Story
Meet Cookie. She is one of the poodles we rescued from the puppy mill back in January. Cookie is 6 years old, and she weighs 12 lbs. She was a mill momma most of her life. When she came to our rescue, she was really shut down and scared. She is still working on trusting humans. She will sit on the fosters lap and let her pet her for a little bit before she jumps off (which is progress). She absolutely loves dogs of all sizes. She went to the vet and was tested for hw and Lymes disease and was negative! She did have an ear infection that was treated with antibiotic ear drops. She also received her updated vaccines. She was spayed and had dental work done to remove all of her infected teeth. Cookies perfect home would have to have another dog that way, she can learn from them that not all humans are bad. We don't know what all happened to this sweet dog. We did everything we can for her and now we hope that there is someone out there for her that has patience and understanding that it will take some time for her to learn to trust her new family. If you are interested in adopting her, please send us a message or fill out an application.

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about within an hour of Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit Meet Blackberry! Blackberry is a 10-year-old, 10 lb mini Poodle mix who was surrendered by his owner. He had been sadly neglected and it was time for a new beginning. Blackberry was brought into our care and immediately received a sedated shave and was neutered. It was discovered that one of his eyes was missing, and the other one was so damaged, it had to be removed. Although Blackberry is deaf as well as blind, he doesn’t miss a trick. This amazing pup can wake from a sound sleep, sniff his way across the room, and jump on the sofa to find his foster mom eating cereal without him! Blackberry is very close to being housebroken. He will wear diapers, but only if he needs to be alone for several hours. He hasn’t had any accidents. Blackberry can’t do stairs, but very quickly learned where the front door is and how to step down out of the house. Blackberry doesn’t require any monthly prescription medications but will take Trazadone on occasion when he needs to be alone for several hours to avoid separation anxiety. Due to being both blind and deaf, he would be happiest to have an owner who is home most of the time. He likes to know his people are near and will cry out if he feels lost. Blackberry gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats. He would do best in an adult-only home or with children that know how to be gentle. Blackberry walks on a leash but tends to criss cross and would be happier with a fenced-in yard. Blackberry is a super sweet pup who enjoys greeting people. He loves to have his belly rubbed, get picked up, and enjoys lots of cuddles. He happily sleeps in bed with his foster mom and is a certified couch potato. If you need an adorable, furry friend to keep you company and make you smile, please apply today!

Story
immy is being fostered in PA. Jimmy is a special little guy, a 14 week old Mini Poodle, who was dealt a bad hand physically but nothing is stopping him from being happy and enjoying life. Jimmy is working on house breaking and coming along. We are starting to learn SIT and COME. He follows his foster Mommy all over and just loves to be with people and other pups to play with and snuggle. We call Jimmy a little goat because he likes to launch himself in the air at you or another pup. Jimmy is sight impaired, one eye did not develop and the other is smaller than normal but he does have enough sight to get around ok. Then there is his wee heart. Jimmy has two abnormalities and is being put on a beta-blocker to slow heart rate. Basically, there is a hole in the heart (VSD) and it is pushing blood through the right side into the lungs. Then, there is the pulmonic valve that is not opening enough to push blood to the lungs. So two abnormalities, but in a way working together: were one is not putting enough blood to lungs the other is putting blood to lungs. The cardiologist put Jimmy’s prognosis as guarded. He needs a re-check in 9 months to see where things stand. Possibly, at that time they can do a balloon procedure to open the valve. Also, there is a chance as he grows the hole could shrink but that is uncertain. As for Jimmy, don’t tell him he has any “issues”. He says, “I’m a puppy and I like to play with other dogs, run around chasing after my foster Mommy, and just have lots of fun. Life, bring it on”. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Laney is a sweet 11 lb mini poodle that turned 1 yr old on April 5th. She craves constant companionship and would do best with someone that can spend a lot of time with her. Either at home or taking her places. She had surgery several months ago for a genetic disorder that prevented her from using her hind legs. She is fully recovered and walking great. She is lower energy and would prefer a calm household. She has done well with the other small dogs in rescue. She is not a fan of big dogs. Older children are preferred due to her previous surgery. Laney is being fostered in Abingdon Md for meetings. Thank you

Story
Meet Bounce, the most lovable poodle boy! This sweet young pup absolutely adores people. He's currently living with a young, active family with three young children, and he gets along fabulously with them. It's hard to find a picture of him without the children because he loves them so much. Bounce would be happiest in an active home that includes their furry friend in outings. He's getting really good at his housebreaking skills and is crate trained, although he's not a big fan of it. He's had a blast with his foster family, but now it's time for Bounce to find his forever home. He's vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative, and he'll come with Trupanion pet insurance.
