You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- BJORN IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR DOG.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Health Condition: Bjorn suffers from food allergies and is highly sensitive to yeast which is having an impact to his overall well-being. Despite efforts such as allergy testing and various food changes, his condition has not improved. The veterinarian recommends specific medication and a raw diet to manage his allergies, but I am unable to afford these treatments due to financial constraints. As a result, Bjorn's quality of life has significantly diminished, and he is currently experiencing discomfort and suffering.   Behavior and Temperament: Bjorn is a friendly, affectionate, and well-behaved dog. He is good with people of all ages, including children. He gets along well with other dogs and cats, displaying no signs of aggression throughout the 5+ years I've owned him. He is house trained and has learned a variety of commands and tricks, showcasing his intelligence and eagerness to please. His favorite activity is playing fetch with his chuck-it ball. Additionally, he is not an excessive barker.Current Vaccination Status: Bjorn is up to date on his rabies vaccine, and he has received the full series of distemper vaccines in the past.Reason for Surrender: I am surrendering Bjorn because of financial difficulties. Due to a significant cut in income, I have been unable to provide the necessary medical care and specialized diet that Bjorn requires to manage his allergies/yeast sensitivity. I am making this difficult decision out of love for Bjorn, not wanting to see him suffer any longer.Ideal Adopter: We are looking for a loving and responsible adopter who can provide the necessary medical care and support for Bjorn's allergies. Experience with allergy management in dogs, especially with a raw diet, would be beneficial. The ideal adopter should have the financial means to cover ongoing high quality fresh foods for him and be committed to maintaining a high quality of life for Bjorn.   Additional Information: Training: Knows commands such as sit, lay down, roll over, high five, stay, jump spin, crawl, and is trained to pee and poo on command. Favorite Activity: Enjoys playing fetch with a chuck-it ball. Personality: Affectionate, friendly, and well-behaved.   Contact Information for Adoption: If you are interested in adopting Bjorn and providing him with the care he needs, please contact me (Daniel) at brown.danielalbert@gmail.com.   Thank you for considering giving Bjorn a loving home and a chance at a better quality of life. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2024, 2:58 pm

Story
NALA Female, spayed 2 years and 10 months old American Bulldog mix 60 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Sweet Nala was surrendered to a noisy, scary shelter with her six 4-week old puppies and was bewildered over what, why and how.  We immediately came to their rescue and could only do that because an amazing foster family said YES to the call. Nala was the BEST mama to her puppies!  She loves playing fetch and tug-of-war and when playtime is over, she enjoys her quiet time snuggled up on her favorite chair.  She knows sit, paw and down. Nala loves giving kisses once she warms up to you and is gentle taking treats. She's very sweet towards kids, even toddlers and hasn't exhibited any resource guarding with people.  She doesn't seem to have much of a prey drive and has only shown mild curiousity towards her foster's chickens. She enjoys her toys, but doesn't destroy anything that's not hers. Nala successfully completed a board-and-train program where she learned how to relax in environments where there's a lot of activity like stores and cafe's and also to help her get over her discomfort around men that she doesn't know.  Her trainer has wonderful things to say about her temperament and will provide a complimentary one-on-one session to whoever adopts her.   New Foster Home Update:  Nala completed her board-and-train program with flying colors and is now settling into her foster home. Here's what her foster mom has to say about Nala.... Nala loves having her nightly spa wipe and coconut oil rub down before bed. We do this to help relieve her skin allergies. She loves jumping in bed with me, ensuring she is touching at least the smallest part of me. The best part of it all she does not snore so we can all sleep in peace. Nala loves her morning playtime in the yard playing with her balls, followed up by her morning training and small breakfast. She then takes her mid-morning nap followed up by her lunchtime yard play or a walk stopping for lots of sniffs along the way. Nala loves her after-work meal and play time of us spending hours playing ball and tug-of-war. Squeaky toys are her favorite toy to play with all day long. Nala will be a wonderful addition to a loving active person or family. She is eager to learn and to show you what she knows already with pride and excitement. Nala can easily fit right in with your daily routine. I will say, just have stock in heavy duty chew toys and balls because she will be ready to run, jump and play alone or with you.   Interested in adopting? Of course you are! DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Griselda or, Grizzy, is 1yr & 3 months old, weighs 80lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is not microchipped.  "Grizzy knows how to sit and wait (sort of).  She knows away or down pretty well too." Griselda's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  " I am unable to provide for her schedule wise and financially the way I think she deserves.  We took her in on more of a foster basis from a family member whose dog had a litter and was slow to sell.  We haven't had luck finding her a forever home by word of mouth so tapping into resources now instead." BITE/SCRATCH INCIDENTS:  More than 10 days ago, Grizzy nibbled when she was excited and scratched her guardian; the skin was not broken; animal control was not involved.  Grizzy's guardian further explains " She nibbles when excited and seeking attention but has done well with redirection to her toys. She has scratched at our feet for attention as well." Griselda's guardian offers a brief medical history:  " She has been itching to the point of breaking skin that then scabs over.  We are bathing her 1-2 times a week which helps for a bit.  I did find 2 ticks on her within the first month or so that were taken off with no issues." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding children:  Grizzy has lived with a 4yo child, so her guardian recommends her living with children, stating " she has been fine and is usually just curious about them. The first night she was in our home she did try to nibble at Wyo when he had a towel on so I think hooded things make her nervous." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Grizzy hasn't lived with dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating " I am unsure how she would do with another dog in the house.  She has grown to be protective of our space but we haven't had another dog come over.  She's been fine with dogs outside of the house." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Grizzy hasn't lived with cats, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating " When we visited a home with a cat, she is very interested and curious about the cat - the cat is not friendly so will run away.  Seems like when Grizzy has gotten close enough she's only looking to smell the cat." Griselda's guardian describes her as: Couch potato Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Griselda's guardian describes her ideal future home:  " I think the ideal home for Grizzy would be a young family who has a love for bigger dogs. She is playful and energetic but doesn't take much activity to tire her out -- a few laps around the house or outside is all it takes. She loves getting pet and snuggled with and would I'm sure love a home where she could curl up on the couch with her person. A yard is not necessary but someone who can walk her or have her walked twice a day would be appreciated." Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Baltimore, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Atlas is a bully mix, is 1yr & 3mos old, weighs 65lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.  Atlas's guardian adds:   "Atlas is a fun and friendly dog.  He loves to go on walks, play tug, and practice his obedience training.  Out in the yard he may play fetch - after checking the perimeter to keep you safe from squirrels and bunnies!  After some exercise he is happy to settle down and chew a Nylabone or snuggle with his people.  He is equally happy at home on your couch or in his crate.  But he is very sociable without being a pest, so if you would like company at a dog-friendly cafe or other outing, he would much rather come along for the fun!   Atlas observes routines and learns very quickly, so he adapts to new environments well.  He would love to continue attending a doggy daycare or training classes so he can show off his smarts and continue his good manners with other dogs.   Atlas is either loose in the house during the day, or in his crate, depending on what we are doing.  At night, he sleeps in his room in a portion of the basement so the cats can be loose in the house at night.  He's fine during car rides, as he's excited at first but will settle in the back seat or in the back of an SUV.  Atlas has been attending a day training daycare at Leash Free Living in Millersville MD.  He knows all basic obedience, will sit and wait for food or to go through doors.  He is a very quick learner and takes correction well.  He is working on loose leash walking using a prong collar.  Atlas is currently eating Purina Sensitive Stomach and Skin kibble - salmon based.  Bullies tend toward allergies and chicken allergies, so we started him on this to prevent any issues." Atlas's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Atlas is a perfect boy in all ways but one - he cannot live with cats or other small animals.  He came to BARCS as a stray, so his background with cats was unknown.  We, along with a trainer, have determined that his prey drive is too strong to live with our cats." Atlas's guardian offers a brief a medical history: "Atlas was on anxiety meds at the BARCS shelter, but once he went to a foster and then to us, he has not needed them." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Atlas hasn't lived with or otherwise been around children, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating... "He has not interacted with children that we have seen, but based on his size, strength and young energy, I think he would be a bit too much for kids." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Atlas has lived with dogs, so his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating... "Atlas is good with dogs his own size and strength.  He is not reactive.  He should not be a dog park dog because he needs proper introductions, but he is fine out and about for walks, restaurant patios, etc where other dogs are.  He also works well in his training and play group at Leash Free Living." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Atlas lives with cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "No cats.  Strong prey drive.  He fixates on them and shows signs of stalking". Atlas's guardian describes him as: Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Atlas's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Atlas would be fine as an only dog, but he also enjoys having a playmate of his own size and 'rough and rowdy' play style.  A fenced yard where he can wander and run would be best.  He needs a good play session or long walk a few times a day, but otherwise is quiet and settled in the house.  He is still young, so he needs to burn that puppyish energy!  Atlas needs an experienced owner who can provide structure, routine, and exercise as well as reinforce the great start he has in training."
