Story
Looks like: Labrador Retriever mix Female, 8 years old (estimated), 68 pounds Magnificent Mihla is a sweetheart with lots of love to give! She has these mesmerizing eyes full of wonder and adorable floppy ears that really make her stand out. Miss Mihla enjoys spending her time going for car rides or long walks, playing surgeon with squeaky toys, alerting her fosters about squirrels and birds that dare to cross her path, and attending training regularly to work on building up her leash manners. This lovely lady would be ideal for a home where she can be the star and not have to share your attention but she may also fit right in with a household that has a mellow dog who doesn't mind sharing the spotlight. Due to how excited we have seen her get around prey animals we suspect she may not be ideal for a household with cats. We have not seen how she is with children. The SPCA of Monterey County reached out to us for help because Mihla was becoming increasingly stressed in the shelter environment. She was a favorite among many volunteers who worked with her there, so how could we resist?

Story
Looks like: Lab Mix Male, 10 years old (estimated), 84 pounds Wiley isn't particularly wiley at all. This sweet giant is more of a couch potato than anything else, and he's looking for a fellow potato partner. This big, beautiful boy spent much of his life outside and is now relishing in the comfort of living inside a home. Give Wiley a comfy spot on the couch after a short walk, give him all the pets and kisses, and he'll be your best friend. This poor sweetheart was confined to a yard for most of his life, but despite the scant interaction with people and animals, he's a sweet, gentle guy. He is sometimes shy when meeting new people but warms up quickly. Wiley coexists with other dogs that do not expect him to play & do not get in his face. Wiley has done well with cats in the past, and while in his foster home has avoided neighborhood cats while out on walks. Wiley would do best in a home without children, as loud activity and quick movements can sometimes frighten him. He has grown accustomed to a quiet environment that allows him to nap the day away and seems to appreciate his daily routine. He's recovering from a skin condition and may need medicated baths periodically. Wiley is an easy keeper who loves the company of his person. Wiley's former guardian moved into assisted living and was unable to take him along.

Story
Meet Jack, a sweet and gentle 3-year-old dog who is ready to find the loving home he deserves. Unfortunately, Jack was surrendered to the shelter when his previous owners had to move, and he is now looking for a second chance at a stable and peaceful life. While he may be a bit shy at first, especially in new environments, Jack is incredibly kind-hearted and will thrive with patient, understanding people who are willing to give him the time and space he needs to build trust. Once he feels comfortable, he will show his affectionate side, offering gentle companionship and loyalty. Jack enjoys regular walks, making him an ideal companion for someone who enjoys low-key outdoor activities. He would do best in a calm, quiet home where he can settle in at his own pace. With a bit of patience and love, Jack will surely blossom into the loving and loyal friend you've been searching for. If you're looking for a dog who is gentle, well-mannered, and in need of a peaceful environment to feel secure, Jack may be the perfect match for you! Good news, I qualify for our Foster to Adopt program! Call 831-373-2631 to learn more. I am eligible for a Doggy Day Out, apply at www.spcamc.org/day-out to take me on an outing! HI - I'M CHARM! I'm a sweet and playful 1-year-old Lab-Boxer mix in need of a foster or forever home! I was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and originally came from a hoarding case. I'm a happy girl who loves people and other dogs. I weigh only about 50 lbs and would make a great dog for an active single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I would do well with another dog in the home. Please email for an application.

Story
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM HOLT! Holt is a 2-year-old Black Lab mix in need of a foster or forever home! He is a good, happy boy who is full of life, and still a puppy at heart. He is dog friendly, people friendly and affectionate! He is loyal, gentle and smart! While he loves companionship, he also can be independent and dignified. Holt needs an active person or people as he's quite athletic and will benefit from regular exercise, such as walks, hikes or runs. He pulls a bit on a leash but is easily corrected. He is a sweet boy, and weighs between 65 and 70 lbs approximately. Please email for an application. He deserves a home for the holidays!

Story
WOOF - MEET TEAK! Teak is a young and energetic red lab/pit mix in need of a foster or forever home! On paper he's 2 years old, but we think he's just a pup, around 1 to 1-1/2. Teak is an 80-pound happy boy who will benefit from some basic training and commands. He's a smart learner, and he needs someone who would love to help him transform into the best dog ever! He is learning slowly to walk on a leash, as nobody ever taught him before, so would do well with someone who has a backyard and room to run, while he gets up to speed. Teak was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and was one lucky boy to get saved. He's a handsome dog with a gorgeous red coat, and is always happy to see his person. He would also do well with an active person or people who can take him for hikes and other outings. Please email for an application.

Story
MEET HOWIE! This happy, gentle lab/pit mix is a loverboy! Howie is 5 years young and has a heart full of love to give. He was rescued from a California shelter in very rough shape - he had major skin issues/hair loss and had clearly been neglected, but now he looks so much better! He's appreciative of love and attention and is a very affectionate boy. He's a big snuggler and will want to share your bed. He loves going for walks and other outings. He is good with some dogs but not others, so would probably thrive as the only dog in the home, or with a submissive female. He's been waiting a long time for his own home, and we're hoping 2025 is his year! Howie currently needs a foster or forever home. Please email for an application.

Story
Weight ~ 50 lbsCaprice is one of our dogs transported up from LA and she has a serious underemployment issue. She`s looking for a job in the herding, agility, scent work, dock diving, or flyball areas. She just wants to use those smarts she was born with, and also get her ya-yas out. When she`s not organizing your garage or balancing your checkbook, she just wants to hang out with you and watch Jeopardy, or veg out to a good rom-com. Caprice recently spent some time in a foster home, here is what they had to say about her: `She really loves looking out the window and people-watching. She also enjoys belly rubs, playing fetch, basking in the sun, and watching TV. She is super friendly with new people and warmed up to my roommates in no time. I will say, though, that she has a lot of energy, so my roommates and I try to walk her three times a day. When we walk, she tends to pull a bit at first, but once she gets a little tired, the pulling stops. She can be left alone for short periods, but she doesn’t love it. She knows basic commands like `sit,` `off,` and `gentle.` She is extremely smart and very trainable. Oh, and she also loves looking at herself in the mirror! She enjoys long walks and has no problem walking far. She is not food-aggressive at all and is very good about eating her food. She has shown some prey-drive on walks with small animals. She does well when putting on her harness and leash. When trying new things or visiting new places, she gets very excited and can be a little frantic at first, but after a while, she calms down. I think she needs a home that is very active and willing to take the time to get to know her and train her.`If you want a smart dog that`s also fun and sweet, call our adoptions desk or stop by during Browsing Hours: Wed-Sun 11-5.
