Smitty is an 8-month-old, 40-pound Golden Retriever/Hound mix combining intelligence, affection, and plenty of spunk.
Smitty is sweet, well-mannered, and thrives with experienced dog owners. Having had little to no training during the first part of his life, he needs someone with patience and knowledge to guide him. His playful energy balances with his gentle nature, making him great with older kids and families.
Always ready for adventure, Smitty loves walks, hikes, and exploring. He requires a secure, fenced yard to safely burn energy. He's mastered basic commands like sit and paw, and eagerly continues learning with his quick intelligence.
Smitty adores socializing with other dogs but can be just as happy as an only pet with daily exercise and attention. He does best with someone home more often than not to provide structure and companionship. After playtime, he's equally content curling up for cuddles, showing his loyal, affectionate side.
Already housebroken and comfortable with his harness and crate, Smitty adapts well to routines. With consistent training and structure, he'll quickly adjust to his new home.

To ensure a safe and happy home for both our rescue dogs and your family, we require all children in the household to be at least 5 years old. While dogs make wonderful companions, they can become stressed or frightened by unpredictable movements and behaviors that young children naturally exhibit. Even the gentlest dog may react defensively if they feel threatened, which could lead to serious consequences for both the child and the dog. We want every adoption to succeed and every family member – human and canine – to thrive in their new relationship.
