Story
Dominique is an extremely handsome, very social, black with a touch of white on his chest, male standard poodle born on 3/4/23. He currently weighs about 60 pounds and is a burning, burning hunk of love for sure, so it goes without saying that Dominique loves attention and is ready to bond with his special human. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, received a Proheart 6 shot and is also being kept on flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. His adoption donation is $700 plus $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Dominique the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Meet Max! A wise and wonderful ten-year-old Poodle mix from Ayer, MA, whose heart is as soft as his charcoal-dusted black coat. Max is a medium-sized gentleman, weighing in at 40 pounds, and he’s got one soulful eye that sees straight into your heart—and probably your snack bag, too! Max is the definition of a devoted companion. His world revolves around his people, and he’s happiest when he’s close—whether it's trotting by your side on a peaceful walk, snoozing nearby while you work, or simply following you from room to room. Max isn’t just a velcro dog—he’s a full-on shadow with a heartbeat. Because Max forms deep bonds, he struggles when left alone. His separation anxiety is very real and not just a bit of whining. When his people leave, Max becomes stressed and unsettled. At first, he’ll pace and vocalize his concern with soft whining and barking. If left for longer stretches, this turns into digging or chewing at doors and crates in a determined effort to find his way back to his loved ones. He doesn’t mean harm—his heart just hurts when he’s not near his favorite human. This anxiety can also make Max reactive in certain situations. When feeling stressed or unsure, he may bark, growl, or charge at other dogs or unfamiliar people, especially if they approach him or his person too quickly. It’s his way of saying, “I’m scared and overwhelmed,” not “I’m aggressive.” Max is working on this through consistency, calm guidance, and plenty of reassurance. A quiet home with an experienced caregiver who understands reactivity and is comfortable using positive reinforcement will be key in helping him feel safe and confident. Max knows a long list of commands and thrives with structure, routine, and predictability. He’s neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He requires a low-fat diet to manage chronic pancreatitis and receives care for hypothyroidism. Max is seeking a home where he can be the one-and-only pet, without young children or a revolving door of visitors. If you’re someone who’s home often or can include Max in your daily routine, he’ll repay you with unwavering loyalty and affection! Could Max be the one to fill your life with quiet companionship and devoted love? Reach out to meet him at adopt@joyfulpets.com!

Story
Bentley is a very loyal and loving boy. He's a bit of a Velcro dog, always close by. In spite of his large size, he is puppy like with his affectionate charm. It would probably be best if Bentley were in a home with older children. Even though he is incredibly sweet, he may accidentally knocked down small children.  For the most part he's pretty mellow, but when the spirit hits him, running around the yard is such a joy! You can see the happiness in each trot. His energy is enthusiastic and full of of positivity. The other foster dogs are drawn to Bentley. He is the life of the party.   He is heartworm negative and fully vetted. All of his vaccines are up-to-date and he has been microchipped. His adoption fee is $350 and that covers the cost of transport from Arkansas to New England.  Bentley was once in a loving home, but his dog mom was a victim of domestic violence and hospitalized indefinitely due to her injuries. The landlord contacted us regarding the welfare of Bentley.  He was taken into our rescue with several other doodles. A few of them have been placed in loving homes and are doing quite great. Do you think you have what it takes to give Bentley a loving home as well? ##2334311##

Tad

Poodle (Miniature)

Story
Introducing Tad – the cuddle bug with a heart of gold and exactly zero teeth 🦴💤 At 9 years young, Tad is living proof that age brings refined cuddling skills, a love of naps that rivals any house cat, and a deep, spiritual connection to soft blankets. He’s blind. He’s deaf. And he’s still out here being a better roommate than your last three Craigslist finds combined. ✨ Tad is the definition of low-energy living. He’s not looking to run marathons (or walk the block, let’s be honest), but he’ll happily wander a fenced-in yard like a tiny, adorable grandpa on vacation, sniffing the flowers and soaking up the sun like it’s his job. ☀️🌸 He loves: • Warm laps 🐾 • Soft food (chewing is so last decade) 🍲 • Cozy beds (preferably your bed, because he’s a snuggle expert) 🛏️ • Friendly cats and calm doggy pals 🐶🐱 • Polite children who know to say “excuse me” before startling a gentleman with limited senses 👧👦 Now, let’s be real: being blind and deaf in a new place takes some adjustment. When Tad first arrived at his current and previous Foster’s homes, he got a bit lost and undoubtedly wondered “Who moved my couch?”. But give him some time, a warm blanket, and snuggles, and he’ll settle in like he’s lived there his whole life. 🛋️❤️ He’s mostly housebroken, which is to say he tries real hard and politely lets you know when it’s time for business—especially the #2 kind. 💩 He’s had some accidents, but we’re checking with the doc to see if something medical’s going on. Either way, he’s a gentleman and makes up for everything with pure love and a tail wag. Crate? No problem. Pen? He’s cool. Quiet? He’s practically a Zen master. Tad is not high maintenance—unless you count being adorable 24/7 as a full-time job. He’s ready to spend his golden years as your loyal sidekick, nap buddy, and soulful snuggler. 🐾💕 Adopt Tad—because nothing beats a warm marshmallow who loves you back. If you are interested in finding out more about Tad, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog The adoption fee is $150. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
