My dog does not get along with other dogs big or small. I have 2 little dogs he tries to attack them. He has to go home we’re he’s the only one. Maybe with training he will learn to be with other pets unfortunately I don’t have the time to train him. Im currently working 3 jobs. Hercules is pure breed Saint Bernard I have his paper work. He’s 1 1/2 big bear, sweet dog, great with people. Full of energy, crazy giant:) I just want him to go great home with people that understand this breed. Hi there!  Mortimer here, checking in after arriving in Colorado! Im between 1 and 2 years old (no one ever told me my real birthday so the nice doctor at the vet's office took a guess) and the rescue people asked me to tell you a little bit about myself. I love tug of war!  I figured i would start with that since its really important that my new home like to play that with me.  I also like to play with other dogs, but can get a little scared if they are super loud and in my face at first.  I am "crate-trained" whatever that means, and enjoy these things called "leash walks" where i get to go out and smell and see new things.  My foster parents say that i have decent leash "manners". I've seen a cat a few times, and wasn't overly interested in it, but i have never lived with one, so I don't know how i would feel about that. I ended up in Colorado after someone dumped me in a very rural part of new Mexico.  A nice lady there found me and gave me food and water and shelter which was very nice, but she couldn't keep me so she found some nice people in Colorado to help me find a new forever home!  If i sound like the kind of dog you would like to hang out with fill out the application below and be sure to mention my name! Dixie and Latigo come to us after their human dad passed and Dixie started escaping the yard on a regular basis. Their human mom recognized that she could not keep them safe and asked us to help. We of course said YES! Things they will need in their new home – a yard with a 6 foot fence. Normally we don’t require fences, but for these two a 6 foot fence is an absolute MUST. They will still try to get over it, but won’t be able to. They are still learning the finer points of being inside dogs, but are doing really well so far! Dixie is definitely the leader with these two – she’s first to try new things and Latigo will follow her. They are also learning about leash manners – and so far are doing really well!

Babs is an absolute sweetheart at 18 months young. She came in after her owner decided her energy no longer matched his own. She is a pretty active girl that needs someone to continue to work on training with her. Her current foster mama says she is very sweet little tornado 🌪 💜. She weighs in around 110 lbs and still needs to be spayed and have her gastropexy before she is ready to be adopted out. However, she is available to meet. She does have some resource guarding we are working through when it comes to food, and she is still learning how to be polite on a leash.

If Everest looks familiar, it's because he used to be Ross! After being adopted and living his best life, his human mom was involved in an accident and her injuries meant it was no longer safe for her to have this beautiful boy, Everest is a strong puller on a leash, but loves his walks and his kitty. He did develop some protective tendencies over his human mom, but we suspect it was due to her injuries. He is crate trained, but doesn't need to be crated while you are gone.

Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2335846##

Alfie is the sweetest, most loyal boy you’ll ever meet. He’s a true people lover and has a blast playing with his foster siblings outside. Whether it’s cuddling on the couch, chewing on his favorite toy, or going for a long walk, Alfie’s got a zest for life and enjoys every moment. He’s crate-trained and sleeps soundly at night. Alfie is doing great with potty training and is highly food-motivated, which helps him learn quickly. Story
Sandler is your typical sweet puppy! He responds well to praise and is always wanting to make you happy. He is very loyal and can be protective at times. He is crate trained and we are working on potty training when he has free roam of the house. He is extremely food motivated but does respond to positive reinforcement as well. He has no idea how big he is (or will be) and spatial awareness doesn’t necessarily exist right now— but it’s the cutest!  He has a habit of jumping/counter surfing when he can tell there’s food being prepared, but we are working on this— so he will need someone who will continue creating boundaries and restrictions while training him in other areas such as walking on a leash (he’s got that puppy zig zag going pretty strong at the moment). We have been working on loose leash walking with a slip lead and he seems to be responding well.  He is dog friendly but can be confused when other dogs are setting boundaries. He has to be fed in his crate as he is having some food aggression around meal times but is totally fine with sharing toys/bones/treats! He has not been tested with cats but doesn’t seem to have much of a prey drive. He loves car rides and patio hangs!  ##2295783##
