Story
Meet Yoko, a 7 year old Alaskan mix we recently rescued from the dog sledding industry. Yoko is not just incredibly smart but also affectionate, loving nothing more than leaning into you for some cuddles. He's a true companion, happiest when he's with his people, ready to join in on hours-long adventures or simply curl up at your feet for a relaxing day indoors. Yoko walks like a dream on a leash, with minimal pulling and a graceful trot that makes it look like he's floating. While he can be strong, especially when walking he will pull harder when he sees other dogs, but he’s just excited. His main priority is always his person. Yoko's confidence shines when he's with someone he trusts, with his tail held high and a spring in his step. However, he can become reserved and anxious when separated from them. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys and has shown interest in using a Kong, although he can be a bit picky with his food. Some tasty gravy or a mix of kibble and raw food might do the trick! Yoko has been calm around cats but hasn’t come in direct contact with them. So a slow introduction is always best. Yoko is eagerly waiting to become someone's new best friend! Yoko will soon be neutered, is microchipped and up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500. If you’re interested in adopting him please fill out an adoption form

Story
Introducing Boston, the ultimate buddy for dogs and people alike! Boston is a social butterfly, getting along great with other dogs, although he hasn't met any cats yet. He's fantastic with kids and teens, spreading love wherever he goes. Although he started off shy, he's blossomed into a playful pup who adores attention and enjoys playing with toys. He's mostly house-trained, with just a few accidents along the way. He sleeps right through the night on his cozy bed. Boston loves the outdoors, especially watching birds and squirrels, and enjoys his walks, even though he can be a bit of a puller. He's still getting used to different noises but is curious about everything around him. With his beautiful brown eyes and loving nature, Boston is sure to steal your heart. Boston’s adoption fee is $500. He has been dewormed, is microchipped, is UTD on vaccines and will soon be neutered. If you're interested in adopting him please fill out an adoption form

Story
Hi everyone, my name is Rosette but my foster mom calls me Rosie. I’ve been crossing my paws every night in hopes of finding my furever home. I am an Alaskan mix, and finally got the chance to retire from the dog sledding industry. So much has changed for me which has been exciting but pretty scary and confusing. After living outside on a chain for 8 yrs, and having to withstand both extreme cold and hot temperatures every day, I can honestly say I don’t mind laying on my own bed and just watching the snow and rain fall from inside. I have been living with my foster mom now for over a month and I only had one accident, but I had an upset tummy then. I always go to the door to let my humans know it’s potty time. I love these tasty things called treats and my foster mom says I’m incredibly gentle and polite when I take it from her hand. I am unsure of these things they call toys and what to do with them, but, I do have a small red squeak toy that I bury in my bed every night and then I like to pat down my bed, its so comfy and I sleep all night. My manners are excellent in the house but when I go outside on walks, I get so nervous of all the loud noises I’ve never heard before so I pull very hard on my leash to get back home and onto my comfy couch. I think I just have to get used to the noises and eventually I’ll realize more and more that those sounds can’t hurt me. I have a foster brother named Jake, he’s ok for a Shihtzu I guess, but he barks so loud and I’m so quiet. I also have a foster dad too, I’m still pretty shy of him, he can pet me but I’m taking a while to really let my guard down with everyone. A definitely prefer a more quiet household. Rosette will be spayed on May 13th. She is dewormed, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400. If you’re interested in adopting her please fill out an application

Story
Ho ho ho! Santa, here! Yes - Santa - like the old man in the suit! I’m not an old man, though (I’m only 2), and I don’t wear a suit (cause I’m a husky-malamute, silly), but I will bring your family Christmas cheer all year long! Here are some presents I will bring to your home if you pick me: I am house and crate trained. I do mark in the house to start, but I am not yet neutered (we are working on that), so this behaviour will likely change once that’s done. I know how to sit, lay down, and shake a paw. I am a very social boy and love other dogs and people (cats, probably not cause I love to chase rabbits and birds outside). Gosh, do I love people!! I will jump up to give you kisses when I first meet you (though I am told not everyone likes that, so we are working on manners). I also really want to be a lap dog! And walking? Well that’s just the best thing ever, isn’t it? I walk well on a gentle leader and am still learning leash skills. I would be a fantastic running buddy if you’re into that! And the best gift of all is that I am very trainable! I’m so eager to please, I will do absolutely anything for treats and attention. I'm ready and willing to learn if you're ready to have me!

Story
Mahikan is a 7 year old husky rescued from the dog sledding industry. He is one BIG boy weighing roughly 70lbs. Best described as a loveable gentle giant. Mahikan is absolutely beautiful. He has been in his new foster home for a week now and has settled in wonderfully. His new dog walker upon meeting him, immediately said this one is special; his foster mom agrees. This boy will melt your heart. After living on a chain for most of his life, he still takes time to adjust to new situations, noises, and does not like being confined to small spaces. But let me tell you he is worth every moment you spend with him. You can feel the love and appreciation he has for his foster family. Mahikan would do well in most homes, and is great with other animals. He is extremely well behaved and can be left alone in the home without being crated. He is still learning commands like sit, and leash pulling but is fully house trained. With his relaxed and easy going nature in the home and enthusiasm and excited out on walks. He is the perfect dog for a family that likes to go on adventures and kick back and relax at home.

Story
Meet Violet! A 4 month old husky mix who was recently rescued from Northern Manitoba. Her looks alone could melt your heart and make you fall in love, but her personality will be what really pulls you in! Violet is a bundle of energy who will make a perfect companion for any adventure, even if it’s just a walk around the block. She has been practicing her leash training with her foster mom in their backyard and is excelling. Violet is already mastering basic commands such as sit, especially when it’s time to eat. When it comes to mealtime, she prefers to have her food all to herself, and if her furry friends try to sneak a bite, she will let them know. While potty training is still a work in progress, she is making great strides and with consistency and a patient family, she will be a pro in no time! Violet thrives around her furry companions. Regardless of their size, she makes friends with everyone! She has not yet been cat tested. Violet’s favourite pastime is playing with her doggy foster brother, playing soccer with her foster mom in the backyard, and chewing on her chew toys - especially a tasty bone! Violet absolutely loves the people who care for her, and she will quickly become a little shadow that likes to be by your side all the time. She would love somebody who she can snuggle up with at night after a day of play. Crate time isn’t Violet’s favourite, but with some positive crate training, she will be able to nestle in and feel safe in her crate soon. Violet is a bundle of both energy and affection. She is a loyal, playful, and loving companion who will add joy and happiness into the lives of the family she joins. She has traveled to Ontario for her chance to find her people and live a full and amazing life. She has touched many hearts at BSDRO in her short time with us, but she is ready to connect with the people she is going to spend the rest of her life with. Violet's adoption fee is seven hundred. She is dewormed, microchipped, and will be spayed and up to date on relevant vaccines at the time of adoption. If you'd like to adopt Violet, please fill out our application here: https://form.jotform.com/221626931360250

Story
Meet Ridge! He is a 3 year old Alaskan Mal/Husky mix that we recently rescued from the dog sledding industry. Ridge is a young and playful pup on the search for his perfect match. He adores the people who care for him but may take a little bit to fully trust the environment he is in. Once Ridge realizes that he is in a safe place with people who care about him, we can guarantee that you will be taken aback by this amazing dog. Ridge loves to be by your side at all times, whether you’re resting on your couch after a long day or whipping up a tasty breakfast in the kitchen. Although he doesn’t seek out affection, Ridge isn’t one to shy away from a good head scratch. Wrestling with his furry foster sister is Ridge’s favourite pastime. Although, his new found love for squeaky toys is a close second! Ridge’s curiosity and friendly nature can sometimes get the best of him on walks, he loves to try and make friends with everyone, from people who pass him to all the wild little creatures running around! Ridge loves his furry friends, although he becomes nervous around dogs who are bigger than him, so he would do best in a home with small dogs or dogs similar in size. He has not been cat tested. Ridge is house trained but he will need somebody to continue working with him on his crate training. If he has something to keep him occupied he settles in, otherwise he may be quite vocal. Although he enjoys to be outside of his crate during times where no one is home, he will need to be put away. He is not destructive but he does think socks are his chew toys so crating is the best and safest option until he beats this habit. Ridge is looking for his people. He’s a loyal dog who needs someone who is going to be patient, committed, and loving. Somebody who understands that he's had a rough past and needs gentle love. In return, you will gain a very special bond with a very special dog. *Ridge's adoption fee is seven hundred. He neutered and up to date on all relevant vaccines. If you'd like to adopt Ridge, please fill out the adoption application located here: https://form.jotform.com/221626931360250

Story
Meet Nova, Nova was rescued from one of the worst dog sledding kennels in September 2022. There were close to 250 dogs living on short chains in filth. She has lived in a home since her rescue day. She was so traumatized from her past that it has been so difficult to get her to trust fully. She has come a long way but still has more to go. She no longer shakes when you approach her. She willingly takes treats from you and gets really excited when it’s meal time or when you arrive back home. Nova doesn’t really play with toys and doesn’t really come for cuddles or pets and will need more work to enjoy being pet. She walks great on a leash, however at times will still attempt to “circle” like she is still tied on the chain. She is great with other dogs, cats, and kids. The home that Nova is in now is very busy and they feel that she needs a quiet home with possibly one other dog to help her build more courage. Her current home has 2 other dogs that are more dominant and we feel that this has prevented her from having her own confidence. Nova is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. If you believe you could provide Nova with the safe, stable environment she so needs, you can apply to adopt her, here: https://form.jotform.com/221626931360250
