the comfort of his kennel; walking from his kennel to an outside yard; exposed to a collar/leash and harness: learning to walk on a lead graduating to adventuring outside of the shelter; to going on longer walks with staff/volunteers; familiarizing him to a vehicle, followed by a jump inside; short car rides to the park where he was rewarded with a good long walk; to a longer car ride and taken to a staff member's home. At first, being indoor a home was very overwhelming for him but he soon jumped up on the bed and relaxed. Do you think you might be interested in applying for Papa Bear, or know anyone who might be? Please submit an online application found on the SPCA Website. His journey could be such a rewarding experience for someone who has the time and patience to guide him.Papa Bear will need time to build some trust with his new guardians so an approved applicant will want to be prepared for a few bonding sessions in the shelter before the big day. Story
Palomo, born April 2023 is looking for a home. He is a husky mix and expected to grow to about 55 -60 lbs. His mum and littermates were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. Palomo was in the poorest health and would not have made it had the shelter not intervened. Unfortunately his shelter also recently was hit with a hurricane, so he'd really love a happy break with a real family to love him. Palomo is an energetic boy, who is house trained. His time in foster care has been with cats, which he is ok with unless they run, so he might be safest in a cat free home. He is also prone to chase other animals like farm chickens. Palomo is a chaser and is prone to want to chase cars and can be reactive to dogs on leash, but has been playful off leash with other dogs. Palomo would be best in a non urban area with lots of room to run. If you think you might be his happy home, please contact us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com for more information. You can find our application here: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw” Palomo can fly to Vancouver in mid November, with tbd flight date options for Seattle, Calgary and Edmonton depending on where his magical family awaits.

Story
Beautiful husky girl Chiquita, born April 2023,is 50 lbs and is looking for a home. She was rescued as a young puppy with her littermates who were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. After she got refuge in the sanctuary, she lived through a hurricane which heavily damaged the shelter, and she had temporary refuge in a home that unfortunately had a landlord that didn't allow dogs.. but in that time, she learned what a home is and what it is meant to be loved. Chiquita is an energetic girl. She’d love a yard with some space to burn off some zoomies but was in a foster home in an apartment. She loves the beach. She s a fast learner and likes to cuddle with her humans. She has learned basic commands - sit, come, waits to eat her food. She isn't destructive in the home and did well in the car. She is selective with other dogs, and can be reactive, and would squabble with her siblings. Kids make her nervous so she'd prefer a quiet adult home where she can learn more about the world. Chiquita would be best in a home without cats as she shows high prey drive. She is now healthy and vaccinated. If you think you might be her happy home, please contact us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com for more information. Chiquita is currently in Mexico but can fly to a Canadian home near you! If you'd like to go directly to our application, please find it here: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw Finding pets for you… Chiquita Chiquita

Story
Hiya frenzz! My name is Tula and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Husky Mix Age: 1 year 1 month Gender: Female Weight: 28 lbs (12.5 kgs)  Height: 50 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 65 cm (head to butt) Current Location: Guadalajara, Mexico  RESCUE STORY - My family surrendered me to the vet when I was just 7 months old because they couldn't take good care of me. I was hungry and desperately needed some TLC! My skin was very itchy and needed serious help too. The vet took speical care of me and I was dewormed and had my skin fixed too! I was at the vet for about 2 months and now am looking for my furever home.  I have all my vaccines and I'm a happy, healthy girl. I loooove attention and sometimes bark if I want you to play with me. My fosters say I'm not a noisy dog at all but can bark when I'm playing or want your attention. I am used to being in my cozy kennel or carrier, where I am very well behaved. At home I try to be sooo good but because I'm still a puppy, when I get left alone I tend to get into mischief  :D  TEMPERAMENT -  I am an active, loving and sociable dog. My fosters say I am sweet, active and adventurous! I loooove having doggy friends and get along well with others, although I sometimes am excited with my pup energy and can get a little rough. But I can learn to be chill! I'm very intrigued by cats and am so very gentle as I like to be around them, even thouigh I don't get too close. I am a good girl around children, but due to my puppy energy, I can be somewhat abrupt without intention. But I want to be a well behaved lady with with some behaviour training.  ENERGY LEVEL - Medium GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown (no footage provided) but testing can be requested.  Dogs –  Yes! I can be a bit rough with my puppy energy but I live with multiple pups and do well with them. Cats – Yes! I live with a cat now but I don't get too close, see here PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Work in progress. Positive reinforcement will help me learn! I just want to bounce around and enjoy my walks hehe. You can see me walk here House trained – Work in progress. I am still in the process of training to go potty in the yard. Crate trained - I may need some additional training and patience. Car rides - I may need some additional training and patience. Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: I am spayed and vaccinated. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. NOTE: I have a scar from sterilization and another from a previous dermatological problem that is now completely resolved. NOTE: dogs from Guadalajara are not microchipped. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + PST and GST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and it's adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.  ##2232003##

Story
Hi all, my name is Silas. I am a very loving four year old, male, husky mix who needs a new home. My family adores me, but I am not doing well with the new toddler in my family. Loud noises and fast movements are upsetting for me. So my family is making the painful decision to find me a child free home.  I am very good with other dogs and I adore cats. I would LOVE to share my new home with one of those fascinating creatures. Once I am comfortable with you I am very cuddly. I love to get belly rubs and to snuggle. You will love how well behaved I am. I am great on the leash, and have no food or toy aggression.  If you are looking for a dog to play and snuggle with who will keep you smiling, I am your boy. I am neutered and vaccinated. My adoption fee is $800 Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. ##1949542##
