Story
Kay is a lovely girl who has been coming out of her shell and is turning into a social pup. She bonds quickly to humans and likes to stay very close. She doesn’t seem to have any issues with other dogs, and passes them calmly, as long as they don't get too close to her preferred human friend. She is friendly and loving, and will make a great addition to just about any home. Kay is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Kay might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Thank you for your support!

Story
Shampers is a tender-hearted, shy girl who needs just a little time and patience to feel safe with new people. She's naturally curious, though, and with a slow, gentle approach, she’ll start checking you out in no time. Once she realizes you’re a friend, she’ll quietly start following along, often tagging behind her person on walks, as if she's trying to stay in the background while still enjoying your company. Loud noises can make Shampers anxious, but in our playroom, she’s beginning to find her confidence. When it comes to other dogs, Shampers really comes alive. Her playful side emerges when she feels safe, and she thrives in the presence of calm, confident dogs who help her feel secure and bring out her playful, carefree side. She looks to them for reassurance, and their companionship shows her that people and the world around her aren't as intimidating as they might seem. She might be hesitant to ask for attention at first, but once you start petting her, she won’t want you to stop! She’s a young dog, full of potential, and just waiting for the right person to show her that the world isn’t so scary after all. Shampers is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Shampers might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Story
Rumba is a volunteer favorite for many reasons. While her cropped ears make her look a little tough, she’s really just a big ol' softie underneath. Rumba loves human affection and will greet you by jumping up and licking your face before asking for some treats and belly rubs. She's a big sweetie and will try to sit on your lap for pets, and then will happily go sit in her bed and chill on her own. Rumba is an enthusiastic walker and may pull on leash because she likes to walk at a brisk pace, but with some training and treats, we're confident that she'll learn loose-leash walking in no time. Rumba would also make a fun running buddy, as she is great at matching pace and loves to go, but she's generally just happy to be outside and walking. Rumba also appears to be interested and friendly with other dogs and is housetrained. Rumba is a lover-girl at heart, so don't miss out on this sweetheart!

Story
This is Cole, one of our longest residents who really wants a home. It’s no fun for a puppy to grow up in a shelter kennel. Cole is a nice young pup who's looking for a new start. He is a little shy of strangers at first, and may give you a spooky little bark. But if you show him some affection and some treats, he'll be your best friend pretty quickly. He loves lap time in the playroom, even though he's a little big for that! He also loves other dogs and would do well with a companion dog in the home to show him the ropes. Cole can be pretty high energy sometimes, like any respectable young dog, and another dog would also help him get out some of that fun energy. Cole also settles nicely with his human friends. Once he gets the lay of the land, we think Cole will do well in a home – he just needs a chance, and someone to fall in love with him as much as our volunteers have!

Story
Eric is a shy young guy who missed out on socialization with humans early in his life. But introduce him to a dog, especially a young playful one, and he comes alive! This boy is very sweet and will need a patient new home to help him feel more confident in the world. He is starting to figure out what toys are for. Eric is also working on his leash walking, but so far it’s interspersed with numerous periods of rest (also known as a little bit of stubbornness)! We’re hoping another dog can help show him the ropes and provide some fun play too. If you have a dog needing a playmate, Eric might be the perfect fit! Or if you just want a pup all to yourself and are willing to help mold him into a wonderful gentleman, come on down and meet him. You’ll be very glad you did!

Story
Albert is waiting to meet you! This big guy is social, friendly, and always ready to make new friends—whether they have two legs or four. Playtime is Albert’s favorite time though, and he’s always up for a good game of fetch or a game of chase around the yard. His playful energy is matched only by his love of snuggling—there’s nothing he loves more than cozying up with his people for belly rubs and quality cuddles. Already a big guy, Albert most likely still has some growing left to do, making him the perfect gentle giant in the making! Beneath his sturdy build lies a sweet, sensitive soul. Albert can sometimes get startled by unexpected noises or new situations, but with a little reassurance, Albert’s true, soft-hearted nature quickly shines through. Albert is looking for a forever family that can give him love, guidance, and plenty of opportunities to build confidence while embracing his goofy and affectionate self. If you’re ready for a loyal companion who will fill your life with joy, laughter, and snuggles, come meet Albert today and let this big softie steal your heart!

Beans is currently being schooled by a group of dogs at the Rescue Barn. Check out our Instagram page to see her in action. @badrap_advocacy

Our dog coco has been the most wonderful dog. She is so sweet, loves everyone and so patient with kids. She loves going on walks and is house trained. She recently has had some tumor issues but is still very lively and healthy. She does need prednisone to keep tumor size down. We are so sad to have to say goodbye but would have so much peace of mind having her go to someone who will love her as much as we do

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis Dog is Available By Appointment Only Awww, Patti Smith makes our hearts melt. This cutie was frightened when she was found wandering in Oakland but seemed to want to be near people even if she was not so sure about them. With some patience and care, Patti Smith has come out of her shell in her foster home! She is a joy to be around. Her foster family reports that Patti enjoys long naps on the most comfortable surface she can find, has great leash manners (although sometimes there's a squirrel that she just can't resist), and is fully house trained. She has been left alone for up to five hours at a time and peacefully napped the whole time. She also enjoys car rides as long as there's a place for her to curl up and nap. You'll notice a theme here - sleeping is high on Patti's list of favorite activities! One of the cutest things she does is when she's given a new bone - she grunts and struts around the house to show it off before settling down to enjoy it. And when she's feeling herself, she'll roll around on the grass for fun. She is a sweet and mellow companion once she makes friends with people. Patti Smith has shown some nervousness around people she does not know trying to pet her, and will be best in a quiet home. She's about 90 pounds and would blossom even more in a warm, loving furever home (with comfy places to nap)! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Sonja, the ultimate couch companion and snuggler. Though she loves lounging around the house, she also makes a great plus-one for all of your social outings. Sonja is a lively girl and is quick to tippy-tap her toes when she's excited, especially about her favorite foods like cream cheese, peanut butter or tuna. She is a great dance partner, and when it comes to dinner time or treating, she will impress you with her lady-like "sit" command. She can't resist soaking up the sun, and may even try to trick you into letting her out for a sunbathing session. Sonja is a very social and friendly dog who loves being surrounded by humans. She is well trained, housetrained, and is perfectly comfortable in a crate. She knows basic commands such as "sit," "down," and "stay." and is a polite and well-behaved house guest. She prefers to sleep on a bed with her humans, but is also content in a crate. She has met a wide variety of people of all ages and has done well with everyone. She would do best in a home with a well-fenced, sunny yard as she can get a little worked up around other animals. Ideal for Sonja to be an only pet in the home. She is well-behaved on a leash and enjoys shorter hikes, but tuckers out around 2 miles. Sonja is about 8 years old and 55 pounds. She is in a foster home, and you can reach out at sonja@jeffvier.com or see more of her (and message her) @sonjadog_oas on Instagram! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereGet ready to indulge in the most delectable delight of them all – Cheesecake! This sweet pup is the life of the party, and once she's off leash in the yard, she's off like a sprinter at the starting line, ready to have a blast. She craves attention and pets, making her the star of any gathering. But she also comes when called, with so much enthusiasm! Cheesecake's sweetness doesn't stop there. She's the belly rub connoisseur, rolling over for a little dose of love and affection. She takes treats with grace and is an expert at "sit" and "down." Cheesecake does have a little secret – she's sensitive about her head, so a gentle approach is key. And she has a unique little head tilt, likely a memento from a past adventure or injury, possibly. We don't know her past but we know nothing can keep this sweetheart down – she's as happy as can be, ready for all the fun life has to offer. And when it comes to building her confidence, positive reinforcement obedience training is the name of the game.  Cheesecake is all about toys and, of course, soaking up that precious human attention. She's the ultimate 4 year old party animal! As for her canine companions, Cheesecake met a few at the shelter, but she's mostly looking for some one-on-one attention with her forever family. She was mostly uncomfortable meeting other dogs at the shelter and that's OK! We know the shelter can be stressful. So for now, we recommend that she be the only dog in the home. If you're ready to bring a slice of sweetness into your life and share it with Cheesecake, you're in for a treat like no other. Story
This is Lupe, who looks more like a tiger than a wolf! She has the most beautiful markings and is a very sweet girl. She’s pretty shy of humans at first, but absolutely adores other dogs, especially males. We are not sure of her history, but she definitely has had some puppies, so may have been bred for her looks, while not getting much human attention herself. That’s about to change for the better for Lupe! When playing with other dogs, she really opens up and starts to get comfortable, not just with the dogs, but also with the human friends around. Lupe doesn’t have much experience walking on a leash yet, but she’s working on it. She’s making up for lost time, and will make a very loyal and loving companion to the special adopter who’s willing to put in the effort to help her feel safe in the world. Might that be you? She’s waiting for you to help her make her new start.

Meet Kleo, a beautiful boxer mix with a spirit to match. This girl is high-energy and fun – she loves to engage with and get attention from her human friends. Kleo also loves to get zoomies, both on and off the leash. Plus fetch is her game – she can’t get enough. Add to that the fact that Kleo loves to play with other dogs her own size, and you have the makings of a fantastic companion. Kleo may have a bit of a prey drive for smaller animals, so she will only want to play with evenly matched dogs. But that shouldn’t be too hard to find, with her enthusiasm and zest for life. She appears to be housetrained and is ready to meet you today!
