Story

Peaches was found as a stray in South Korea and waited in the shelter for 45 days for his owners to come for him. The owner was finally found thru the microchip registration, but he stated he didn't want the dog to avoid paying the shelter fees. Peaches is an 8 years old Yorkie mix, male, 8 years old, neutered, utd vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, Snap 4dx negative, and comes with a vet Health Certificate. Parker

Story

We recently welcomed a lovely little male Yorkie into our rescue. Parker was found as a stray in Toronto. He is approximately 7 years old and weighs about 8 lbs. He was extremely matted when found and it was necessary to shave him down. He is in good health and up-to-date on all his shots. He was recently neutered. So far Parker seems to like to sleep in a dog bed. He will sometimes sleep in the bedroom with his foster parents or in the living room. He is not 100% housebroken and will need help with that. He also marks and is wearing belly bands when indoors. The foster mom is a groomer with dogs coming and going. The marking will most likely subside when in an adoptive home. In any case, he is fine wearing his belly band. Parker is currently being fostered with a couple of small dogs. He is friendly with them and other dogs he meets. While Parker doesn’t seem particularly interested in toys, he does try to play with other dogs. He doesn’t bark much, but will join in if the other dogs are barking. Stairs are not a problem. When he travels by car we place him in a dog bed on the car seat and secure him with a seat belt. Currently we are feeding Parker Royal Canin Adult canned food and Performatrin Ultra kibble. These can be purchased at Pet Valu. He has a good appetite and eats twice a day. We have no way of knowing what life was like for Parker in the past and we have found that he does not like to be handled too much. When he first arrived he would back away if approached. He is not aggressive or shown that he intends to bite. It’s been a few weeks and he will sometimes approach for a pat on the head or will jump on your legs for attention. It will take time for him to gain your trust and patience is necessary. A house with a backyard would be great. He loves to run around and explore. He does well with other dogs and another dog could be a great asset to him. It would probably be best if he went to a home with adults who could give him the time and patience he needs. Perhaps a retired couple or someone who works from home. He's a sweet guy who just needs time to unpack his past and process his new life with humans he can trust July 15, 2024, 8:52 am

Story

Kai was found tied to a telephone pole. He was immediately taken to a local shelter in South Korea. He was pulled the next day by a local rescue as shelter life is very stressful for a small dog. No one inquired about Kai so the rescue knew he was abandoned. It was discovered by the vet that Kai needed knee surgery and it is scheduled for July 10th. Once fully recovered, he can fly to Toronto. Kai is friendly to everyone including children, fine with dogs, respectful of cats, and simply needs a forever family. Meet Pal! This young dog is looking for a quiet home with an active lifestyle. His ideal match would be an active single person who is not away from home for extended periods of time.Pal loves human companionship, but it does take him some time to trust and warm up to any kind of physical touch. Loud noises also tend to stress him out, and this is why a quiet environment but active lifestyle is ideal for Pal. He would also benefit greatly from having a social dog in his home who can match his playful energy, but also help him to build confidence and feel safe.If you are looking for a walking companion, look no further than Pal! He loves adventures and will have his nose to the ground the entire time! Any walk that allows him the opportunity to dip his toe beans in water are his favourite! A rural home in a quiet neighbourhood would be the best fit for this little guy, as he is a little nervous and reactive around busy traffic. Walks are a very integral part of Pal's needs to stay in balance and as a high energy/anxiety dog, Pal is currently on Trazadone and Fluoxetine twice a day to help him regulate his emotions and reactivity. These are supports that Pal will need for life, in combination with lots of activity to be at his best and to feel his best as well.A fully fenced yard is an absolute must for Pal. Invisible or agricultural (hedges) will not be suitable for him.Pal is exceptionally clean and well-mannered in the home. He has no destructive behaviours, and is fully crate trained. Pal enjoys sharing toys while at play with another dog, but he has shown guarding tendencies with humans, so this will be something that has to be carefully monitored.We would not recommend Pal for a home with cats as he does like to chase and bark a them. We also feel that a kid-free environment is a must for Pal, and if his forever home has visitors, he should be crated as he could quickly become overwhelmed with a lot of noise and unusual activity.Pal is currently eating a wet food diet, and he enjoys liver treats as well. The true way to Pal's heart is to allow him a lot of time and space to feel safe before expecting too much from him. While he does love to be loved, it seems like he may have experienced some trauma and is very unsure of new people. His adopter will need to understand that he will need time and patience to feel safe and build his confidence before he will show his softer side.As a hypoallergenic, non-shedding dog, Pal will need regular grooms to keep his coat tidy and mat-free. Because of his sensitivity to touch, Pal currently needs to wear a soft muzzle while being groomed or examined at the vet but we have noticed some improvement in this area as he learns to trust humans.Only applications received through www.K9C.ca will be considered.
