Story
Welcome Gunner to the FHL Family! Gunner was found on Kennedy Road in Thomasville off of 109 and is a 50-pound Pit mix. He jumped into his foster's truck like he was meant to be in it. He's super friendly, loves to sunbathe, chew on his rope, and is a big fan of treats. Gunner loves to cuddle and sit in your lap. He is quiet in the car, and doesn't bark too much, unless his foster dad gets on the lawn mower. Gunner is neutered, housetrained, kennel trained, and does well with other dogs. So far, he doesn't seem to be a big fan of cats. He is heartworm positive and has started on his treatment, in which our rescue will be paying for until he is negative. If you are interested in adopting Gunner, please send us an email address to obtain an Adoption Application.

Story
Meet Ember, who came into our rescue two years ago and has never had any interest shown. She is a 3–5-year-old Pit mix and is quirky for sure, but a more loyal dog cannot be found. Ember thrives on human companionship. She is the executive assistant for her foster dad who works from home. She enjoys just having him nearby. She is housebroken, loves people, loves being dressed up, and she knows how to strut her stuff (and has a quirky wardrobe to show off)! While Ember plays with select other dogs, she is an alpha and territorial. She would do best as an only dog. Ember is loved by her foster family, but they know that she would be happier with people of her own. Since Ember needs supervision when with other dogs, she has her own executive suite because there are eight other dogs (foster and permanent residents) in the home. She has stolen the hearts of her foster family, but they know that she deserves to be part of all life and not living separately from her humans which often happens. Are you a no dog, no cat, no children, work at home dog lover who is need of a Canine Executive Assistant? Ember would love to apply. If you are interested in meeting this sweet girl, please reach out to us to obtain an adoption application.

Story
Meet Ruby, who comes to us from the community. Ruby is a 5 and a 1/2-year-old Pit Bull who like her name, really is a gem. She had a rough start in life, living most of her days confined in a crate. She came to us scared, unsocialized, with a very bad coat and skin. This girl was in need of major TLC. Ruby is such a happy girl now and is ready to go to her forever home. She walks well on a leash, rides well in a car, loves to play with her toys, and she will literally jump in your lap for cuddles. She would be better in a home with no cats and does tend to be dog selective. We were overjoyed when Ruby recently got adopted but sadly after a few weeks, she was returned to us due to no fault of her own. The adopters had a life changing event and no longer had the ability to provide her with a stable home environment. The adopters had this to say about her: Ruby is affectionate, housebroken, respectful of their personal belongings, and loved being part of their everyday lives. They also said that she loved meeting new people. Ruby is living back in boarding, and it's been a total of over 1 year since she's lived there. She would love to be given a third chance in life to show you how much love this girl has in her heart. If you have a place for her in your home and life to either foster or adopt, please reach out to us for an application.

She is up to date on all of her shots, microchipped, and spayed. Wonder Woman is a good car rider, both crate and housetrained, is not a barker, walks well on leash, knows sit, loves her toys, her treats (and catching them), loves to cuddle, and has her favorite spot on the couch. She is very well-behaved and is good with kids and other dogs. She is currently living in a foster home and her foster family continues to sing her praises. Story
This is Leo. He was adopted in November by my father from the local shelter in Florida -- Leo had been tied to a light post and left abandoned. My father had personal issues come up and is no longer able to take care of the dog. I am fostering him until he can find his forever home. I've been around dogs my whole life, and Leo is one of the sweetest dogs I've come across. He's full of love and is very playful. He does really well with other dogs and is very kid-friendly. Estimate is 3yrs old by the shelter, but he has a lot of puppy playfulness. He is house-trained. He is initially skittish when meeting new people/dogs or visiting new places. But once he warms up he is the life of the party. He loves to cuddle and show affection. Not aggressive at all. Rarely barks. Up to date with vaccinations, chipped and is neutered. Knows basic commands like sit. No rehoming fee. Just looking to find his perfect forever home. Currently located in China Grove, NC.

Story
Sadie was around 10 months when I acquired her. Someone dropped her off in a cul-de-sac (assuming because she was a puppy and they weren’t ready), and she was fostered by a nice family that was allergic to her for a couple months. She was posted on Facebook through mutual friends and I fell in love with her but they were ready to take her to a shelter. With her face, the shelter said if she wasn’t adopted within a week she’d be put down. I didn’t want that to happen. At the time I had a significant other and plenty of help, however circumstances have changed. I travel a lot for work and personal reasons, and no longer have the support I once did. She’s crate trained. Has a sensitive belly, but easily managed. She’s stubborn but an overall great dog. She could use better training, but she is good off a leash most times and buzz collar trained. She LOVES all other dogs, kids, and cats. Only has food aggression when it’s in her crate.

Story
Princess Elsa is a 2 year old Pitbull mix, 55 pounds. She is what we call a "velcro" dog. She wants to be in your lap, on your leg, never too far from her person. She sticks to you like glue. If you don't care about personal space, this is the dog for you. She is a bit overwhelmed here in the shelter and when she doesn't know what to do, she freezes in place, so we call her Elsa. Princess Elsa would benefit from basic obedience training. It's a great way to bond with your new dog and it gives a timid dog like her some much needed confidence. Elsa is looking for a patient person or family that can give her structure and love so she can learn that people are good. She is up to date on vaccines, has tested negative for heartworm disease and her adoption fee includes a voucher for the mandatory spay and microchip.
