####HIGHLIGHTS-Needs to be the only dog in the home-Single person home-Needs 4’ fenced-in yard-Needs routine and an experienced adopter-Particular grooming/veterinary needsMeet Bitsy, a loving, intelligent, and spirited dog with a unique personality and special requirements. Bitsy is a 2.5 year old Shih Tzu mix and weighs 13lbs.Bitsy thrives in a one-on-one environment and is best suited for a solo-human household where she can bond deeply with her primary caregiver. She is fiercely loyal and protective of the people she connects with, especially those she considers her `person.`. Bitsy is best suited to a home where she is the only pet and does not have to compete for attention. She should be placed in a home with someone who understands her need for space, respect, and routine. Bitsy thrives in environments where she is the center of attention and can form a deep bond with her human.Bitsy enjoys engaging in playful activities like zooming around the yard and playing with toys, making her an excellent companion for active, engaged playtime. She does enjoy the attention from multiple people but only likes the attention from one person at a time.Bitsy prefers a gentle, one-handed pickup, and she’s most comfortable when she initiates the interaction, but dislikes being cornered or approached too quickly and can become defensive if she feels threatened. Her discomfort with handling is something that can be worked through with patience, consistency, and understanding.Bitsy walks on leash with pride but is learning to be more confident around new environments or other dogs, she struggles with being in close quarters with them, especially in a group setting. However, she is social and open to interact with people she knows, often greeting them enthusiastically by pawing at the front of her kennel.Bitsy is highly intelligent and will seek out opportunities to escape when new people are around, so she requires a home with a strong, consistent handler who can provide structure and clear boundaries. While she has made significant progress with training at the rescue (muzzle & crate training), especially during activities like going outside and entering the kennel, she will still need ongoing training to help her feel more comfortable in these situations.Bitsy is looking for a loving, patient home where she can feel safe, secure, and cherished for who she is. She’ll reward a caring and u

Story
HIGHLIGHTS:Needs another confident dog in the homeMeet Captain – A Shy Boy Learning to TrustCaptain is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 19 pounds, making him a big boy for his breed. This gentle soul is still very shy and nervous about touch and being picked up, but he’s slowly starting to come out of his shell each day. He is looking for a patient and understanding home that will give him the time he needs to feel safe and secure.Captain loves other dogs and is very playful with them. He will need a dog friend in the home who is not only playful but also confident, as he takes comfort in their presence and will learn from their example. A well-adjusted, friendly dog will help Captain work on his confidence and show him that people can be kind.Right now, Captain is still learning what it means to be loved and cared for, and it will take time and gentle encouragement before he`s ready to be a cuddly lap dog. He needs a family that will go at his pace, letting him build confidence on his own terms. If you`re willing to invest time, love, and patience into helping Captain feel safe, he has the potential to blossom into a devoted companion. Watching him grow and trust will be an incredibly rewarding experience. Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog`s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website.

Story
Kiwi is very much a companion animal. He wants to be near his person and will sit at your feet or on your lap for hours. He is very eager to please. Kiwi had parvo very badly as a young puppy so he was having difficulty with knowing when he has to go to the bathroom. He still has a disconnect between knowing that he has to go and alerting you. When he has to go he has difficulty holding it. It's imperative that you're willing to let him consistently. He is getting better as he ages so perhaps training and time will alleviate the issue. He's very sweet and loving which makes it worth the effort. He will need a fenced yard. His adoption fee of $375 includes neuter, microchipped and vaccinations We are located in the Colorado Springs area. All adoptions require a home visit. Please apply at www.whimperstowags.org under 'Forms'. Thank you!February 10, 2025, 2:50 pm

Story
Rhino is a very lovable boy, full of energy and LOVES to play fetch with squeaky toys. He is very smart, yet still has some issues to work on. He can be in a home with other dogs, but preferably female dogs. He can be around other male dogs, but is slightly aggressive at first until he gets to know them. We are choosing to re-home him as he was supposed to be a playmate for our other dog and unfortunately his presence has made her revert back to some old ways.
