Story
Meet Max Mailman! Little Max's mom fell asleep in her recliner and sadly never woke up. Friends of ours from the San Diego House Rabbit Society were called to her house, because her rabbits were micro-chipped to their organization. They retrieved the rabbits and offered to help place her beloved dog, Max, too. They called us, and Max became a Frosted Face on November 9, 2022. He is 14 years old and weighs 20 lbs. We've had a bunch of Frosted Faces named "Max", so he got the fun nickname Max Mailman because he is so friendly, and his ears are in the wind as he "rushes from house to house," more like person to person seeking pets in the yard! Like many seniors, Max is vision impaired, but he at least sees shadows. It doesn't slow him down either! Max Mailman loves going on our weekly FFF hikes, and he glides along the trails gracefully with his long legs. He acts younger than his years! Max is a super sweet, fun-sized guy who has lived with bunnies, dogs, cats, and horses! He has been living in a Foster home since December while he waits for his forever family. His Foster Mom shares: "Max is the perfect companion! He just wants to be close to his person. He enjoys laying on the couch with me, but he also sleeps in his dog bed. Max is very friendly with people and is always wagging his tail. He does so well in a home! Max seems to like all food and likes to be left alone while eating. He loves to run when he is outside to go potty. While he does sometimes have accidents inside, it's manageable by taking him outside frequently and using diapers. Max doesn't like my cats, because due to his poor vision, he can't always see when they're nearby. He will try to chase them if he sees one, but he's too slow for them though! Max is a great guy, very quiet and always ready to give kisses & tail wags. He just wants someone to love. He follows me around the house all the time. He loves hanging out in the kitchen. He enjoys napping most of the day and sleeps well through the night." Max Mailman has a great foster home, but he is still looking for his forever home. Might it be with YOU?

Story
Meet Dannon! Dannon entered the Humane Society of Imperial County as a stray. When he wasn't claimed, we scooped him up on February 6th to become a Frosted Face. Dannon is about 10 years old, weighs 11 lbs., and is very sweet. Soon after Dannon arrived, he had surgery to repair a double hernia and was neutered at the same time. Fortunately, he recovered from surgery while on a two-week Frosted Fling, receiving lots of TLC in the comfort of a home. His Fling Mom reports: "Dannon is a very fun little companion. He loves everything about life! Dannon has no medical issues and eats whatever is given with pleasure. Although toothless, he loves kibble with toppings and kibble for snacks. His hearing and sight are fantastic, and he can leap up onto my rather tall bed, too. Dannon likes sleeping with me near the foot of the bed and doesn't make any noises once he chose his spot. He loves car rides, long walks, and playing with soft toys. He grabs a stuffie when he sees you and wiggles up to show you his baby. He plays fetch, too! Dannon prefers to be in the same room as his human and does softly whine when I have to leave him alone, but he isn't destructive. When I return, he is happily waiting for me. Dannon gets along with the several regular dogs at my dog park, but he prefers to grab a stuffie from the toy basket and hang out with the humans under the gazebo. Dannon is a lively and sweet little boy and would be a good addition for any family!" If Dannon sounds like the best buddy you've been looking for, please email: placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org to meet him!

Story
Meet Dublin Duricell! Dublin came to us from San Diego Humane Society- El Cajon on February 18th, the day after having surgery to remove a small mass on his muzzle and another mass near the base of his tail. We are happy Dublin is now a Frosted Face, so we can help him recover and get ready for his new life! Dublin went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn more about him in a home setting while he received lots of well-deserved TLC. His Fling Family shared: "Dublin made the most of every moment of his two-week Frosted Fling! When we picked him up from FFF, Dublin was unsure, barking and growling at times. But with patience and routine, he’s come such a long way. No accidents in the house, no more barking or growling—just a happy, affectionate pup who’s embracing his new rhythm. Dublin loves adventures and new experiences! We took him out for a day in Coronado, and he showed off his sassy, funny personality while meeting new people and dogs. He’s a social butterfly—every new person and dog he meets is a new friend, and he just wants to be part of it all. On leash, Dublin is an easy walker, happily trotting along and taking in the sights. We went on a long hike, and while he covered almost 2 miles himself, he also got to ride in a stroller when he needed a break—enjoying the fresh air like a little king. He was curious but calm around wildlife—completely unfazed by birds or other distractions. When out to lunch, Dublin was the perfect dining companion, curling up under the table for a nap and remaining completely unbothered by passing people, dogs, or kids. Dublin proved to be an adaptable, easygoing pup who loves being out and about but is just as content to relax. We couldn’t have asked for a better little adventure buddy! Dublin is waiting for his forever home, ready to show you what life is all about. Love and living life. Take it as it comes, and go with the flow." Dublin is currently living in a Foster home while he waits for his forever family. Might that be you? To meet this special boy, please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org

Meet Xochi! Xochi (pronounced So-chee) entered Chula Vista Animal Care Facility as a severely matted stray in early February. For his comfort and to prevent skin infections, they groomed Xochi under sedation. He also had a dental during his time at the shelter, and several teeth removed. When we scooped him up on February 24th to become a Frosted Face, Xochi was feeling like a new man! He is estimated to be 9 years old, weighs 14 lbs., and is very sweet. Xochi just left on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we can learn more about him in a home environment. Check back soon for an update!

Story
Meet Millie! Millie was entrusted to our care through the Final Wish Program after her elderly mom passed away. They were devoted companions from the time Millie was a puppy. She is 12 years old, weighs 15 lbs., and is as sweet as can be. Understandably, this is a lot of change and loss for a little girl, and we are doing everything possible to make Millie feel safe and loved. A volunteer took her on an outing to spend one-on-one time with her. Afterwards, she shared: "Millie is great on leash and so easy to walk. She didn’t care at all when we passed other dogs. Millie is great about being picked up and held. She was also a fantastic car buddy. She laid down when we started moving and was ready for any adventure!" We also have learned Millie is well-behaved at restaurants and coffee shops, enjoys being around older children, and loves to cuddle! A few days after becoming a Frosted Face, Millie was chosen to go on a two-week Frosted Fling. We are so glad she is getting lots of love and attention in the comfort of a home after all the recent upheaval in her life. So far, we've learned Millie is... -Cute as a button -Potty trained -Rides great in the car -Gets along w/dogs of all sizes, cats, chickens -Snuggle buddy -Has barked a couple of times but overall quiet -Sleeps through the night -Will follow you around -Loves belly rubs Check back soon for the next update on how Millie is doing!

ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Sherlock! He is a 24lbs, 3 years old, white Poodle mix. Sherlock loves humans and will bond to all his primary humans quickly. He will also play well with other dogs. Sherlock has lived a difficult life and as a result is very food and treat motivated. Clear boundaries are needed for Sherlock as he has an oral fixation and wants to nibble on his humans to express affection. The oral fixation is easily corrected with food and treats, but probably not appropriate to live with children under that age of 12. He loves to snuggle and will love you deeply if you’re scratching him. Sherlock can be unsure of new humans and new environments and needs a moment to acclimate. He walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Due to his past life, Sherlock does have some abandonment trauma and will always prefer to be with his humans rather than home alone. His Foster says he can be alone at home for a few hours but will be sitting at the door waiting for you the entire time. He is house/potty trained, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Can you give him the great life he deserves? Sherlock’s adoption fee is $300.   All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  February 21, 2025, 2:40 pm

Story
Meet Morita, this little piranha is the cutest baby you will ever meet. A little puppy full of energy and excited to make new friends. She loves to play with dogs and cats, she is usually very friendly and sociable, she adapts easily to new environments, and loves to play with balls, small stuffed animals, ropes, and anything you give her, she is in her naughty stage, and she is too adorable, easy to train, she is in potty training, she still has some accidents but it is normal in a puppy. He is also learning to walk on leash. She has no problem wearing clothes, bows or having a ponytail. She likes to sleep in a big and comfortable bed, or sleep in bed with you, she usually follows you around the house running, even if you walk, she is tiny, haha, she likes to play biting (but it doesn't hurt, it's just because she is a puppy) Intelligent, adorable, loving, she likes to give lots of kisses, she welcomes you with joy when you come home, and she knows how to ride in a car.

Story
Watson is a purebred 4 years old Mini-poodle. He is loving, affectionate and playful!  However, he was diagnosed with a seizure condition since he was 1.5 years old. He has been on medication since then. Today, he takes 4-types of medications twice a day. He has been treated and monitored under a specialty veterinarian neurologist locally.  He gets his annual checkup and also 2 of the 4 medications need semi-annual blood work to make sure the dosages are appropriate. With the medication, he has mild seizures about every other month.  Unfortunately, our family is in a situation that we can't accommodate him anymore. He is in San Diego and pet fee will be waived if a local family adopts him. Otherwise, it will be just the shipping charge there might be. Please reach out for any questions.
