Meet Allegra!-1 year old spayed female Rottweiler -Allegra was brought to the Shelter after her previous guardian lost housing and was unable to continue caring for her-Previously lived primarily outdoors, without much in the way of pampering-May need a bit of patience to acclimate to indoor living, but she will LOVE being closer to her people and family!-Would thrive with a dog savvy adopter that will provide play, regular walks and outings, and plenty of positive reinforcement and relationship-based training-Very playful with staff at the Shelter, loves a good squeaky toy and is good at entertaining herself, too-She can be a bit rambunctious, so dog-comfortable, hardy kids and/or teens, or no kids might be best fit-May do well with another dog in the home-Should not live in a home with small animals or catsPlease note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Bandit is a sweet senior who wants nothing more than your love. He is the perfect combination of sweet and shy that makes your heart melt. While his pictures make him look big, he is actually a pocket sized rottweiler mix at about 55 pounds. He loves his trusted humans unconditionally and wants to shadow you whenever he can. Bandit is guaranteed to add lots of love, kisses and cuddles to your life. Where there is warmth you will find Bandit; warmth from the sun, from a heater, from a fur friend or from a human. He sometimes thinks he’s a lap dog and will plop himself on your lap for a nap, taking comfort in being with his human. He is crate-trained, fully house-trained and walks well on a leash. He is highly treat motivated and is learning in foster care to do things like sit, lay down, stay, be a gentleman, and wait. Bandit has lived with small dogs, dogs his size, adult men, and adult women and has done well with all. He does take a moment to warm up to new people, sounds, and places. Bandit has a few health issues going on that sometimes impact his behavior. He has hip dysplasia, hyperthyroidism, arthritis, and early stage kidney disease. While 99% of the time Bandit is an absolute sweetheart, if any of his medication is off, if he overdoes his physical exercise, or if he is feeling anxious he may growl or snap. Because of this, Bandit should only be adopted by an experienced dog handler. Bandit is currently on thyro-tabs, joint supplements, and anti-anxiety medication. The cost of all of his medication is less than $100 per month. Bandit deserves his forever family. This is Rocket - he’s a people pleaser who love companionship and attention. He’ll follow us around the house and lay at our feet when we’re home. He’s been through training as a puppy though he needs continual practice and learning. He is a lover who has a silly smiley face. He is very loyal and eager to please. He has a lot of energy and doesn’t know his own size / strength. He thinks he is the size of a lap dog and will love to cuddle up with you. He’s not great with all other dogs or people. Proper introduction is needed as he is very protective of his family / home (he can bite them as he is a protector). He may take time to adjust but is a lover once done so. When on walks, he sometimes bites us while out of excitement / overwhelmed when he sees other dogs / people on the street. We have other male dogs in the house and it is obvious that he is trying to claim dominance. He is a great dog but is in need of an owner that can give him time, training, love and patience.

Rex is our very special sweetheart. In the home, he is an absolute cuddle bug who can be slow to warm up with new people. Once you earn his trust, he is the most loyal little man ever. Rex loves to play tug-of-war and despite being a tripod, he has the stamina to run for a while! He is a bit of an anxious fellow and would do best as an only dog in the house--he has been bit by a large breed dog before and is reactive with most of them.
