Introducing BOGIE, a Bichon Frise & Shih Tzu cross breed who is just over a year old, weighing approximately 12 pounds. Bogie is a very sweet boy that was rescued from a puppy-mill breeder when he was “too old” to sell. Bogie does not have a mean bone in his body and really craves a gentle touch/pet because he finally feels safe. Bogie follows his foster mom around, especially when outside in the yard, and now feels safe to come when called. He now plays and sometimes gets the “zoomies” in the yard, looking so happy. His recovery from his horrible first year of life has been remarkable and we are so happy for him. Because Bogie can be skittish, especially from unfamiliar sounds and people, he requires a calm household, securely fenced yard and another friendly, small to medium sized dog in the home who will continue to mentor Bogie’s rehabilitation. Bogie enjoys the companionship of other dogs but more importantly he gets his confidence from them, learning more typical dog behavior. Bogie has good home manners and is housebroken. Due to his skittish nature, he has not been trained to go for walks on a leash. He is approved for adult-only  households. He is such a great little dog whose future is so bright! This dog has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, provided vaccines, been dewormed, tested for diseases, neutered, and microchipped. If dog love is what you are looking for, Spot is your guy. Spot came to ARF from his previous owners. The main caregiver went away to college and the other family members did not have the schedule to give him the love and attention he needs. Spot is a young and very playful pup. He has a lot of energy. He will do best with an active family.  If jogging is your thing, he would be a great companion for runs.  He loves going for walks, playing with other dogs, and going on car rides.  He would benefit from a fenced in yard to give him a safe space to run and play. He is looking for a patient parent to help him with his housetraining. Once Spot learns all of his manners he will be the best friend that your whole family has been wanting. For now, he may be a bit much for small children due to his rambunctious personality.  Spot knows sit and come, and will come when his foster whistles.  So far he doesn't respond to his name, which makes it easier to change if desired! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Louie, a sweet Pekingese mix who is ready to find his forever home. Born around January 9, 2025, and weighing about 14 lbs, Louie’s life hasn’t been easy so far. He and his friend were living in a bus lot for eight weeks during our winter freeze, struggling to survive in a tough and cold environment. Tragically, Louie was hit by a car during this time, and another dog from their group went missing. Thankfully, a skilled trapper was able to rescue Louie and his friend Jetson, bringing them to safety where they’ve been healing. Though Louie is still a little shy at first, he’s warming up to people and starting to come out of his shell. He’s been in foster home recovering from his orthopedic surgery from his broken leg, and has been great with dogs of all sizes and doesn’t mind cats, so if you have other pets, he’ll fit right in. Louie loves to play with other dogs. He’s quiet, well-mannered, and calm in the house, and he’s already kennel trained and potty trained. Louie is neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccines, and current on preventatives like ProHeart and Bravecto. He’s microchipped, and after his accident, he now has fully recovered, which has helped him get back to his playful self. Louie is looking for a patient, loving family who will allow him to continue healing and growing into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be. His adoption fee is $400, and is currently located in Texas but is eligible for transport to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington (Kentucky), or anywhere along the East Coast. Ariel is an estimated 7 year old, tiny girl. Ariel came to us from one of our partner rescues after being released from a commercial breeder. She was extremely matted and unsocialized however she didn't let that stop her. All she wanted was to be by you, held, or laying on a comfortable bed. Ariel had a dental recently where we discovered just how bad her diet and lack of medical was. She has 14 teeth extracted (yikes, I know it sounds like a lot but dogs have a lot of teeth and she is eating GOOD) and had a bit of a recovery after this was done. Again, she did not let that stop her and she continued to prove that she is the sweetest and forgiving girl. She is crate trained, but when she is out she just finds her bed. She is not fully potty trained so she will need a home with patience and routine, this is to be expected when before coming to the rescue she had never lived in a home. She is looking to be someones companion and best friend. Ariel is adoptable within 3 years old Chicago. Autumn is a simple gal, she came to us from a rescue partner who had taken in a group of dogs released from a commercial breeder. She has been in a foster home and we are ready to start looking for her forever home. She is easily pleased and doesn't need much! She is a lounge around girl, who appreciates a soft bed and your presence. She is good with other dogs, but definitely isn't a playful dog so a dog that is more her low key energy. She is doing good on pee pad and potty training as long as she is kept on a consistent schedule. She would enjoy a home with a yard because sometimes a lot of chaos is harder on the commercial breeders, but with her easy going attitude I am sure with positive reinforcement there is a lot that she will continue in the right direction. Autumn is available for adoption within 3 hours of Chicago. Her adoption fee includes her up to date vaccinations and preventions, spay, dental, heartworm negative and microchip.
