Story
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Madison is a 2-3 year old lab/shepherd mix who recently arrived from an overcrowded shelter. She found herself on the dreaded urgent list; we got her just in time! Affectionately nicknamed Maddie by her foster family, she is an incredibly loving and sweet girl who is ready to thrive in her forever home.  She is a great size at just over 45 lbs and has incredibly soft fur. Maddie's perfect day would involve cuddling up next to her humans to binge watch TV... although no promises she doesn’t snore through the show!    Maddie’s favorite food group is cheese… any and all cheese please! This is very helpful for training. Maddie has been through a lot of changes lately. Her family surrendered her and her sister with no explanation after adopting them as puppies two years ago. She was understandably nervous upon arrival to a new environment with new sights and sounds. She can be easily surprised, but settles quickly back into her default relaxation mode. She’s working on leash walking and being more comfortable outdoors. Maddie recently learned how fun treat training can be and has already made incredible strides in one week.    Madison does pretty well in her crate and is generally good with house training when kept on a schedule.  She's excited to keep working on this skill and earning more treats! Maddie is great with other dogs, and easily developed friendships with the pups in her foster home.  She would do well in a home with other pups to nap next to and play with daily.  She'd also be happy to receive all of her humans' attention as an only dog.   Email almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com to learn more about Maddie and schedule a meet! She deserves for her next stop to be her true forever home. (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. Story
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Finn is a happy-go-lucky 8 month old, 50 lb lab hound mix. This tall boy walks on a leash like a dream and is wonderful in his crate. Finn has spent the last 5 months in a shelter so many of your typical household sights and sounds are new to him. He is learning how to be a loved indoor pet.   Finn absolutely loves being outside. He would make a great hiking partner or a running buddy. If that’s not your style, no worries! Finn loves to run in the yard and play catch with himself. He runs around throwing his toys up in the air and catching them. And he’ll play catch with you, too! He actually retrieves and brings his toys back to you for more.   The best part about Finn is his A+ snuggling skills. He loves crawling up in your lap or snuggling in next to you for some pets and belly rubs. Finn gets along with other dogs and is compatible with cats. He can be nervous around young kids so a home with older or no  children would be best at this time.   If you’d like to meet handsome Finn, email almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com! He will make one lucky family so very happy.   (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! Story
Ready to See the World! Do you remember what it felt like to first discover the world around you? To be a bit shy but full of wonder and eagerness? That’s me! I’m a pup on the precipice of coming into my own. At just an estimated 10 months old, I’m still a little bashful, but with a loving home and family, I’m sure I’ll turn into a big, soppy pile of love. I weigh about 35 lbs, and I keep my pupish figure by staying moderately active. How? By playing, of course! I LOVE to play—whether it’s with toys, other dogs, kids, adults, or anyone else who’s game! Now, because of my young age, you might think I haven’t yet gotten the knack of the obedience thing. Well, I’m happy to report that you’d be wrong. I walk great on a leash…just think of all the exploring we’ll do! I handle crates with no problem…so you can do your thing without worrying that I’ll get claustrophobic. And I’m just about housebroken…any day now. All I need is the chance to experience more of the world. If you give me that chance, you’ll make me the happiest pup in the northeast. I promise I’ll return the favor in love, affection, and utter loyalty. What do you think? Could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship?

Story
Today Your Prince Has Come! If you’re dreaming of a one-of-a-kind, happily-ever-after dog, look no further. This pup is as sweet and as special as they come. Prince is a gentle, well-mannered love who gets along great with people of all ages, dogs of all sizes, and cats of all dispositions. At 3 years old, he likes to play when you do, but he’s also perfectly content to snuggle on the sofa. Car rides are sheer joy, but side-by-side couch-potato time works, too. Impressively, Prince genuinely seems to understand, appreciate, and adapt to his surroundings. When he’s home alone, he quietly stays in his pen. In fact, he appears to enjoy having his own space! That said, he absolutely adores meeting children and other humans. His foster parent nicknamed him the “babysitter dog” because when he meets an anxious puppy who acts somewhat aggressively, Prince patiently tolerates the behavior and gradually ingratiates himself until a friendship is borne. He’s also been nose-to-nose with the neighborhood cats—and had them purring in no time. In a nutshell, Prince gives new meaning to happy, healthy, affectionate, and incredibly special. So, if you’re hoping your fairytale will come true, it just did.

Story
adoption donation : $699 weight 10 lbs  Age: 12 weeks as of 7/17       Meet the Brady Bunch puppies! Five boys and five girls, Marcia, Jan, Cindy, Carol, Alice and the boys, Greg, Peter, Bobby, Mike, and Sam (remember, Alice the housekeeper‘s boyfriend?)   The Bradys are darling lab and husky mix puppies. Dad was a full lab and Mom a husky mix, both of the parents were 55 to 60 pounds and we expect these puppies to be around the same although Greg and Bobby are the biggest and fluffiest of the pups.     Cindy Brady is a sweet and friendly girl, her sister Marcia is shy but Cindy is full of personality! She loves to play with her siblings. The puppies are having a grand time in their foster home in Mississippi, running and romping together and snuggling into a great big puppy pile to nap. The puppies have had vaccinations, but will be spayed and neutered when they are older. Wags will pay for the procedure at one of the clinics that we use in the northeast or reimburse adopters what we pay if they choose to use their own vet.    Please note that Wags of Monroe county is a struggling 501(c) 3 where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs. Wags desperately need to raise funds to help the sick and older dogs at the rescue. Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. For more information on adopting one the Bradys or any of our other dogs  please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    August 19, 2024, 7:04 am

Story
Age: 1 year     Weight 40 lbs      Donation: $499          Patsy Cline is an adorable and loving young dog who along with her brothers Johnny Cash and Hank Williams were found in a remote area of rural Mississippi, curled up together in the woods. The local animal control officer called Wags who stepped in to save the siblings.             Patsy is house trained  and lives with cats in her foster home in the northeast. She is very attached to her foster mom, she likes to follow her around and lie her feet. Patsy is shy with new people and needs to build some confidence, we think having another dog in the family would be key, she gets along great with dogs and really thrives when she’s in a pack. Because she can be timid, we think she’s best in a home with older children,       Patsy is a good girl and will make a loving member of the family         For more information please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com  August 19, 2024, 7:04 am
