Name: Peanut Butter Best Guess for Breed: Dachshund and retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of March 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 21 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment. Special adoption considerations: Peanut Butter is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Peanut Butter is Looking For: His forever home. This sweetie ended up in a shelter through no fault of his own - and he's closed that chapter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. A cushy dog bed, quality kibble (yes, some peanut butter too!), lots of snugs - yep, all on his wish list too. But as a wise, experienced dog, he knows what's most important in life: To be safe and loved and under his own roof. He's got so much to offer in exchange - adoring gazes and loyal companionship, definitely, but he also promises to make you smile every day. What do you say? Are you Peanut Butter's soft landing? Is he the one for your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
