Story
This pet was brought in as a stray and will NOT be available for adoption through our program. All stray animals brought in are posted on the gallery to hopefully be reunited with their families. Each pet is evaluated upon arrival, and throughout their stay, at the Animal Center and we do our best to place the animal in the setting most appropriate for them. Sometimes, they may be better served through one of our Transfer Partners due to the intervention needed, ongoing care required or a quieter setting for that individual. We want our animals to put their best paw forward. If you are a 501c3 rescue and are interested in partnering with WCAC to help this pet, and others, you can find more information on how to help at: https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/animal-services/community-partners/transfer-program If this is your pet, please contact us immediately at AnimalCenter@wakegov.com Primary Color: Apricot Weight: 42.5 Age: 4yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Fancy is a 1.5-year-old, 55lb chocolate Poodle. Fancy sure does live up to her name by being the elegant girl that she is. But don't let that fool you, she can play with the best of them. Fancy's foster mom has described her as "Amazing! So smart, so sweet and so gentle," and that she's friendly to everyone she meets. Fancy didn't have a great start to life, so her loving, playful and friendly nature after being treated so poorly speaks so much to her character. Fancy does need exercise but loves to snuggle on the couch after she's tuckered out. If you think you could give Fancy the life she deserves, please apply online at www.crisisdogsnc.org. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We provide transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!July 13, 2024, 3:21 pm

She is very shy and anxious, she takes a while to warm up to people. After she warms up, she's very sweet and cuddly. She love to just chill at home and sleep.

Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 5/20/2024 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray - Ruby would not come to humans so she was trapped using the Missy Trap method.  Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Ruby Lenore is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Our veterinary partner completed a comprehensive exam and believes Ruby Lenore is spayed. We declined invasive surgery to confirm. Ruby Lenore will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract addendum. Weight: 51 lbs and she needs to gain few - needs to be at least 55 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? No - Ruby can clear a 4' fence.  We've not tried a 6' fence yet.  We do not want an adopter to be lulled into a false sense of security with a physical 4' fence.  Ruby does not clear the fence to leave. No, she sails over it when we are outside the fence for in Ruby's world, being on the side without humans is the wrong side to be on.  However, if left outside alone for any length of time, she is going over.  Ruby needs to be close to her people at all times.  What kind of home would be best for me? Ruby loves people and is looking for people who will be with her the majority of the time.  She also likes other dogs very much, any size and any age, and would do well with or without canine companions. Ruby is stunning and needs a home that will keep her tight, tight curls in pristine condition with regular bathing and blow drying.  She mats easily and needs regular grooming, a minimum of every 4 weeks.  Ruby should be considered a flight risk because of her ability to jump fences.  We're confident she was a stray because her people left her alone one too many times in a yard and she finally went looking for human companionship. She was scared when she was on the run and would not come to the humans who tried to open their homes and hearts to her.  However, once our trapper put up the Missy Trap, Reba happily went into it just a few minutes after the trapper left.  Fastest trap on record!  Our ideal home for Ruby will be an adult only home where she is the apple of your eye, the queen of your poodle heart.  We prefer someone who knows this breed and has owned at least one standard poodle or more.  Ruby would not do well being left alone for long periods of time but she would love to be your office mate.  She lies quietly at my feet while we are working, content to be part of the room but she does not have to dominate it.  What is my personality like?  Affectionate, loving, gregarious and playful.  Ruby needs and wants human companionship. Ruby is an enigma.  Beautiful, sweet and eager to please humans, yet found as a stray and trapped in order to catch her.  She is affectionate and loving but once she bolted past her foster mom as they were getting into the car and almost made it to the road before common sense prevailed and she came back to us.  We think there is some baggage there that will take some time to heal and is going to pop out in odd ways.  She's worth the work to win her completely and put these stray days behind her. Ruby has one bad habit. In a show of affection, she tries to take your wrist in her mouth to hold your hand.  Her foster mom is working to correct this, but it seems to be a deeply ingrained habit.  She does not hurt you and she does not bite you, but children especially may misinterpret this.  We are recommending a home with no children under 18 both for this and for the tendency to run away.  Kids are known to leave doors open. Visiting kids would be just fine as long as they have been taught to respect Ruby and to be cautious in opening doors so she can't slip by them.    How do I act when I first meet new people? A bit cautious at first, but she warms up within just a few minutes.  Other tips and tidbits: Ruby Lenore was found as a stray so we have absolutely no history on her. Based on her overall health and condition, our veterinary partner aged her at 5 years young. We celebrate her birthday 5/20/2019. Ruby has not been tested with cats.  House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. July 15, 2024, 8:05 am
