Tux is one of Muddy Paws' Native New Yorker dogs, and boy, does he belong here! He's absolutely the best leash walker I've ever fostered (including my own dogs 🫣). He walks loose leash right at my side, isn't fazed by sirens, traffic, bikes, strollers, or anything that dogs can sometimes be scared by. If you are looking for a dog to take longs walks on the beach with (or the Hudson), Tux is your boy.
Tux is also at the perfect age - old enough to be (10000%) housetrained, knows basic cues, and is so smart and food-driven that he would be an amazing dog for things like dog agility courses. He's definitely still a young dog and has the energy to match, but listens well and is working hard on learning that indoors is for relaxing and low arousal exercises, and outdoors is for play, tug, fetch, and scent
Tux is also AMAZING with both dogs 🐶 AND cats 🐱 - a rare find in rescue! I have four resident dogs and he's been completely neutral with them - doesn't mind their presence, and also doesn't bug them to play (they're all older and very much appreciate this).
So what's the catch, you ask? Tux has had a bit of a rough last few months and has been in a few different temporary homes - including being reclaimed by his original owner and then re-surrendered back to us for housing reasons. He's understandably a bit wound up now, but is coping incredibly well. The way this comes out sometimes is barking when crated-which we know can be tricky in this city of apartments. BUT the good news is that we've timed it, and after just 5 days with us, he now generally barks for less than 2 minutes before settling down completely. So if your neighbors like a good bottle of wine, Muddy Paws will even reduce your adoption fee to buy a few to gather goodwill before bringing him home 🍷. We anticipate that within 2 weeks, as long as his needs are being met (including exercise, both physical and mental), this will barely be an issue.
