Story
Harvard is a special boy looking for his perfect home. Harvard has some behavioral challenges that will need to continue to be worked with ref: resource guarding.  We do not recommend a home with children solely due to the resource guarding- and kids sometimes don't remember to stay away from a dog when they have a toy/food.    Harvard LOVES puppies. Adores them. He is good with most large dogs as well.    Harvard thrives on structure and once he loves you, he loves you so much!    Harvard is at risk of being euthanized. He has been at the shelter over a year and we are OUT of room! August 19, 2024, 2:27 pm

Story
Hello, my name is Emerald, and I am a gorgeous girl! I'm currently up to date on my vaccines and have been spayed. To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalres

Story
Nellie is a super sweet dog who has had lots of obedience training and knows lots of commands! She knows sit, down, shake, place ("break" to leave her place), heel, and drop it. She is housetrained. She loves to run, swim, hike, and play but also loves her snuggles. She is an awesome dog who happens to have some anxiety around other dogs that can show up as aggression, so she needs to be an only pet in the household (she's been fine with us walking her near other dogs on a leash - we just don't let her actually approach them as a precaution). She's never shown any human aggression but since she is nervous around new people/situations, we recommend no young kids/toddlers in her new home. She does take a daily anxiety medication that we just started for her to help her adjust to being in boarding and to a new home. She may be able to transition off this medication once she is used to her new home. It is not expensive, so don't let the meds be a reason to not consider this adorable and very smart girl as part of your family!

Meet Knotts This gorgeous boy is Knotts. Knotts was pulled before he was euthanized for space. So sad these perfectly wonderful dogs could lose their life because there is no space for them and they’ve been let down. But, Knotts has moved on and is a happy boy. Knotts is a Labrador retriever mix. We just can't believe he has been waiting patiently at our shelter for almost two years. He is now 3 years old, and you just couldn't find a sweeter dog. He’s a great size at about 40 lbs. Knotts loves being with people. He loves people and gives slow motion hugs to just hold on for a snuggle. Knotts loves being with other dogs and is friendly toward cats. He loves to run and play. A containment fence will be a must for Knotts. Knotts will thrive with an active family. Story
Meet Gus Gus is the face of second chances. He was surrendered to us completely unsocialized and terrified. He had had little to no human interaction. Gus’s mama is a purebred chocolate lab. His daddy was a wandering opportunist. And Gus was just another unwanted mix breed puppy. But our intake coordinator saw something in this sweet and terrified young puppy and welcomed him in. If not for our shelter, where would he go? What chance would he have? Gus got lucky. Gus is about a year old now. He’s been quite a project, but months of patience and consistency have paid off. His transformation is nothing short of a miracle. When he first arrived, Gus had to be carried to his kennel. He was shut down, afraid to look at anyone and completely petrified. But Gus is smart, and our staff and volunteers are that good. After months of talking with him quietly and giving him treats, and letting him decompress and observe his surroundings, Gus started to understand that he was safe. Gus watched how we treated our other dogs, taking them in and out of kennels, walking them, petting their heads and being gentle with them. He decided to begin trusting us and we could see his demeanor change. He started letting us work with him. We first introduced him to leash walking. It did not go well LOL. Gus would alligator roll to get away and fight the leash. But with consistency and treats and a lot of patience, Gus finally got it. He’s now a great leash walker, walking for our staff and volunteers and even a little eager to get going. Gus then started feeling comfortable enough to go into our play yards. Where once he wouldn’t leave his kennel, he loves the yard. He loves the fresh air, the grass, the space and the chance to greet the other dogs out there. Gus is dog friendly and will do well with another dog in the home. Gus will love a doggie friend to play with and show him the ropes. We’re also teaching Gus commands to build his confidence. He’s quickly picked them up. Gus is thriving with so much attention. He loves it and every day he becomes a happier, more outgoing, friendly, and confident young pup. Gus even likes traveling in the car and he did great at the vet for his check-up. Gus has gone from being a completely shut down and terrified young dog, to a brave, friendly, gentle, earnest, loving, smart, wonderful dog. Gus is going to make for a fantastic family companion. He’s ready to find his furever home. If interested in welcoming Gus to your heart and home and showing him what a loving home feels like, pplease submit an application online at: charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Once you submit it please email or call us so we can verify we have it.
