Story

Tori is being fostered in Florida. Tori is a very laid back 10# girl who is quiet and rarely barks. She loves to be outside with her nose facing the breeze and catching the scents in the air. She lives as an only dog - but is very tolerant of the other dogs in our building. The cat in the family is not fond of Tori but Tori does not mind the cat. Tori has a favorite green blanket where she naps and sleeps at night (and is a loud snorer!). She likes frequent walks on leash and is house trained. She enjoys being on your lap or next to you while you are watching tv. Little is known about Tori’s past except that she was taken from her elderly owner who could no longer care for her. Pictures here show her ungroomed condition when she entered the shelter and after being groomed. Tori’s right eye had been removed at some time in the past and she has no vision in her left eye. Pressure in that eye is normal and her medical vet noted a dilated pupil and asteroid hyalosis. She has an appointment to see an opthamologist next month. She often scratches the right side of her face but no reason has been found for this. Tori does not drink from her water bowl but does drink water added to her kibble and gets four small meals a day. On arrival at her foster home in Florida, Tori was treated for worms including tapeworms. This probably contributed to her anemia and she is on lixotinic for that. She had a 4DX test and it was all negative including heartworms. A dental cleaning has been done and four teeth were removed. A benign lesion was removed from her left thigh at that time also. Tori gets very anxious with car rides, but her vet has ordered Trazodone to help her with this. Due to her size a home without young children is recommended. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Leaf is a recently adopted Shi Tzu. She is a very sweet lap dog with a beautiful smile and pleasant personality. She can be a little apprehensive around new people and places, but loves to go on walks and is a loyal companion. She is looking for a new home because of a dispute with another small dog, so caution to households that already have animal occupants. She comes with her food, bed, and toy. Adoptions must be about within an hour of Landenberg, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Eloise! Eloise is a 12-year-old, 17 lb, Shih Tzu mix who was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. She was suffering from bad skin infections and really needed some tender loving care. Eloise received a dental and lots of medicated baths to heal her skin. She requires a daily thyroid pill which costs around $2.00 a month. Eloise also has allergies which led to her skin problems. To avoid a recurrence, she takes a daily allergy pill which costs $90 a month. She also needs to be on a prescription diet and 25 lbs of food costs $125. Eloise is fully potty trained and can go outside or use pee pads. She has good vision and hearing and walks well on a leash. Eloise is pleasantly plump and likes to keep her stairs to a minimum. She enjoys other dogs and sleeps quietly at the end of her foster mom’s bed. Eloise doesn’t like to be over-handled so an adult-only or a home with older children would be ideal. Eloise still has some pep in her step and really enjoys walks and playing with squeaky toys. She loves to cuddle and get pets and dreams of a home where she gets lots of attention. Adoptions must be within a reasonable drive from WAYNE, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Margo! Margo is an 11-year-old, 10 lb, Shih Tzu/Maltese mix who was found as a stray. Being both blind and deaf, she was shaking like a leaf when she was rescued. Margo was so matted and dirty that her eyes were stuck together; so she quickly received a good grooming. The adorable face hidden underneath immediately captured everyone’s hearts. Although she cannot see or hear, Margo is very smart and learns to navigate new surroundings with her foster mom’s help. She is fully potty trained and can also use a pee pad. Margo needs help with stairs and for her safety would prefer a fenced-in yard. Margo can walk on a leash and happily sleeps in a dog bed in a large dog pen. She is good with dogs and kids but older kids are preferred due to her special needs. Margo eats Fresh Pet food and is scheduled for her dental this week. Margo is an amazing pup whose ideal home would have an owner who was home a lot of the time. Although she can be independent, she prefers to stay with her foster mom lounging on the couch, being carried around, or sunning outside. She surprised everyone by showing her love for the water and going for a swim in the pool. Margo deserves everything life has to offer and we hope it can be with you. Please apply today!
