Story
Mikey has a tragic story with an amazing chapter, will you be his happy ending? Mikey is a special boy that came to the shelter after being hit by a car. He had a broken vertebrae and was unable to walk, stand or use his back legs but with the help of his rescue team who didn't give up on him, regained full use of his legs. He rehabbed so well he now goes for runs with his foster mom. Mikey is a fun and energetic boy, who doesn't know a stranger! His past times include playing fetch all day and cuddling with his foster parents and siblings. Mikey currently lives with other dogs and does well with them. However, struggles with social anxiety (who doesn't). Which means Mikey is just a good ole fashioned home body. However, he does like a good peaceful car ride. Mikey does have a high prey drive, which explains his expert ball fetching skills but means he shouldn't be around other small animals. Want to help Mikey get his forever home; follow him on the social: https://www.facebook.com/mikey.needs.a.fur.ever.home If interested, please fill out an adoption application on our website, sketchymuttsandunderdogs.org *Adopters must live in Central Indiana, no more than 45 min from downtown Indy.

Boo (aka BooBear) is a Labrador Retriever mix who is about 6 years old and 70lbs. He is a very smart boy and is house and kennel trained! Boo loves to play and go for walks! Whether you’re throwing around a toy for him or he’s running around with his doggie friends, this boy is always down for some fun. Due to his high energy and playful personality, Boo needs a calm and steady environment with an experienced owner and a fenced in yard where he can run to his heart’s content. Boo is a professional cuddler and he loves his people hard. This boy also loves a good spa day! His foster mom says he is spoiled and loves getting his bath, brush out and manicure. Of course no spa day is complete without his favorite treats that he loves and takes so gently. Boo can’t wait to find his forever family, if you match his needs, please inquire today!

Story
Birdie and his sister are rescues. They are border collie and lab mixes. They want nothing more than to chase a squirrel and then rest at your feet for the rest of the day. Small children make them nervous, so I don’t recommend a household with a child smaller than the dogs. Preteens and older would be great. They are sweet and lovable. They got very use to us being home over the pandemic and now that no one is home it is hard on them. Birdie would love to snuggle with you!

Story
Nash is a lovable, goofy dog. He has the biggest smile and tail wags when he greets people. He is very much an inside dog (even though he is a lab) because cars and busy city noises make him very anxious. He will play outside if you are outside with him. He is not a great walker, though (pulls on the leash to get back home). Nash also has allergies which require a daily dose of cyclosporine (which he takes very well when wrapped in a piece of bread with peanut butter), a Cytopoint shot about every 3 months, and a weekly bath. He’s had a doggie sister for 2 years and gets along well with her. He knows how to sit, shake, and lay - very good motivated and learns quickly when treats are involved. He really is a great dog who requires a little more medical attention because of his allergies. We have started new jobs that require travel most of the time and it isn’t feasible to board him that much.

Story
"Personal space? What's that?" - Elva Elva is our resident Wiggle Queen and master of the zoomies! This playful pup needs more room to run and a family that can keep up with her energy. She's housebroken and crate trained, and she's got her commands down pat - sit, down, leave it, and off. When it comes to playtime, Elva is a toy enthusiast! Her favorite? Tennis balls, which she can turn into confetti faster than you can say "fetch!"Here's what her foster has to say:"Elva is hands-down the sweetest dog I've ever met. Her approach to cuddles is delightfully chaotic - imagine a wiggle-worm with an unending supply of energy trying to figure out how to settle in for a snuggle. She's got the heart of a lover, even if her technique needs some work. Just keep petting, and she'll eventually find her groove! And forget about ‘me-time'. Elva believes that if you're on the other side of a door, something's gone terribly wrong. Whether you're in the bathroom or taking a nap, she'll be right there, demanding full-time, doorless togetherness. When it comes to playtime, tennis balls are her jam! She's got a knack for turning them into confetti in no time. I had to keep a stockpile because her sad puppy eyes are impossible to resist when she's managed to shred another one. I mean, look at that face! Elva's energy levels are off the charts. She could run a marathon, take a power nap, and be ready for round two before you've even caught your breath. She's a whirlwind of fun, and with her around, life is one endless adventure!"Elva's been known to get the craziest zoomies when she's happy, zipping around with pure joy. While she's lived with other dogs before, she would probably love to be an only dog and be spoiled rotten! She's also had her fill of cats, so a feline-free home would be perfect for her. Elva's ideal family will have kids who are 14 years old or older, ready to join in on the fun and keep up with her antics.Elva can't wait to start her new life with you - it's going to be an adventure packed with love, laughter, and a whole lot of zoomies!

Story
Resilient and full of heart, Gruff's journey has shaped him into the remarkable dog he is today. A year ago, Gruff and his owners lost their home in a fire, leaving him with scars as reminders of that tough time. Since then, Gruff has lived outside on a tie-out, longing for a warm and loving home. When Gruff first arrived at HSHC, he was understandably scared. With time and patience, he blossomed into a social and willing companion. He spent four weeks in an administrative office, charming everyone with his friendly, affectionate, and mellow demeanor. Gruff's gentle and quiet nature, combined with his intelligence and quick bonding, made him a staff and volunteer favorite. Gruff is completely housebroken and was never destructive when left unattended. He loves playing with his toys and readily shares them to start a game. Now, Gruff is a super snuggler who adores forehead kisses and gets along great with older kids. He knows his commands and is eager to share his love and loyalty with a forever family. Could that family be yours? Give Gruff a chance to brighten your days and find the happiness he truly deserves!

Story
If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Hi, I’m Kailey! I’m a very friendly girl who loves meeting new dogs and humans, and I enjoy playing with the resident dogs. I mostly ignore the resident cats, although sometimes I like to chase them when I can get away with it. While I would love a home with another doggy sibling to play with, it’s not necessary if an active family will take me for walks and give me lots of playtime. I happily share my toys with other dogs and occasionally go to doggy daycare, where I play in small groups. I recently played with a friend's puppy, and my foster mom said I did great! I was a stray brought to our local Indianapolis shelter in February 2024. Due to a severe injury to my rear leg, the decision was made to amputate it. Walking on three legs is a bit more challenging, but the surgery hasn’t impeded my ability to stand, sit, or run. I still get overly excited and can be jumpy, so a home with older children would probably be best as young children might get knocked over. I love giving kisses to kids. I can sit, lay down, and am working on learning to shake. My foster mom thinks I might be a Lab/Husky mix. I am spayed, weigh approximately 44 lbs., and am fully vetted. Right now, I’m long and lean with room to grow but will probably be a medium-sized dog. I am housebroken and in fact, I let my foster mom know when I need to go out and will patiently wait until I get outside. I am ready for adoption and looking for an active family that can provide me with love, attention, and plenty of playtime. If you think you could be my forever home, please apply soon! DOB: 8/1/23If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. Story
Zuri is 3 years old and full of energy. She knows basic commands like sit, down and stay but she could use more training as I didn’t do a lot of training with her. She is potty trained and hasn’t had an accident in the house in years. I take her to the dog park in Indianapolis so she has played with all kinds of dogs. She doesn’t do well with cats or small animals like hamsters. She loves children but has a tendency to play with them a little too rough sometimes. I’ve had Zuri since she was two month old and she’s a sweetie pie. She also LOVES people and is very friendly. She does require to be crated when left alone. She loves dirty shoes and socks but she hasn’t tore up a shoe in quite some time. She is up to date on her vaccinations and I have all her veterinary visit history for the last three years.
