Story
We adopted Zora from a last litter program. Went through Cali-K9 training program and is incredibly well-behaved and obedient. Super intelligent. She knows many commands and is sociable around people and older kids. Loves attention and play. She can be left home alone both free roam in a room or in a crate. We are surrendering Zora because she has anxiety which normally does not surface but can be triggered when she is startled/scared. Zora bit husband two years ago when a coffee mug fell and he quickly reached to pick it up. She has developed specific response towards husband where she alternates between periods of anxiety and calmness with him. We have attempted calming aids and other behavioral modifications but Zora does not get along with husband and still gets anxious with him. Infant in home presents new safety risk given her anxiety and we really want Zora to have a comforting home she deserves.

Story
Maui is a beautiful, sweet, and silly 75lb Double Doodle (her wisdom panel shows 45% Labrador Retriever, 32% Golden Retriever, 22% Poodle, and 1% Flat-Coated Retriever). She came to SPAR facing life and death, having to undergo her second gastrointestinal surgery. She luckily pulled through the surgery and the weeks of recovery. She had previously had a foreign body removal 6 months prior as a puppy. Maui is looking for a special home. Having already used two (or more) of her spare lives, her body cannot afford another foreign body removal or gastrointestinal surgery. She cannot have access to any toys or anything left out she can chew on (blankets, dog beds, her leash, plastic dog bowls, etc). She sleeps in her kennel at night and is great around other dogs of all sizes. She is learning about cats in her current foster home and might be okay around dog-savvy cats. She would be okay in a home with older kids that understand the safety concerns of leaving things out where Maui can get into them. She has decent leash manners and enjoys going on walks. She is very smart and would love to take additional obedience classes to bond more with her new family. Maui also has already had an incisional gastropexy, so no future risks of GDV, or “bloat”. If you are interested in meeting Maui, please complete the adoption application. We go through a multi-step process for our dogs that includes meeting at the fosters home, a home inspection, and reference checks.

Story
Lab Mix Male, neutered 35 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Levi was picked up as a stray in Stockton, CA. One of his front legs had an elbow fracture that wasn’t attended to. The tendons were seized up in the fracture, so he couldn’t move his other joint either. The vets think he was probably hit by a car about a month before going to the animal shelter. He wasn’t well cared for before arriving at the shelter, but he was still the sweetest dog - loving everybody. Because of his bad leg, he needed a rescue group to take him in, so the shelter called us. Once he had his leg amputated, he became a whole new dog - loving the freedom of not having to lug around that useless limb. Unfortunately, he has osteoarthritis in his hips. The surgeon thinks his previous injury damaged the blood supply to his hips. He needs to stay thin and active with low impact exercise. Luckily, he loves to get daily exercise! Watching him run around, you wouldn’t guess that he has hip issues. He will be need to on lifelong arthritis treatment. He currently gets monthly injections of Librela and Adequan and a daily joint supplement. No surgery is recommended on his hips at this time. Levi loves going for walks and going jogging. He is leash reactive when other dogs are close, but when they are across the street, he doesn't react and has learned "look" to get a treat and focus on his foster mom. He currently wears a muzzle while out for walks for when a close encounter is unavoidable and he does well with it on. Levi lived with a large dog in his foster home for eight months and was great with him. He would do well being the only pet or living with the right dog with slow introductions. Levi entertains himself with chew toys and stuffed Kongs when he's home alone and does well by himself. Fetch is Levi's favorite game in the backyard and the house and he is good about bringing it back and dropping it. At home care is easy with Levi, as he allows ear cleaning, nail clipping, brushing, teeth brushing, monthly injections and getting a bath with no problems. He loves to cuddle up next to people on the couch and in bed. He has met a lot of strangers of all ages and does very well with everyone. Bikes, skateboards, canes, hats, etc. don't bother him. Levi is potty trained using a dog door. Levi has shown some prey drive tendencies in the backyard, so he probably wouldn't do well in a home with cats. He also shows some barrier reactivity with the neighbor's dog, and is still working on that behavior. If you are looking for a super sweet, smart, resilient dog and are up for continuing his training and arthritis meds, Levi might be the dog for you. He is also a great watch dog. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. For more information about Levi, contact: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com

Jouri is a sweet and happy girl! She loves her humans and good with dogs of all sizes. Jouri and her siblings are now in a foster home with many big and small dogs. They are trained at a very young age to be off leash around the mountain where they live in. She is doing well in her foster home and ready for her forever home. Jouri started some leash training and is learning at a good pace. She is crate-trained and doing well on her housetraining. She rides well in the car and can wait patiently while her foster mom runs errands. Jouri is a wonderful dog and will make a good family dog. Jouri’s Rescue Story Jouri’s mom, Journey, was abandoned on the streets. She was pregnant and struggling to find enough food to keep her going. A kind lady that lives in the area would often bring her food. However, she could not give her a home. She reached out to an experienced international rescue organization to help her. They quickly rushed to rescue her and took her to the vet for a complete health checkup. The next day on May 28, 2023, she gave birth to 4 puppies. Jouri and her siblings were able to spend their first month with Journey before she got adopted. Jouri had a thorough medical checkup. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchip, and passed negative on her blood tests. Please give Jouri a loving home where she will never be left behind again. NAME: VANNA GENDER: FEMALE BREED: FORMOSAN MOUNTAIN DOG MIX COLOR: BROWN AGE: 2 YEARS OLD WEIGHT: 36lbs SPAY OR NEUTER: Yes MICROCHIP: Yes If you would like to give Vanna a forever home, please go to www.adoptadoggie.org to fill out an online application with home photos. Vanna is a sweet and shy girl! Vanna loves her humans, gentle with children, and good with dogs of all sizes. She has a good temperament and lots of love to give. Vanna has been through a rough start in life and is shy with new people at first. She is doing well in her foster home and ready for her forever home. Vanna started some leash training and is learning at a good pace. She is crate-trained and doing well on her housetraining. She rides well in the car and can wait patiently while her foster mom runs errands. We are looking for a committed family that will continue to train & socialize her to help her build confidence. VANNA’s Rescue Story Poor Vanna and her siblings (Vannette, Vannetti, and Vannette) were living as stray dogs in the mountain. They were rescued by a volunteer of a TNR rescue group. The rescue has a temporary rundown place for the dogs. TNR groups specialize in getting stray animals spayed and neutered and the animals are returned to their original location to live as homeless dogs. TNR programs help with the overpopulation of unwanted animals. The volunteer reached out to an experienced international rescue organization to help with them and some other puppies that are still too young to be released back to the streets. The founder of the rescue organization has over 180 dogs waiting for homes. However, she could not bear to see them going back to the mountain and suffer on the streets. She agreed to take them home and give them a chance in life. Vanna had a thorough medical checkup. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchip, and passed negative on her blood tests.
