Meet Autumn! This 50lb, bouncy girl is looking for a new home and a fresh start. Autumn loves to show off her tricks, and has lots of energy. She loves to go for walks, and play with toys. Autumn is shy being touched by new people, and would do best in a home with patient adults who can earn her trust. Autumn is working on not jumping up on people, but her new home would have to continue working with her to decrease the behavior. Your first step in meeting Autumn would be to head on over to our website www.worcesterarl.org find her picture in the adoptable dog`s section and fill out an inquiry form.

Story
Meet Max! A wise and wonderful ten-year-old Poodle mix from Ayer, MA, whose heart is as soft as his charcoal-dusted black coat. Max is a medium-sized gentleman, weighing in at 40 pounds, and he’s got one soulful eye that sees straight into your heart—and probably your snack bag, too! Max is the definition of a devoted companion. His world revolves around his people, and he’s happiest when he’s close—whether it's trotting by your side on a peaceful walk, snoozing nearby while you work, or simply following you from room to room. Max isn’t just a velcro dog—he’s a full-on shadow with a heartbeat. Because Max forms deep bonds, he struggles when left alone. His separation anxiety is very real and not just a bit of whining. When his people leave, Max becomes stressed and unsettled. At first, he’ll pace and vocalize his concern with soft whining and barking. If left for longer stretches, this turns into digging or chewing at doors and crates in a determined effort to find his way back to his loved ones. He doesn’t mean harm—his heart just hurts when he’s not near his favorite human. This anxiety can also make Max reactive in certain situations. When feeling stressed or unsure, he may bark, growl, or charge at other dogs or unfamiliar people, especially if they approach him or his person too quickly. It’s his way of saying, “I’m scared and overwhelmed,” not “I’m aggressive.” Max is working on this through consistency, calm guidance, and plenty of reassurance. A quiet home with an experienced caregiver who understands reactivity and is comfortable using positive reinforcement will be key in helping him feel safe and confident. Max knows a long list of commands and thrives with structure, routine, and predictability. He’s neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He requires a low-fat diet to manage chronic pancreatitis and receives care for hypothyroidism. Max is seeking a home where he can be the one-and-only pet, without young children or a revolving door of visitors. If you’re someone who’s home often or can include Max in your daily routine, he’ll repay you with unwavering loyalty and affection! Could Max be the one to fill your life with quiet companionship and devoted love? Reach out to meet him at adopt@joyfulpets.com!

Story
Penny is an incredibly sweet, silly, and eager to learn dog. She LOVES kids and plays well with my 5 and 8yos. She is super snuggly! Penny knows how to sit, to stay, and is learning to walk on a leash politely. She loves everyone she meets! We think she is about 2, still a wiggly pup but she settles quickly. She's 30lbs and so soft! We adopted Penny from a shelter in TX in December, and immediately fell in love. Unfortunately as she has settled in we have realized that we can't meet her needs. Penny struggles with two issues the shelter was unaware of-- she is reactive towards other dogs, and she has separation anxiety. As a single parent this is beyond what I can support. We met with a behaviorist who specializes in treating separation anxiety and I would be willing to pay for two months of treatment for her and her new family. DNA testing showed Penny is primarily a Standard Poodle mix. Happy to send her with her crate, beds, harness, leashes, toys, etc.

Story
Dominique is an extremely handsome, very social, black with a touch of white on his chest, male standard poodle born on 3/4/23. He currently weighs about 60 pounds and is a burning, burning hunk of love for sure, so it goes without saying that Dominique loves attention and is ready to bond with his special human. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, received a Proheart 6 shot and is also being kept on flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. His adoption donation is $700.00 plus $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Dominique the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
