Story
Hi, I'm Freddy, a four-year-old mixed breed. Sadly, my previous family couldn't take care of me anymore, so I came to Stray Haven. I'm a good boy who's still adjusting to the shelter environment. It can be intimidating for me, especially since I'm a bit shy and tend to keep to myself.Although I may not appear very sociable at the shelter, I'm optimistic that a kind and patient individual will give me a chance to get to know them. Once I establish a bond and feel at ease, I enjoy cuddling and engaging in playful activities. I'm a friendly and mild-mannered young fellow who simply requires some time to acclimate to unfamiliar surroundings and individuals.I'm looking for a loving home where I can feel safe and secure. Ideally, my new family will be able to give me plenty of attention, exercise, and positive reinforcement. With a little patience and understanding, I'll make a loyal and loving companion for someone out there.Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA194 Shepard Rd., Waverly, NY 14892(607) 565-2859, www.strayhavenspca.org Open hours:Tuesday-Friday 10am-5pmSaturday-Sunday 10am-4pmClosed on Mondays

Story
Meet Sean! Sean is a fun-loving dog with a heart of gold! He’s the Prince of Zoomies, when he needs to burn off some energy, but don’t let that fool you—he’s generally calm and enjoys relaxing in a peaceful space. His leash skills are top-notch, and he’s always ready for a stroll. Sean is also a big fan of tennis balls, so get ready for some fetch sessions! This sweet guy thrives in a quiet, low-key environment and would do best in a single-animal home where he can be the center of attention. He’s fantastic with people, always eager to make new friends and shower them with affection. Although Sean has a heart murmur and is heartworm positive, he’s been treated and has recovered and is in good health. Sean is the perfect companion for someone who can offer him a relaxed lifestyle filled with love and care. He’s an excellent listener, always tuned into his person, and ready for a cuddle session after his zoomies. If you're looking for a loyal, playful, and low-maintenance dog to share your home, Sean could be the perfect match!

Story
Hi, I'm Brad. I'm still learning about this big world around me, and yes, it can be a bit scary sometimes. Unexpected noises, sudden movements, they all make me nervous. But don't let that fool you. I can be a bit of a mischief-maker when I feel safe and comfortable. Sneaking out of places I shouldn't, chewing on things that aren't toys, but hey, that's all part of my charm. I'm a sweet, shy boy who's still figuring things out. I’m almost 2 years old now and I'm looking for a family who'll be patient with me, help me build my confidence, and love me for who I am. In return, I promise to be the most loyal and loving dog you could ever ask for. I may be a scaredy cat, but I've got a lot of love to give. Will you be the one to help me find my courage?

Story
Meet Tom! A 4-year-old mixed breed with a happy-go-lucky approach to life and a strong desire for learning. Tom is always eager to please. Whether it’s learning basic commands, walking on leash or having a zoomie outburst, Tom always seems to be happy. He can be a bit rambunctious and loves to play at full speed, but Tom will settle down for some good snuggles and cuddles if you have some to spare. Tom is a bit choosy with his dog friends, so bring your dog when you come to meet him. Because of his high-speed approach to life, older children would make good playmates. Whether it’s playing tag, chasing tennis balls or going for a long walk where he can find new smells Tom does adjust his speed accordingly. If you have a high speed kind of lifestyle and enjoy hiking, playing ball and watching the best zoomies you’ve ever seen, Tom is the dog for you!

Story
Amber came to us as a 10 week old orphan who had been abandoned behind a discount store with her two brothers, who carried the physical Shepherd traits. We quickly realized she had a different personality than any other dog we've had. She was full of energy and vigor, and so loving and affectionate. We bought the book, "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by the monks of New Skete who are renowned for their Shepherd dogs. We did our best to give her leadership, but when my ex and I split up, she became more reactive to thresholds. Over the years, she has become reactive to our five cats, and the tension in the home has become untenable. She isn't living her best life with us, and she deserves it. She will be best suited to be the only pet to a devoted owner, but she has a dog companion, and has previously enjoyed dog parks and adventuring in the woods with friends' dogs. Her ideal home would be in a country setting. She is just a big baby who needs a strong leader and lots of cuddles.

1/15/25: Meet Clay! Clay and his sister, Shay, are gorgeous pups. They are your typical puppies who love to run and romp around. They are learning their house manners and are doing quite well. They are good with other dogs and kids. They are crate trained also. Clay would do best with another young active dog. He would make a great hiking or jogging partner. He is presently being fostered where he has a lot of space to fun and play. Clay and his sister Shay can be found together 99.9% of the time; sleeping, running, whatever the case may be. If you would like to meet Clay, please submit an application. Clay will begin his vaccine series asap. Adoption fee includes: Vet exam, rabies, vaccines, lifetime microchip, deworming, flea treatment and neuter. All current pets MUST be up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason. www.pawzandpurrz.org RR335 Please Note: We are making changes to our Foster to Adopt process. Limited resources to follow up on pending adoptions and delays in processing payments is adding to our financial restrictions. Going forward we will collect payment when the dog is transferred to the potential new owner and will be held for an agreed upon trial time. Exceptions or extended trial times will be considered on a case by case basis and will depend upon the need or situation.
