Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Update 2/15/25 Petey is currently enrolled in the Paws in Prison program. He started there on 2/10 and will be there for 8 weeks. During that time he will be with an inmate trainer who will work on the basics with him (basic obedience, leash walking, house training, etc.). They meet weekly with a dog trainer. When Petey graduates, he will have his Canine Good Citizen Certificate. We hope he has a home waiting for him when he graduates in April. 1/29/25 Meet Petey! This lovable boy will melt your heart with his sweet soul and affectionate nature. At just 6-8 months old, Petey is a playful and active pup who enjoys plenty of fun before settling down for cozy snuggles. He's making great progress with basic manners like not jumping, sitting, and walking nicely on a leash. Petey is kennel-trained, fully house-trained, and always ready to please. We do not know his breed. This website makes us pick a breed.  When his pictures were put in an app, it said Mountain Cur/Pointer mix. He is likely a mix of several breeds. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and adores everyone he meets. Petey is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and heartworm negative—ready to bring joy and love to his forever home!Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Story
Rocky has been a long stay in boarding while we got this little chowder head to focus. Apparently his live had started with best guess, young boys, because his exuberance was over the top. We have finally gotten him under control. Other dogs still correct him at times because he just can't get that meet & greet scenario down pat, again exuberance. He is a very loving dog and would love the opportunity to live with someone who loves the outdoors and hiking. Sorry no apartments for this boy.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ***COURTESY LISTING*** Lucy is a 7month old Hound/Pointer mix that is approximately 40 lbs. We don't expect her to be more than 60lbs full grown. She is playful, loves going for walks, loving and affectionate. She does tolerate cats, but would be best to not live with any. She does well with other dogs. She loves people, however needs a home with no children or with children that are 10 or older as she has so much energy and is too much for young children. When meeting new people she does get very excited and can get jumpy. Would do best with an active family and one that has a fenced yard. Located in Mechanicsburg PA. Lucy is up to date on her vaccines and preventatives and is scheduled to be spayed in May 2025. If interested in adopting fill out an application on our website. https://homewardbound2u.rescuegroups.org If you have an approved application with the rescue please email her current family at stephrohrbaugh@gmail.com Please let her know a little about your family, day to day activities and when you would like to schedule to meet Lucy. "Homeward Bound Animal Rescue are licensed and inspected by PA Dept. of Dog Law.  Our license numbers are 4914, 16902 and 16903"Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 7, 2025, 10:51 am

Story
Toby is a smart, sweet, and absolutely handsome guy who’s sure to steal your heart. He’s not just a looker—he’s got the personality to match. Toby has a knack for making doggie friends, though he takes a bit of time to warm up to new people. He’s a huge fan of playtime, especially when it involves a game of fetch or romping around with his canine buddies. This attentive boy is a quick learner who knows basic commands and listens intently, making you feel like he truly understands every word you say. He walks beautifully on a leash and is eager to please, making him a joy to take on strolls. Just say the word “walk,” and watch his adorable head tilt in excitement! Toby’s playful side shines through when he watches other dogs on TV—yes, he’s a fan of doggy entertainment! He’s also learning to enjoy car rides and has been making progress every day. While he may need some reassurance in certain situations, like hearing gunshots in the distance or encountering new people, he quickly relaxes with a little love and guidance. He’s a lovable, ball-chasing companion who thrives on attention and affection. If you’re looking for a smart, attentive, and playful pup to add to your family, Toby might just be the perfect match. Come meet Toby—he can’t wait to find his forever home! www.mostlymuttz.org https://facebook.com/mostlymuttz PA Kennel License: 10872 PO Box 406 Gilbertsville, PA 19525 ##909183##

Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner passed away. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
