Meet Butch, a ball of energy who crash-landed at BAS just before Valentine’s Day—clearly, he was out searching for his soulmate. This playful goofball has two great loves in life: tennis balls and treats (and honestly, same on the treats front). A volunteer let us in on a little secret—if you’ve got snacks, you’ve got a best friend for life. If you’ve got a tennis ball? Well, you might just become Butch’s favorite human ever.We don’t know much about his past, but we do know his future is looking bright. Could it be with you? Come meet him and see if sparks fly!

Story
This sweet face with the big brown eyes belongs to Waffles, a roughly 6 year old boy who somehow found himself lost. He showed up at a nice person`s house who told us he was very friendly, so she tried to keep him. Waffles did fine with her dog, the cows, and the horses, but her dog decided he didn`t want Waffles to move in. Waffles clearly had an owner as he also seems to know the `sit` and `stay` commands. Wouldn`t you like to have this sweet boy`s handsome face to look at every day?A volunteer told us, `Waffles is ready to enjoy his golden years in a loving home. He is friendly, outgoing, and easy to interact with. He is treat motivated and will sit for treats. He is also good on leash, making him an ideal companion for walks.`Foster notes:Waffles is very independent and sweet. He prefers to be outside. He likes to go on hikes with me and my 2 dogs. He gets along with my dogs and cats, but prefers to be alone I think. He has gotten along with all the people he has met. All adults, both male and female. He has gotten along with the 3 other dogs he’s met, all male, small and large. He is housetrained and has had no accidents in the house. He was in crate for first night and did well. We let him stay out after that. He’s not at all destructive, not a chewer. I don’t leave him out alone with my 2 dogs and 3 cats just to be safe. He resource guards, but only with the other animals. He has nipped at my cat, but was corrected right away and hasn’t done it since. He’s a very fast learner and takes correction well. He really is a nice dog! So smart and so trainable.

Story
Foster notes, 12/5/23:Rockafella is a good boy. He is a senior guy who has done well to meet and continue to greet the neighborhood children. He is anxious around unknown people and pets. So far, I have been unable to do much about his dislike of cats. It seems to be one of the only things that set him off. He takes 2 walks per day (am and pm), and gets to go out off leash in the back yard as often as he asks. He is arthritic in his joints and cannot jump, so he doesn`t get on the house furniture because of this. I have a ramp for him to get in the car. He doesn`t seem to mind riding in the car. He does get anxious about first time adventures. He does not know how to play with toys, but he will sit for a long time for a good petting. He is a smart dog and a fast learner at most times (except for cats). No house training was required for Rockafella! He knows `come` and will ask to go out. I find his behaviors easy to read when he needs or wants something. He is a quiet dog and barks only at cats, alerts me that he wants to come in, and at unknown strangers and reactive dogs on our walks. He has learned to ignore and walk past yappy dogs in our neighborhood. He does not pull on leash and is mostly a loose leash walker (slow to medium pace). I`ve had no problems leaving him at home alone for up to 4 hours. He likes to go out as soon as I get home. The only time he has gotten into things - he was hungry and was rooting for food. And that was only the first week I had him. Can`t leave bagged dogfood on the floor where he can get to it! He sleeps all through the night. He is developing cataracts. He can see but not clearly at a distance . He will stand and stare at something. If it moves he may lunge after it. If it doesn`t move, he will move on. This can be funny when he stares at a bag or toy, only to discover it isn`t a cat he`s looking at. He also will miss verbal commands, so his hearing may not be 100%. He doesn`t react to thunder or fireworks. His nose works fine! Rockafella would be a wonderful untrained service dog for a vet or older adult. He loves to be around me and will just either sit facing me (he wants something) or sit with his back to me(wants to be petted). Otherwise, he is sleeping. He doesn`t like to be outside for long periods.

Story
Foster Notes:`Rodger is the sweetest pup you would ever meet! From the day he came home with me, he has been the nicest, most well adjusted dog. He immediately trusted me and rolled on his back for belly rubs. He is the biggest cuddler ever. He loves to get as close as he can to you and just sleep. He follows me around no matter where I am going. Even if I am just moving within his eyesight, he is right behind me. He likes to go outside and sniff around but as soon as he is done with his business, he wants to go back inside. He doesn`t like to be outside for long amounts of time and he always wants me to be right beside him if he is outside. He also doesn`t really like to play with toys. He likes to have them with him while he sleeps but he doesn`t fetch or play tug of war. I tried to introduce him to other dogs and he seemed not to like them much. He immediately stiffened and started barking. They were both around his size, if not bigger. I also tried to introduce him to a smaller dog, and he still did not like them. While he is not fond of dogs, he LOVES people! No matter who he meets, he is automatically wanting to jump on them and he wants you to rub him. He has never had an issue with anyone but he doesn`t like to see people through windows, I`m not sure why. If you want a chill, cuddly pup to brighten your life, Rodger is the pup for you.Rodger is perfectly housetrained. As long as you take him out often and make sure he uses the bathroom, I don`t think that you will have any issues regarding accidents. He is walked on a leash and also allowed outside on his own, but he doesn`t like to be outside without someone right beside him. He is not crate trained but I don`t think it would be hard for him to learn if that was a goal of yours. He doesn`t do a ton of tricks or know a lot of commands. He only listens some of the time when I tell him to sit and he always gets sad when I ask for his paw, so I try to avoid that.`
