Story
Meet Millie, a 2-year-old Pit Bull Mix, gracing the world with her presence at a weight of 44.8 pounds. Her journey hasn't been easy; she came into our lives through a stroke of fate, found abandoned in a park one summer, emaciated and neglected. Due to her challenging past, Millie requires a kid-free home, where she can gradually build trust and feel secure. In the loving embrace of her foster family, Millie has truly transformed. She's become an exuberant, playful, and affectionate companion who enjoys the simple pleasures of life. Whether it's embarking on leisurely strolls, indulging in a game of fetch in the backyard, or sharing a quiet moment on your lap, Millie is a dog who knows how to savor every moment. Not only is Millie house and crate-trained, but she also coexists harmoniously with feline friends. However, it's essential to note that Millie thrives as the sole dog in the household, as she tends to resource-guard her food and toys. To provide Millie with the ideal forever home, we're seeking a patient and nurturing owner who can offer plenty of activities to engage her both physically and mentally. Millie's foster mom has mentioned that she may vocalize when her active needs aren't met, a friendly reminder that this spirited pup is happiest when she's well-exercised. Once Millie establishes that special bond with someone, she becomes a beacon of happiness and loyalty. Thanks to our generous sponsors, her adoption fee has already been covered for an approved adopter. Please note there is a $15 rabies registration fee for McLean County residents.  Millie is waiting for a loving home where her heart can continue to bloom. If you think you could be that special person, apply today to meet her and start a beautiful chapter together. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Story
Meet Milo! He's a 1-year-old Pit Bull Terrier who currently weighs 53 pounds. This playful sweetie would love a home with a canine playmate, yet it's not required. Although Milo grew up with young children, he might do best with children age 5+ because he's blessed with the typical big puppy high energy level. He's house- and crate-trained. You'll quickly discover that Milo is a well-rounded boy. His hobbies include: * Running around in the house * Spending time in the yard * Going on long walks * Engaging in high-energy exercise * Playing with toys * Playing with other dogs   Milo follows his foster dad from room to room. His previous family didn't have enough time for him, so he didn't get much interaction. It might take Milo a minute to warm up to new people and situations. He just wants to be loved. Can you give Milo the exercise and love that he needs? If so, he'd love to meet you! His minimum adoption fee is $95 plus a $15 fee for rabies registration for McLean County residents.  He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Her love for playtime, whether it's a game of fetch or zooming around the yard, is endless. She thrives on outdoor adventures and long walks, where she can burn off her exuberant energy. Though she tolerate her crates, she much prefers being around her beloved humans. Her friendly, outgoing nature means she's never met a stranger she didn't like. Fada's joyful spirit and playful demeanor make her a perfect match for a home with older children (ages 10 and up) who can keep up with her energy and enthusiasm. Story
Introducing Frankfort, the cutest 1 year old Pit bull mix that weighs 37.1 pounds! Frankfort is on his way to mastering the art of housetraining and excels in his crate like a true champ. But don't let his missing eye fool you – this young lad's energy levels are through the roof! He's a bundle of joy who thrives on plenty of mental and physical activity, making a fenced yard the ideal playground for his spirited adventures. With his boundless enthusiasm and penchant for play, Frankfort is a natural-born goofball who's sure to bring endless love and laughter into your home. From games of fetch to joyrides in the car, he's up for any adventure that comes his way. Plus, he's a cuddle bug at heart, always ready to snuggle up with his favorite humans after a day of play. While Frankfort's energy and jumpiness may not be suited for very young children, he'll thrive in a household with kids ages 6 and up who can match his spirited nature with a bit of balance. And as much as he loves to play, Frankfort may not be the best match for feline friends due to his rough play style. According to his foster mom, Frankfort is a cyclone of chaos in the best way possible – a true testament to his playful spirit and boundless love. While he's still learning the ropes of polite play with other dogs, he's making great strides and would benefit from continued puppy training and socialization. If you're searching for a furry companion to keep you on your toes and fill your home with love and laughter, look no further than Frankfort. Come meet him today and discover why he's the perfect addition to your family! His minimum adoption fee is $95 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. Story
Athos needs a special champion. He was born here at the shelter a little over 2 years ago and has been adopted and returned twice since then. Each experience carries its scars and unfortunately, Athos's scars will take commitment to overcome. There are many things that make him good, lovable, and even ideal in many ways: he rides well in the car, loves to play ball with people, doesn't beg for human food or get on the furniture without permission. He listens well on walks, even when he notices a squirrel he'd probably like to chase. He likes to people watch out the window and gives kisses when he's feeling cuddly and affectionate. However, something has happened to Athos that prompts him to react true to the expectations of his breed when triggered, and he will need the work of a strong handler who understands the Belgian Malinois makeup. They are instinctively protective and benefit highly from early socialization, and it is evident that Athos did not receive that. Athos has completed a board and train program with a trainer specialized in his breed, but that doesn't override his instincts in the moment when he is startled. For example, Athos has fallen asleep comfortably on the couch with a trusted person, only to be startled awake when an unexpected family member entered the room. Hackles were up, teeth were shown, and growls were heard as his instinct told him he was protecting his person from an intruder. Once he realized he recognized the visitor, he was fine and calmed down but it is in those moments Athos can be menacing. People with hoods up (like sweatshirts or coats) spark the same kind of fearful reaction. Because of his lineage, combined with the unsteadiness of a life in and out of the shelter system, Athos will only be considered for adult-only homes with a history of dog experience, preferably with the Malinois or GSD breed. He is gorgeous, smart, and affectionate with the people he knows, so the person with the right experience who can help him work through his reactions when startled will have an amazing dog for life. If you are interested in Athos and would qualify, please give us a call and a manager will discuss him with you further. Moodonna is really enjoying her time in her foster home, but this sweet girl is ready to be adopted!Moo's foster mom says: "Her favorite things to do are to creep on the neighbors, watch the neighborhood critters, or pass out on the hot concrete. As far as the outdoors goes, we have her on a tether whether she is in the front or back yard. I'm a helicopter pup parent so I'm always out with her. She very quickly learned that when I say "careful" she is close to the end of her tether so she can slow down.Moo gets so excited she jumps on people impulsively still, but listens as soon as you say "off". She gets the zoomies often some days, especially when she is seeing the boys or my partner after they've been gone/busy for a few days. When she is inside, no potty accidents, no getting into things she isn't supposed to. After slowly testing her, we now are more than comfortable with leaving her to roam the house freely when we are out. Moo prefers the days where I work from home or my partner is working on the truck outside. You guys must have done some amazing work with this girl! Story
Tulip is a 4-year-old English Bulldog who weighs about 50 pounds and is as sweet as they come! This gentle girl is house trained and enjoys going outside for her potty breaks. She’s also crate trained, though she might bark a bit at first; she eventually settles down. At bedtime, Tulip is flexible—she’s happy to sleep in her crate in another room but also loves the occasional snuggle session in bed with her foster mom. Tulip is a laid-back companion who prefers to hang out indoors, but she also enjoys playtime with other dogs, whether they’re big or small, male or female. She’s great with children of all ages and gets along wonderfully with both men and women, making her an easy fit for just about any family. This friendly, happy girl loves to play with toys, chew on her favorite bones, and follow you around the house. Tulip also enjoys sitting in your lap for some quality cuddle time. She walks nicely on a leash and is happiest when she’s near her person. Tulip would thrive in any loving home, and her foster mom can’t say enough good things about her: “I’m so in love with her! She’s such a precious baby!!” If you’re looking for a loyal, quiet, and sweet companion, Tulip is the perfect match for you. Her minimum adoption fee is $350 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
