We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! MEET POPCORN!MEET ME AT THE NEXT WAG-N-WASH ADOPTION EVENT ON SATURDAY 4/12 FROM 11AM-2PM!4918 Adams Rd, Rochester, MI 48306 Age: 1 year old Weight: 17 pounds Breed: Yorkie and Cairn Terrier mix Popcorn is your typical lively terrier with a fun-loving spirit and a heart full of joy! At just a year old, his playful energy and quirky personality are sure to keep you entertained. He’s the kind of dog that will bring smiles and laughter to your home. Popcorn can be a bit rude when greeting other dogs, but he tends to do well with those that have the energy to match his and can provide clear boundaries. He has a dominant streak and initially tries to establish himself with new canine friends (likes to hump new dog friends lol), so patience and guidance from experienced dog parents will be essential. He has learned to cohabitate with cats in his foster home without concern, so he will do well with dog-savvy cats. This little guy would thrive in a home with older children who understand his energetic nature. While he’s crate trained and has improved his house manners, he did experience some marking behavior upon being recently neutered, but he’s made significant strides in curbing this behavior (especially with the help of a belly band). Popcorn enjoys walks and playtime in a secured yard. Due to his exuberance, he’s not suited for an invisible fence or tethered exercises; he needs a safe space where he can romp around freely. Grooming is not Popcorn's favorite activity—especially when it comes to his legs and feet—so he'll need a patient and experienced groomer. He can be a bit wiggly during nail trimming, so an owner who can help make this process easier will be a plus. Popcorn is searching for an active, loving family who will embrace all of his funny quirks and energetic personality. If you’re looking for a fun companion who will keep you on your toes and fill your life with laughter, Popcorn might just be the perfect dog for you! Story
Winnie is living her best life since our volunteer rescued her from a previous owner who kept her in a crate living in a garage. When she first arrived she was scared from not being socialized and it took her some time to trust and relax. After just a couple weeks she is playful with the other smaller dogs and her personality has come out. She is very sweet and loving and has learned the ropes from the other dogs. She currently uses pee pads in the home. Winnie is now ready to find a family of her own who will give her the life she deserves. Winnie is approximately 1 year old and weighs approximately 8 pounds.

Story
Roxie~born~May 2013Special BreedI’m a diva. THERE! I SAID it!! And I’m proud of it! And I will LET you KNOW it! AND I will NOT STOP NAGGING you until I get what I WANT!! And I MEAN IT!! (My foster mom used to squirt water at me to “bring me out of it”, as she puts it, but now she just shows me the bottle, and I stop.)She squirted WATER at me!! Like I’m a CAT!! There’s a few of those here. I’ve let them know how I feel about THEM! Stupid things. When I got here, boy, I was MAD!!! For a whole WEEK I was mad! So mad that my foster mom gave me my OWN bedroom, with a screen door on it so I could get use to the other critters. Every time she came near me, I’d try to chew off her TOES!! She had to keep a leash on me so she could get me outside. And she had to pick it up QUICKLY, because I’d try to BITE her. But she’s really kind. And I was getting lonely, so I asked her politely if I could come out of my room and have her hold me. And, of course, she said yes (but she was a bit scared). She still kept my leash on me, just in case, but one morning she took a chance and QUICKLY unbuckled it. And I didn’t try to bite her.I’m from Florida. Oh, FLORIDA!! Where it’s ALWAYS warm…and sunny…not like Michigan, where it’s been cold and grey and rainy. I had a great life with my mom in Florida, but she died, so I went to live with her granddaughter here in Michigan. But she couldn’t give me the life she felt I deserved, so she was brave and gave me to PAAW so I could find another home. And I was SO MAD!!!It’s nice here at my foster home. I made some friends (but there’s another girl dog here that I don’t like, so I start fights with her). AND…I have a boyfriend! ooOOoo!! He’s a Yorkie. Like me. I still have my own bedroom . (Sometimes he comes in my bedroom with me, hee hee hee.) My foster mom tried moving my crate and my soft bed (it’s my very own, the one I had when I moved here) out of the bedroom, but I didn’t like it. So she moved me back into the bedroom. When I want to go there, I ask her politely (I can be NICE when I want to), and she lets me in. Sometimes I go in because I’m tired. Sometimes because I want to be alone. And sometimes because I’m in a BAD MOOD. And then I SULK! With my BACK to the DOOR! Sometimes when I’m in a bad mood, she sings my name to me over and over. And it calms me.I’m 10 years old. I don’t know my birthdate. I’ve had babies (cuz I’ve got boobies!).
