Story
07/24/24 23:46Dog Day Out notes from last week:Today I: got to go for a drive and a sniffy walk! I was excited to get going and hopped in and out of the car all on my own. I’m a very good girl in the car, sitting calmly in the back, and I like putting my head out the window. I love to sniff and take my time making sure I don’t miss any smells. I’m a friendly girl and I want to say hi to all the people and other dogs on the trail. Then we went to Pet Smart where there were so many new and exciting smells. Finally, I got a pup cup, I wasn’t sure about it at first but decided it wasn’t too bad in the end.Three Words to Describe Me are: sweet, polite, friendly Notes from My Walker: Maya is a sweet and wiggly girl. She is happy to meet you and go out. She hops in the car on her own and is very well behaved in the car. She sits politely in the back and likes to put her head out the window. She is a sniffy girl and likes to take time to smell all the smells. She is a strong girl and can pull a little but overall is pretty good on the leash – it helps that she stops/slows often to sniff. She is very friendly and is interested in people walking by and really wants to say hi to other dogs walking by. No barking or lunging just pulls to greet them. Didn’t seem particularly interested in the critters we saw such as geese and squirrels. Knows sit but not treat motivated, refused all treats I offered. Even the pup cup took some coaxing before she decided to give it a go (and ultimately decided she liked it). Likes pet and leans in for ear scratches.

Story
Looks like: Rottweiler, Great Dane mix Male, 7 years old (estimated), 83 pounds This big dude with his big personality, big smile, and big heart, is the biggest lovebug around. He is dreaming of lovely humans that will snuggle with him all the time, hold his big paws, and tell him that everything is going to be alright from here on out. Gannon was found as a stray, emaciated and weak, and is now slowly building up his weight and muscle-tone. Currently, his stamina is a bit low, but at his foster home, he loves going on leisurely walks and yard saunterings, and he is starting to regain some strength. He begrudgingly accepts the fact that he is not a small lapdog, and politely lays down very close next to you on the couch. When given permission, Mr. Affection will gingerly put his legs on you and smush his head into your torso. Although he prefers the company of people, he also gets along well with dogs of all sizes and is very gentle with small dogs. We have not yet observed his behavior around cats or children, but assume that he will be friendly and tender around anyone. Gannon is perfectly house trained and he hardly ever barks; when he does it's just one "woof". When left home alone, he may initially whine and feel a bit anxious, but quickly calms down and settles in for a nap. On car rides, he is super mellow, chilling out on the back seat. This big snuggle buddy would love to find a home where he can spend lots of time with his humans and show everyone just how loving, sweet, trusting, and silly he is! Sweet Gannon joined us from Stanislaus Animal Services after being picked up as a stray. Want to see more of Gannon? His foster mom created his very own website!! Story
Bandit is the perfect combination of sweet and shy that makes your heart melt. While his pictures make him look big, he is actually a pocket sized rottweiler mix at about 55 pounds. He loves his trusted humans unconditionally and wants to shadow you whenever he can. Bandit is guaranteed to add lots of love, kisses and cuddles to your life. Where there is warmth you will find Bandit; warmth from the sun, from a heater, from a fur friend or from a human. He sometimes thinks he’s a lap dog and will plop himself on your lap for a nap, taking comfort in being with his human. He loves to play with his foster sister and sometimes looks quite goofy, which just adds to his charming personality. He is crate-trained, fully house-trained and walks well on a leash. He is highly treat motivate and is learning in foster care to do things like sit, lay down, stay, be a gentleman, and wait. Bandit has lived with small dogs, dogs his size, adult men, and adult women and has done well with all. He does take a moment to warm up to new people, sounds, and places but generally his reaction to these new scary things is to cower a little. Once he has warmed up, he loves to give his new friends kisses and cuddles. Bandit is always happy to see his humans when they come home and gives you all smiles. It is truly heartwarming to be part of his journey and to see his growth as a fearful dog. Bandit has been failed multiple times and was almost euthanized at Stanislaus Animal Services due to overcrowding and because everyone would pass right by this scared boy shaking in his kennel. Bandit deserves his forever family. If that might be you, be sure to fill out an adoption application: https://betterworldrescue.org/adoption-application/ Upon receipt of your application, one of our passionate volunteers will call you within one business day to answer any questions and schedule a meet.
