Story
Mighty Handsome Milo is our happy offering in the Shih Tzu loving dog world. It is rare to have such a young and healthy male to offer.  He is only 3-4 years old and 14 pounds and came to us as a very raggedy boy that you could not even see his eyes under all the hair.  He was a neglected surrender and we were so happy to take him in and transform his life.  He is the sweetest thing ever and he loves everyone he meets.  Dogs, cats, people, it doesn't matter two legged or four. He just wants to be everyone's friend.  Mighty Handsome Milo has been around kids around 8 yrs old but not toddlers and so we will not consider families with young young children for everyone’s best interest.  He loves to play with other dogs his own size so a playmate would be a plus if you have another small dog. He would like to have a fenced in yard as he likes to roam around the yard and play with his foster roommates.   A constant leash walk might be confining and ultimately no fun!!!! He walks on a leash really well and is crate trained and doing good on his house training. Milo didn't know about steps until he came here and now goes up and down 4 steps to the yard like a pro.  He is adorable and loves to cuddle and give you all the kisses you want in life.  Toys are a favorite pastime to wile away the hours.  Don’t miss this rare offering in a young Shih Tzu who has a good 12+ years to add to your lifetime of loving a dog. If you are interested then please write to us about Critter Cavalry Rescue,  ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 2:03 pm

Story
Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.SISSY     Female Weight: 8.6 lbs Best guess for age: 14 years as of September 2023 Best guess for breed: Shih tzu and Yorkie mix   View more cute photos of Sissy here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBBTJU  It can take a lifetime of experience to teach people what the most essential - and best - things in life are. Good food. A comfortable place to rest. Smelling the flowers, savoring the feel of a warm sunbeam. And, above all, being with loved ones.   Or it can take a Sissy.   Sissy is content with the simple pleasures of life. She loves relaxing on her bed and will just enjoy her time there, going to her water bowl when she gets thirsty. She enjoys cuddling sessions. She relishes her rides in a stroller on warm days, sniffing the breeze. When her foster family goes on a road trip, she enjoys the car ride; she is an excellent traveler. When the four dogs in her foster home are playing around her, she likes just being near them. And oh yes, she loves her meals and her treats!   She communicates well with her humans. If she needs something - food, a water bowl refill, to go out for potty - she barks. She will also signal if she needs something during a car ride.    This sweet, calm, laid back girl experiences life with her nose and her heart. She is mostly blind and deaf. Her fosters say she has mapped her areas in their home and has her favorite spot there.    Because she is not able to see or hear when her humans are not around to respond to her barking cues, she would do best in a home where someone is home most of the day. Sissy has so much to offer in exchange. Love. Cuddles. And reminders of what is truly important. Will she be your reminder? Will you be her soft landing?   Gets Along With:   Sissy currently lives with dogs and does well. She hasn't been seen with cats. Because children might not remember to be calm around Sissy, we do not recommend her for a home with kids under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Special adoption considerations:  Sissy experiences the world with her nose and her heart. She is mostly blind and deaf. She also has a couple of health conditions but the 15/10 Foundation is generously sponsoring all of Sissy's medical care moving forward. Sissy's future adopter will be able to submit receipts for medical expenses to the 15/10 Foundation for reimbursement.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $375, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. This utterly adorable little pup landed in the shelter through no fault of his own. To know he's safe and loved and under his own roof. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and snuggles and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is there room for Albert in your lap and in your life? What My Foster Says About Me: He is GREAT in his crate and will eat everything in his dish.  He's pretty good on leash and hasn't barked at people around us on walks. Personality wise, he's very playful and very good with other dogs. I have 3 other dogs in the house that range from large to tiny and he gets along great with all them. He minds his business for the most part but he does want to play every once in a while as well. Such a Happy dog! Daisy is a lovely 3 year old Shih Tzu. According to her foster mom " Apparently her life is complete as long as she has a tennis ball and a bed " Daisy is a very easy dog...she walks well on the leash. enjoys her meals and will follow you anywhere. Her housetraining seem to be almost there but she does not really give off signals so fosters take her out often. She loves to play catch with you and will return tennis balls or a toy. Good with dogs but not a big fan of them, much prefers her people.. She would work will in a home with folks that are retired or work from home.. Daisy is not a fan of thunderstorms , and needs your help to get thru them.. Otherwise..That smile on her face will brighten up anyones day! Daisy is spayed and up to date on vaccines. This dog's adoption fee is $375 Freckles Foundation & Animal Rescue cannot guarantee the exact age or breed of any animal in our care. Story
Meet DOLLY! Sweet Dolly is about 8 years old, 10 pounds, female, black and white Shih Tzu. She is so sweet, calm and a friendly gal! While she is older, Dolly loves to get attention from her humans. Everyone she meets adores this sweet girl! She settles down nicely to hang out with her people and has done well with other dogs (both young and old) in her NC foster home. Dolly has great house manners, including being housetrained. Poor Dolly has not always been properly taken care of and was found in terrible matted/dirty condition with a painful eye injury by animal control in NC. This poor girl was so scared but little did she know at the time how great her life would become...a temp foster in NC ensured she had necessary surgery to remove the injured eye and took care of her until PetConnect Rescue was able to come to her rescue and bring her to the DC area to a great foster. So now Dolly has left her horrible past behind and is ready to find her new, and this time, forever home. Although she is a senior with a slower gait and more limited vision, she has so much love and happiness to give to her new family for many years! Dolly would love to curl up in your lap to hang out on a summer evening; she loves to cuddle and get pets! Dolly will do best in a relatively quiet, laid-back home! Dolly is up-to-date on vaccines, preventatives, and has had bloodwork and a dental! She is eager to find her person(s) to love! ***Please note that our first step is to fill out an application (it does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Dolly is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. As part of our Silver Paws Program, Dolly has also had a senior exam and bloodwork. The adoption fee for this dog is $250 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. For more information, please email Robin at kinstondogs@verizon.net **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**

Story
Tiffany was in pretty bad condition when we picked her up from the PG shelter in December. She weighed just 6 ½ pounds and had recently been shaved due to being matted. Her eyes were in AWFUL condition and as a result, she has had multiple eye surgeries. She had her left eye removed and can only see shadows and movement with her right eye. She will need to continue with eye drops multiple times a day for the rest of her life. She doesn’t mind getting the drops in but does not like to have her eye cleaned. She also has some allergies and is currently receiving a Cytopoint shot as needed and periodic medicated baths. She lives with 2 other small dogs and gets along well with them. I am not sure about cats and she would be best with kids over 12 years old. When the dogs start barking, she joins in and continues even after the “threat” is gone since she has no idea why she’s barking..lol. Tiffany adjusted to her surroundings quickly and has her own room where we feed her and have pee pads laid out for her. She LOVES to eat!! She will let you know when it is mealtime and we have not found any food she does not like!! She has free rein of the home and is non-destructive when left alone (on average about 6-7 hours a day). She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs! I have not crated her at all. She needs to be carried down the stairs but is able to go up the stairs on her own. If there are stairs in the home, there must be a gate to prevent her from falling. We use steps for her to get on and off the couch. She loves to be on the bed and will let you know when she needs to be lifted up. She has recently started playing with toys and tries to play with her doggie siblings every once in a while but she just keeps barking in their face and they don’t understand what she wants. She gets happy feet when she gets excited. She also greets us at the door when we get home! She walks well on leash but is rather slow because she loves to stop and sniff everything. She also has a doggie stroller that she likes to sit in and also likes to be carried. She wants to be in the same room as you and prefers to be laying on a pillow or on your lap. We think she should have an older doggie sibling so she is never alone. She definitely likes to be part of a pack. If you would like to add her to yours, apply today! My Profile Age and weight: I'm about 11 years old and weigh 9 pounds Good with kids: Yes, kids over 12 years old. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page to see if Tiffany will be attending the next adoption show. Story
Due to the large number of applications we have received for Emma Jane already, we are not currently accepting new ones until we have a chance to process the existing ones. If you have already submitted an application, we will be in touch sometime in the next week or so. Emma is a 1 ½ yr old spayed Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix. She weighs approximately 10lbs. She will have a wavy/curly coat as it grows out. She will require regular brushing, grooming and vet care for the next 10+ years. Emma was given to me as an owner surrender and PGSPCA then took her into rescue. Her previous owner did not have time for her and she was “too active” for them. She had not been vetted beyond her initial shots and was completely matted. Thankfully a friend of mine was able to shave her within a couple of days and it made her feel so much better! She will need to be groomed on a consistent basis (every 6-8 weeks). She is now fully vetted. She lives with 4 other dogs ranging in age from 5-11. She gets along well with all of them, especially the beagle! They are obsessed with each other!! They love to run around the backyard, wrestle and share their toys with no issue. She gets the zoomies daily and will need to be able to run and get her energy out. I am not sure about cats (although she was non-reactive to the feral cats outside). She has only met kids once while on a walk but was completely fine with them. Emma is ALL puppy, so make sure you are prepared for those antics! She is super friendly and doles out kisses frequently! Most mornings and every time you come home, she greets you with lots of squeals and wiggles and demands to be picked up and cuddled on. She is a bit of an attention hog but that’s only because she has so much love to give. You may try to resist her, but her smile and joy will win you over and next thing you know she will be in your arms!! She has free reign of the home and is mostly non-destructive, maybe shredding some paper here and there if it’s in her reach. She currently is only left alone for about 6 hours a day. I have not seen any food aggression from her but she will steal food from another dog if it is on the floor or left in their bowl. Because of this, I feed her in a closed room. She will also steal food from you if you leave it unattended! She doesn’t know any commands but is food motivated so it would probably be easy to train her. She will go to the bathroom outside but is not house-trained yet. She runs back inside quickly and then I find special surprises in the house, ugh. She will need someone that has patience and will continue to work with her and teach her the proper areas to go potty by using positive training methods. She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs and sleeps through the night! I have not crated her since I’ve had her. She walks great on leash and is non-reactive to other dogs or animals. She rides well in the car and is very social so she would be easy to take on adventures! I think she would prefer to have another dog with medium/high energy to play with. And I think she will most likely do well with children over the age of 6 (just because she’s a little jumpy trying to get attention). A fenced-in yard would be preferable so she can run and get her zoomies out and then she will sleep soundly through the night. She makes us laugh every single day and is one of the most lovable dogs I’ve ever seen. She is a special dog that will make a family happy for years to come! My Profile Weight – 10.5 lbs Age - 20 mos (as of August 2024) Good with kids: Most likely Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown/non-reactive to feral cats Fenced yard required:  preferred OK for townhouse or apartment: Yes for townhouse/No for apt House trained: Not yet, working on it Crate trained: No Barks when left alone: Not sure Chews inappropriate items: No but gets into things Training: None Activity Level: Medium/High Meet Me If you are interested in Emma Jane, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application. Story
I have more videos on the rescue website! My name is Pepper. I weigh 7 lbs. (2/16). I am one in a litter of three. We were born around November 15. We are fostered in Mount Airy, North Carolina but easy, affordable transportation is available. Our mom weighed 7 pounds and our dad weighed 10 pounds. They were both family pets with great dispositions. We all have long bodies and short legs. We are not considered hypoallergenic or non-shedding since we are mixed breed puppies. We are well socialized and very loving. We love being held and petted, and we always greet our foster mom at the door with wagging tails and lots of kisses. We love to play with toys and with each other. We do like to chew on fingers and toes so we definitely need some training in this area. We have a medium energy level. We are working on house training. We sleep in a crate every night and we have learned not to potty in our crate. As soon as our crate door is opened every morning we run straight to the door to go outside and potty. We are good with the other dogs and love to play with them. I am the boldest of the three and the first to try anything new. I love to snooze in my foster’s lap! We provide hours of entertainment to our foster mom just watching us play. We are pretty typical puppies - we eat, sleep, play, and then start all over again. We have so much love to give and we are ready to go to our new forever homes! We will not be adopted in to homes with small children because we are so small. We are up-to-date on our puppy shots and we have been dewormed. We have already had a check up by the veterinarian. Our records will accompany us to our new homes. Email is the best method of contact . Adoption applications can be found on our rescue website Carolinacaninerescuenc.com
