Sir Jeffie’s Backstory: Sir Jeffie was taken into an overcrowded animal control facility where they euthanize due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to get him out safely to give him a second chance at life. Breed and Hair Notes: Jeffie has hair and not fur. He appears to be a Poodle and Shih Tzu. Perhaps another breed is represented as well? What do you see? PLEASE NOTE: Jeffie’s hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-8 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Get to Know Jeffie: Age: 1 Weight: 14 pounds Neutered: yes Current Vaccines and Tests: Rabies vaccine: yes Distemper vaccine: yes Bordetella vaccine: yes Flea and tick prevention: yes Heartworm test: yes, negative De-wormer treatment: yes Additional Care: Grooming: Jeffie was just de-matted and groomed. He was very sweet and patient about being groomed. He is very much in need of attention, and he was grateful to be getting a lot of it. Potty routine: Jeffie goes potty on pads in the sanctuary as well as goes outside during playtime. To get him settled into a routine based on your schedule and direction for where to go potty, you’ll need to keep him in a designated place with potty pads initially. Personality: Jeffie is very much in need of a person. When he is with our volunteers, he is more interested in them than the other dogs. He asks to get picked up so he can give and receive hugs. Jeffie is young, but he has a gentleness about him that is endearing. He is one of the quieter fosters in our sanctuary at present, and he seems to hang out with the older dogs in the group. He can certainly play with the more exuberant and youthful here, but he is finished playing when the others still continue. He starts to look for the humans again so he can get another hug. Jeffie’s most endearing quality is that he loves to dance. Any chance he gets, he will dance and walk about on his back legs! What Jeffie needs in his lifetime family. Is it you? Routine and Training Jeffie’s youth makes him in ideal student for positive reinforcement training classes. He is very sensitive and eager to please. Jeffie could be okay as an only dog in a home, provided he could meet dog friends nearby often. do see Jeffie enjoy the company of other dogs and sleeps in the same bed with other fosters here in our sanctuary. If you need to be gone for a few hours every day, having other dogs to cuddle with would be very good for him. Jeffie loves to run about in the sanctuary’s back garden, and we can see him loving walks. His youth is in want of exercise. Jeffie will be best in a home where there are older, respectful children and experienced adults, ready to guide a young dog into adulthood. Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. Our little puppy mill survivor Mark looks and feels like a whole new man! This 5 year old mini poodle had a whirlwind 2 days: shave down, neuter, dental, bloodwork, the “works”! He’s timid but sweet, already dancing around wagging his stumpy tail for attention and makes good eye contact, alert and curious about this new world outside of a cage. He loves and follows other dogs and will need a home with another compatible doggie buddy to help him adjust. Everything is new to him and he will likely need some patience with housebreaking (and yes, may “mark” and need a belly band to start), and adjusting to a real home for the first time. He’s under 15lbs and has sought after Merle marking which is probably why he was kept for breeding instead of sold as a puppy, and now he needs to make up for lost time and discover what he’s missed out on all these years. And we have our third dog this month brought to us wearing their Christmas sweater 😞 This guy’s owner sadly passed away so they had a legitimate reason at least. Buddy is a sweet 10-12 year old poodle mix, maybe Schnoodle or cockapoo? He’s a sweet confused sad soul who doesn’t understand how his whole life turned upside down overnight. A gentle guy who has gotten along with other small gentle dogs and lived with cats. He hasn’t been to a vet in many years, his teeth are painfully rotted and he screamed when the vet tried to examine them, and he’s a bit chunky at 23lbs when he should be more like 15. But otherwise seems to have been loved and I’m pretty good shape for an older guy. He went right to our vet for a full work up and emergency dental 🚨 🦷 to get him more comfortable and we expect him to not have many teeth left afterward. In the past week we have taken in a whopping 8 dogs in need of dentals among other procedures, so our vet bills are already adding up 😳 Buddy would love a nice quiet home where someone will be with him more often than not, as he was accustomed to previously. Meet Shaggy - an affectionate, friendly, gentle, and playful senior dog! This happy boy is a snuggle bug who enjoys spending his days lounging around, going on nice walks, playing with his favourite toys, and eating frozen food-stuffed Kongs. Despite his cataracts, Shaggy gets around just fine and can jump on couches and beds with minor assistance. He is crate-trained but prefers to spend his time with his people or his foster dog siblings. He even gets along with cats! Shaggy is housebroken, uses a pee pad, and is crate-trained. He already knows basic commands like "sit" and "shake" and can be left free in the house as he doesn't destroy things. He is also very food-motivated and always comes running when he hears the sound of a treat! At 11 years old, Shaggy is an easy-going and low-maintenance senior dog who is just looking for a loving home where he can spend his golden years. He has so much love and affection to give and will provide endless snuggles and companionship. Update: Our vet has determined Shaggy has food allergies and is doing great on a prescription diet which has been helping with his skin and fur allergies/sensitivity. He is itching much less. Shaggy also was seen by an eye specialist and it was determined that, although he would be able to undergo anesthesia, he has an additional eye issue that would keep him from having successful cataract procedure. *Please note we currently have two dogs with similar names.
