Story
Shadow is a playful and sweet boy who loves to run but needs a bit of discipline and training. We are looking to find him a healthy, happy, and an energetic parent. A family that will treat him like a part of their own family and keep him indoors and not chained outside. He loves to eat and hasn’t had too much human or dog interaction but will learn with a good parent. Only reason we are trying to place him in a new home is because we just had a baby and our home is small so it’s really difficult to give him time and proper space also we feel as if we can’t give him what he deserves. We love Shadow and he is a joy to have but ultimately want what’s best for him.

Story
Meet Wraven, a loving, spirited sweetheart! Her favorite activities are playing fetch in a fenced yard and chewing on a peanut butter-filled Kong. If you can throw a tennis ball, you'll have a friend for life in Wraven! Wraven is an intelligent girl who loves to shake hands, and has also mastered Sit, Bed, and Drop It. She sleeps through the night without a peep, and often enjoys slow mornings in her crate. Wraven is always happy to spend time with her people, and she shows her affection with lots of kisses, cuddles, and requests for belly rubs! Wraven has interacted with young children very gently but she is a big girl who needs a family who will provide good supervision around little ones. Although Wraven has cohabitated with two cats, she loves them too much and likes to chase. Wraven is practicing walking calmly on a leash. She greatly wants to meet and play with other dogs she sees! Training and patience will help Wraven become the best walking companion. PHYSICAL Wraven has a silky black coat and warm brown eyes. HEALTH Wraven is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative. HISTORY Wraven's previous owner brought her to a local shelter because of financial hardship.

Story
FranFran Frankie is a sweet, gentle girl who loves everyone! She is looking for a home where she can simply be herself, without other dogs or small children. But cats are fine! She is getting along nicely with the cats in her foster home. Since entering her IAR foster home, Frankie has been making a wonderful recovery from living outside and being neglected. Reveling in the delights of indoor life, she loves her cushy bed, the air conditioning, two meals a day, regular exercise, plus someone to love her throughout the day. Her veterinary care has included dental work, which has made a huge difference, and now she can really enjoy her food. Frankie is house-trained and sleeps through the night without accidents. She spends her days lounging on her bed and taking frequent naps. While walking is strongly encouraged for her joint health, stairs are a no go. Although Frankie is not used to walking on a leash, she does not pull and is happy to follow closely, albeit slowly. Walks (or strolls through the backyard) need to be short and on level ground, so no all-terrain hikes. She is getting accustomed to the everyday sounds, although loud noises startle her still. Frankie can't wait to find a loving home where she can live out her days in comfort and joy! HISTORY FranFran Frankie had a rough life for 14 years, chained up and neglected by her owner. But she had a guardian angel who loved her, and once a day brought food and clean water for both Frankie and her puppy (also chained), never missing a single day. That puppy, now 12, also was taken into IAR in April, and was just adopted! HEALTH FranFran Frankie is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She is heartworm positive and is being treated with the slow-kill method. She is taking fish oil along with MYOS for her muscles and joints. In addition, she is getting an Adequan injection and a Librela injection monthly. PHYSICAL FranFran Frankie has a beautiful short red coat with a tail that she uses for balance rather than for wagging. She has a mostly white face with a black muzzle and white on some toes.

Max is a happy guy ready for a good adventure! He loves exploring the great outdoors and getting attention from his foster mom (or really anyone - he has never met a stranger!). He is excelling with his training and knows lot of commands already like: "sit", "down", "stay", "place", "come", and "heel"! He can't wait to impress his new family with all his smarts and learn even more with them. While Max does love a good hike or run around the yard, he is also the world's best snuggle buddy. He loves curling up on the couch with his people after a long day and snoozing while you watch TV. He loves everyone from the adults in his foster home to kids of all ages! He has lots of doggie friends too that he enjoys playing with and hopes his forever home will offer him lots of chances to be the social butterfly he is! Max has great house manners and is totally potty-trained. He is also crate trained and will sleep in his crate at night or better yet, on a doggie bed next to you! He wants his new family to know that his favorite things to do are sniff, explore, chew on his bones, and play with toys! He can't wait to find the perfect family who will give him all the love he deserves (and he will give it right back to them, ten-fold!) Max has recently completed a two-week board and train at Oxford Farm Kennels where his trainer and the owner of the facility has graciously offered his adopters a lifetime of virtual training assistance! Max also did a DNA test and is excited to share his results! 30% lab 20% husky 8% chow 12% pit Shepherd beagle Super mutt

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I am a beautiful girl with lots of energy and love to give. I enjoy taking walks and runs with my amazing long legs. I`m a good girl but I am young and will need some guidance and general training. I love the people who come to visit me and seem happy to see other dogs too. I will need careful introductions to people, pets, and children as I can get really excited and that can be a bit much for some humans and pets. But I am definitely a lovebug!Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive. OCAS will be helping by beginning my treatment but you`ll need to follow up with your veterinarian! During treatment I will be on an oral medication and will need to get a topical solution monthly until I have a Negative Heartworm Test. If you have any questions about this please ask to speak with a member of the medical staff.INSIGHTS FROM MY DOG DAY OUT:`Parrot overnight stay was really good! She appears to be housetrained and knows the command `sit` and will come when I whistle. She has puppy energy still but will sit quietly under table when I eat. She gets easily excited and makes sqeaky barks. She walks when on leash until she sees another dog and gets excited. She calms down after a careful introduction. She is very food motivated and trainable. She likes to play with toys but not much interested in fetch yet. She loves people and and attention but needs to kearn not to jump up on people. She may get overexcited by small children so maybe better for family with older children. Very curious and investigates into everything. She doesn`t like being left alone, so crate training may be beneficial if she has any separation anxiety.`

Story
Hello all! This is Einstein and he came to OCAS as a stray, so we do not know much about his past. However, while being housed at OCAS, staff report that he is a super sweet guy! Einstein did very well for his exam and vaccinations on intake and has been a good guy ever since. He`s a big, loveable boy who loves to go on walks and play with large balls in the play yard at the shelter. He has been working on his leash walking and exercise helps him work out the stress of being in a shelter kennel. Einstein is food motivated for training. He can pull on the leash, but is very trainable so we think he`ll get even better on leash. He would love a furever home where he can get more time outside and exercising or going for long walks. He also wants love, yummy treats, and comfy dog beds. As always, we recommend slow and supervised introductions between any new and current animals/people in the home. If you have any questions, please ask to speak with staff.

Story
I took in my dog from one of my friends teammates in college. So I’ve had her since the very beginning of her life. She is now 3c years old, her birthday is August 20th, 2020, she will be 4 years old very soon. My fur baby is shy, anxious and gets nervous around new people at first( once she smells you and gets comfortable it’s like she’s known you her whole life). She is adventurous, energetic, sweet and playful. She loves going on hikes, fishing, and to the park. She loves to run around, play catch, playing with squeaky toys or simple play fighting as well as cuddling or having you hold her paw. She also loves treats, especially when it’s from our plates, ice cream or a pup cup. So basically what I am looking for is for someone to do all these things with her like I once was able to. Someone to love her unconditionally and fill her days with adventure again.

These pups are in Durham, North Carolina too!

Story
Meet Charli, a 27 lb small retriever mix. This short-haired tawny femme is inquisitive, playful, and rockin' her name-sake's Brat Summer vibes. We think she's about 2 years old, but don't let that fool you- she's a tough mother who was found with one 11 week old puppy! Charli will let you know how she feels with her sweet howls, and if you made her day with her happy tap-taps and super fast tail wags. Charli loves to play and keeps the party going - especially getting street cred for being the BEST walking buddy on leash (she couldn't be bothered to pull!). She's sweet and quiet when she's not in play mode, and loves a good stretch and a couch nap. She's also fully crate and house trained! Honestly, her sploot and tail wag combo would sell anyone on Brat summer!

Story
Gus is a special lady. It truly breaks my heart to be rehoming her. However, I am recognizing that my skills as a pet parent do not encompass the support she required. PROS: Gus has lived with 2 cats in the 5 years I have owned her. They get along great! She recently has had 2 dog roommates added to the mix and gets along well with them too with a slow and intentional interdiction. She can be silly, LOVES to snuggle, has an avocado stuffy that is her best friend. She doesn’t like squeaker toys, so she is quiet! Definitely low/calm energy. CHALLENGEShe is anxious, and so can be reactive. Because of this, I have been giving her Fluoxentine in the mornings per the vet’s instruction to aid her with her anxiety. She can get a bit protective of resources, so feeding separately is wise. She can jump/bare teeth when you sneeze or cough and does not board well. Gus is best suited for an experience adopter who is kind, patient, and willing/able to support Gus with her eccentricities.
