Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Anton is a sweet but shy male cat who is estimated to be around 8 years old. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him: How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Anton is a shy, older cat who had a very difficult life on the streets before coming to live with us.  While he is still somewhat apprehensive around people, he has really come out of his shell over the past month and is starting to approach us for attention and pets.  He has a very sweet personality and never shows any signs of aggression or hostility.  He is also very flexible and can live with other cats or even a dog (he lives with both now), but is independent enough that he would probably be fine as a solo cat. Does the cat enjoy being pet?  While he was initially resistant and would pull his head back, he now genuinely enjoys pets and no longer finds them to be distressing. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?  His favorite spot is the top of his head.  He used to pull away if we tried to pet him but not anymore! Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?  He gets a little funny if you pet him around his ears, and we have never tried petting his abdomen but I wouldn’t recommend it. Does the cat come on your lap?  Not yet, but I believe with time and patience he would progress to this.  Does the cat like to be held?  Not yet.  He is starting to seek us to be petted but we have been careful not to push the envelope trying to pick him up. Does the cat sleep in your bed?  No, we opened the door to his foster room at night for the first time this week but like most fosters, he chooses to stay in his “safe space” at night for the time being. Does the cat seek your attention?  Yes!  Despite living his life on the streets he is starting to appreciate human interaction.  This took a couple of months to build trust, but he will sometimes approach us seeking pets, especially around meal time. Does the cat like to play?  Not particularly, he seems much more food driven than play driven.  What are the cat's favorite games and toys?  Nothing at the moment, but he loves a warm heating pad in his room! How vocal is the cat?  When we first got him, he would meow at night from inside his foster room, but this stopped after a few days.  Now he occasionally meows when he is excited, especially close to meal time, but this took a couple of months to build up to. What kinds of sounds does the cat make?  He’s got a cute, high pitched meow! Does the cat scratch a scratcher?  Not that we have seen, but they are readily available to him in his foster room. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes.  He had one or two urine accidents the first few days we had him but this resolved by the middle of the first week. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  Anton had very poor dentition when we first started fostering him, requiring a full dental extraction.  For this reason, he is on a wet food only diet (one can twice daily), as chewing dry food may cause him discomfort.  Is the cat picky about food?  His favorite food is Fancy Feast, and shreds are his favorite texture.  He prefers seafood over poultry or beef. What is the cat's favorite treat?  He likes Churu treats, but it depends on his mood and how hungry he is. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  No, Anton has never swatted at us. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?  No, he has never scratched us. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  No, Anton has never nipped us. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?  No, he has never bitten us. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  We have not yet had the chance to introduce Anton to new people, but my guess is that he would probably choose to withdraw, at least for now.  He might hide himself in a cat hut or under a cat tower.  He did this with us when we first started fostering him, but this has improved a lot as he has learned to trust us. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  Anton has beautiful golden eyes, and is actually slightly crossed eyed which is adorable.  He loves to be warm, and is favorite locations are next to the heating vent or on top of the heating pad we keep on the cot in his foster room. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  When we first started fostering Anton, the biggest concerns were his physical health after living on the streets.  He was extremely underweight, his teeth were rotting, he had marks/scars on his nose from encounters with wild animals, and he had never been to a vet before.  Under our care, he is now at a healthy weight, no longer experiences dental pain when eating, and is up to date on his health maintenance and vaccines.  He is a sweet but shy gentleman looking for a warm, safe atmosphere to live out his golden years.    What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  His current challenges are thankfully no longer physical, but he is still a shy cat after fending for himself on the streets for so many years.  Whoever adopts him will need to understand that he will initially be shy and not seek out attention, but this will improve with time and patience as it has with us.  It may take several months before Anton has a strong connection with his adopter, but given what he has been through before this year it will be worth the time and patience! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Rumble is a sweet 3 year old neutered boy. Here is what his Foster Volunteer has to say about him! How would you describe the cat's general personality? - Rumble is a sweet and curious cat who loves being around people and almost never wants to be alone. He’ll happily let you pet him, snuggle up beside you, and explore every corner of your home. Does the cat enjoy being pet? - Yes! Rumble will let you pet him as much as you want, once he's comfortable with you (won't take long). If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? - He seems to like being pet on his head. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? - He doesn't like it as much when you touch his paws or his stomach when he's laying on the ground. But he's never been violent and will still let you touch him there. He will just walk away from you if he doesn't like it. Does the cat come on your lap? - Rumble almost always does. If you're sitting, he will sit on your lap or the chair next to you. If you're on your bed, he'll want to lay next to you. He loves sitting on your leg, in between your legs, on your stomach, etc. Does the cat like to be held? - He doesn't like being held for that long. If you're sitting, you could hold him in your arms for longer. Does the cat sleep in your bed? - Occasionally. Rumble sleeps right next to you but will groom himself several times during the night. Because I wake up to that, I prefer having him sleep in the living room. Does the cat seek your attention? - Rumble loves attention and just being next to people. He sits next to me when I'm sitting on the couch, on the counter when I'm cooking in the kitchen, etc. If your door is closed and he knows you're in there, you might find him sitting in front of it.   Does the cat like to play? - Rumble likes to play with things that he can catch, scratch, and/or chew. You have to be pretty active with the toy as well to keep him engaged. He also likes the laser pointer. He also plays with toys by himself. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? - Rumble likes fishing pole toys, little balls, the toy with balls that roll around in a spiral   How vocal is the cat? - Rumble: cries if you won't open the door to your room (often in the morning) but only does this for a minute or two (not very loud) - Vader: comes to you and starts meowing at random points of the day for a couple of minutes - could either mean he's hungry or wants a treat or wants attention(?) (he is a bit louder than Rumble) What kinds of sounds does the cat make? - Meowing noises   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? - Yes. I have a pole-shaped scratcher and a cardboard one that's shaped like a mat. He uses the pole every day -- sometimes to stretch after sitting or laying for a while. The mat one was used for a day or two, and then I think he got bored of it. He really likes scratching and climbing at the same time If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? - Yes. He shares one with another cat. I've never had any issues with him using litter boxes. If no, please explain.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? - He gets around 1/3 cup of dry food (Purina One Tender Selects) three to four times a day. Is the cat picky about food? - Not really. He likes the gravy of wet chunky foods and will eat some of that but he didn't like pate. What is the cat's favorite treat? - He loves Churu! He doesn't really like solid treats.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? - No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? - No. I've only been scratched when we were playing with a toy he was trying to catch. But this was an accident because I dropped the toy as he tried to grab it. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? - No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? - No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? - Rumble is very social so he will go up to new people. It takes him maybe 10 minutes to warm up to a new person.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? - Rumble is soooo curious. He will want to sniff and feel different textures. You can give him all the love and he will reciprocate it. Rumble has these golden yellow eyes and the cutest voice.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? - Rumble is such a gentle cat. I've never had a cat let me pet them this much without hissing or running away. He will give you so much love. If you want a cat you can give and receive a lot of love, Rumble is the one for you!!   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? - Rumble is very curious and likes to climb things. Sometimes I worry about him getting close to the stove or oven when I'm cooking but he seems to know he has to stay away when it's hot. He's a big scratcher so he has scratched my couch quite a bit. I think having other scratching poles in the house helps with that. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Vader is a sweet 4 year old neutered boy. Here is what his Foster Volunteer has to say about him: How would you describe the cat's general personality? - Vader enjoys his independence but still has a soft spot for attention. He can be playful at times when he’s in the mood. While he may not be the cuddliest, he’ll come to you when he’s ready for affection! Does the cat enjoy being pet? - Not always, but sometimes when I'm sitting on the couch, he'll come next to me and rub his head on my lap. I think this means that he wants to be pet, because when I stop petting him, he purrs and rubs his head on me again. If he doesn't like being pet, he'll just walk away. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? - He seems to prefer being pet on his head and under his chin. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? - He doesn't like being patted on his butt. But he's never been violent — he'll still let you touch him but most likely walk away if he doesn't like it. Does the cat come on your lap? - Vader occasionally does, especially if I'm sitting on the couch. He prefers sitting next to you but wil put his paws on my lap. Does the cat like to be held? - He doesn't seem to like being held. I can hold him for maybe 30 seconds before he starts squirming. Does the cat sleep in your bed? - Occasionally. Vader sleeps at the foot of the bed and not right next to me. But he sleeps in the living room on most nights. Does the cat seek your attention? - Vader seems to like being alone for most of the day but will sometimes come to you and start purring. Because he's not always seeking attention, when he does, I can tell he's either hungry or wants to play.   Does the cat like to play? - Vader likes strings and things he can catch and chew. I found out that if you throw little treats, he'll run to it and play with it a bit before eating it. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? - Things he can chew and eat, toys on strings/fishing poles. It's important to be very engaging with the fishing pole toys when you play with him.   How vocal is the cat? - He meows when he's hungry and there's no food. This usually happens in the morning. But he doesn't cry for too long. Because he's usually outside my room in the morning, I don't find him that loud either. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? - Meowing, crying noises, purring   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? - Yes. I have a pole-shaped scratcher and a cardboard one that's shaped like a mat. He uses the pole every day -- sometimes to stretch after sitting or laying for a while. He loves it. I think he really likes being able to climb and scratch at the same time. He doesn't scratch other things in the house. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? - Yes. He shares his litter box with another cat. I have never had problems with him using litter boxes. If no, please explain.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? - He gets around 1/3 cup of dry food (Purina One Tender Selects) three to four times a day. He's a big cat, and when there's unlimited food around, he will keep eating. I try to keep the amount of food and frequency of food constant for him. Is the cat picky about food? - Not really but he prefers dry food over wet food. What is the cat's favorite treat? - He loves Churu. He also eats solid treats as well.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? - Rarely. Vader likes to roll around on the floor, and sometimes, I try to get dust off of his fur using my hands or a brush. He swatted at me when I tried to do that. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? - No. But if you start touching him when he doesn't want you to, he stretches his paws out and shows his claws. He doesn't scratch. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? - No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? - No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? - He's a bit cautious but depending on his mood, he'll go up to and rub his head on new people. He's mostly unbothered.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? - Vader is more of a cool cat. He knows how to push and pull. It may take a little longer to earn his trust, but it'll be so worth it when he chooses to sit on your lap for the first time. He's very cute when you play with him, especially with the fishing pole toys. His fur is sooo fluffy but he takes good care of himself, and I only brush him once a week.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? - Vader may be more of an introverted cat, but overall he's very gentle. He would be great for anyone looking for a pretty chill cat that doesn't need attention all the time, but is able to engage with people through toys, treats, and occasional cuddles!   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? - Honestly, he's really not been a challenge. When he needed to take antibiotics after his neuter surgery (he's all fine now!), it was hard to hold him and give him the medication. I guess the biggest challenge is that he's pretty big and strong. He never tried to bite me when I held him down, but he was just very strong and able to get out of my grip easily. I managed to work quickly and give him his medication though.v though.  To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 16, 2025, 5:21 pm
