Story
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.

Story
I've been sponsored by the Petfinder Kia Grant to help reduce adoption fees. Thanks to the wonderful Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee is only $25.00! Hi, I'm Rockee! I'm young and full of energy. I love to play and explore. Sometimes, I can be a little shy, but once I get to know you, I'm as sweet as can be. I'm always ready for a game of fetch or a fun adventure. I came here with my buddy Gypsie, and we've been having a blast. But I'm ready for a new chapter. I'm looking for a family who loves to play as much as I do, and who can give me lots of love and cuddles. I promise to bring joy and laughter into your life. Adopt me, and let's start our journey together! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2036319##

Story
Say hello to Jorah! We guess him to be a Mountain Cur or Plott Hound mix that is nearly 4 years old, and he is another one of our Forget-Me-Nots. He was abandoned on farmland with his sister, so when the farmer was able to catch them both, they were brought in to us. Both were in pretty rough shape, but with proper care their coats filled in nicely. They were both chosen to attend Puppies for Parole, however on Jorah's 3rd day in the program, he was cornered by one of the correction center's staff members. He was defensive and scared, but unfortunately made contact. So he was rejected from the program. His sister was adopted, and Jorah has been with us ever since. This poor guy suffers from a lot of anxiety. He's slow to trust people- likely from a lack of socialization as a puppy. However, he does like the company of other dogs! He seems more secure when he isn't the only one. In his time with us, Jorah has actually gotten really close with another longtimer- Ray. They go out in play group together and do really well! Jorah was adopted once, but returned in less than a week. They said he was too clingy- that he wouldn't stay in a crate when they left- when that didn't work, they put him in a kennel outside- which he hated even worse. We think that if he had another dog around, he'd feel safer. He really is a sweet guy, and loves attention and affection. He just needs the opportunity to bond. If you are interested in adopting Jorah, please stop for a visit! Primary Color: Brindle Secondary Color: Black Weight: 59 Age: 5yrs 4mths 3wks

Please fill out an adoption application found at haydudeequine.org Cameo - You are the bridge between what was and what will be, my pathway to a new life! Cameo, a beautiful name for a beautiful gal like me. I have the sweet natured attitude that will make me a great family addition. At 2 years old, I'm also at a great age where as I'm still playful but way past that destructive puppy stage. That sure makes for a nice combo for my new family. Oh and another nice thing...I'm already house trained too!! I have an amazing tiger striped pattern in my coat and show stopping amber colored eyes which make for a stunning combo!! My hairytage of the Mountain Cur and the Plott hound makes for the beautiful swirling stripe pattern of my coat, a genetic characteristic. My personality is sweet, sweet, sweet and I am very human oriented. I love giving and getting kisses and spending time with my people. Also, for a medium sized dog of 55ish lbs, I am a great snuggler!! I will wrap myself around my Foster Mum and delight in the attention!! I will stay there snuggling for as long as she has time! I walk well on leash and know how to sit and stay. I have great focus and pay attention really well. I am a people pleaser and will try to do whatever it takes to make you happy!! I get on well with most all other doggies and enjoy romping in the yard getting a good game of keep away or tag you're it going but I LOVE hoomans and haven't met a stranger yet, I'm pretty sure everyone is here just to give me lots of lovins!! :) I'm a great size to make you a pawsome action adventure type companion, whether it's going for neighborhood strolls, camping trips or hikes in the wilderness, I'm willing and ready! And then after our fun, I love my beloved snuggles by the fireplace (on the couch is fine too). I'm up for trying it all with...YOU!! If you are looking for a "dog of a different color", then look no further!! I for sure want to be your gal!!

Story
Meet Jaeger, an almost 4-year-old Mountain Cur mix who is eagerly searching for a loving and understanding forever home. Jaeger's life began as an outside dog, that was surrendered to us with his brother Butterball due to no fault of their own. Their previous family had to move and felt that they wouldn't be happy in their new home. Jaeger has been waiting for a long time in search of his forever family, as he originally came to our shelter in summer of 2020. It's been hard for him here at the shelter, as he's generally pretty distrusting of strangers at first. He's independent by nature, and wasn't socialized very well as a puppy. It does take a little work to win him over, but once you do, he will certainly be your buddy for life! Jaeger's stoic nature may come across as self-reliant, but it should not be mistaken for a lack of loyalty. Once he establishes a connection with his human, he will go above and beyond to show his unwavering devotion. Jaeger will be your steadfast companion through thick and thin, offering you a hard-earned, loving presence every step of the way. In his time with us, Jaeger has graduated the Puppies for Parole program through our partnering correctional center. From his handler we learned Jaeger is very intelligent, easily trained, and highly food motivated. Through his opportunity with P4P, he has been house trained, crate trained, taught basic obedience, and started on home manners! We also learned from his handler that when it comes to favorite pastimes, cuddle sessions take the top spot for Jaeger. He is a true cuddle bug and finds comfort and joy in sharing intimate moments with his loved ones. Providing him with a cozy bed where he can snuggle up with you will undoubtedly be one of his greatest pleasures. So he has certainly come a long way from being someone's forgotten farm dog! Here at the shelter, Jaeger does go out in a playgroup with other dogs, but it should be noted that he is a dominant dog, and takes it upon himself to 'police' his playmates. But if you are looking for a loyal and cuddly companion who will be your steadfast buddy, Jaeger is the perfect match. By providing him with a loving home, you will witness the transformation of a wary dog into a devoted and affectionate family member. Adopt Jaeger today and experience the joy of welcoming this misunderstood guy into your life. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 60.2 Age: 4yrs 9mths 3wks
