She herself always has a smile on her face and loves to soak up attention from everyone she meets. Whether she’s outside playing or inside lounging on the couch, she loves to be where the people are. She’s doing wonderful in her current foster home with her two doggy foster brothers, a 95 lb cane corso mix and a 75 lb lab. She loves to cuddle with them as well as play with them in the backyard. She also has a cat foster brother who she gets along great with and even hangs out with him on the bed when he’s in the mood for cuddles. FREYA also loves to go on car rides and just take everything in. She would love to be your sidekick for every adventure that comes your way. She likes to talk to you and let you know what she’s thinking! Her little “ooowoo’s” are absolutely precious! She tends to talk to strangers as well , but it’s just her saying “Hello!”. She is crate trained and is used to being in her crate while her foster parent is gone. She is truly a one of a kind with a heart of gold. She’s an affectionate, fun loving, loyal girl just waiting for her new forever family to love. For an adoption application on FREYA click here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
This is Thor, he is around 3 years old, and he has 3 legs. I rescued him from the Humane Society about 1.5 years ago with my ex boyfriend. Unfortunately, our situation has changed and I need a new home for this guy. He is a sweetheart with a big head and big heart. Thor is the biggest snuggle bug ever, and loves to go on long walks. He always wants to be cuddled up next to you under the blanket and will be the best companion! Thor was found tied to a tree with a broken leg, he was brought into a kill shelter and that shelter placed him on a euthanasia list. The Humane Society picked him up and performed the surgery to amputate his leg and give him a long life!

Story
Niyha is a 2 year old pit mix who acts more like the lab and cattle dog found in her. She is around 60 pounds and is completely house broken and knows all of her basic commands. Niyha has been through two different training companies and went to swim lessons. She is an excellent walker (we use a harness) and protector of those she loves. Niyha LOVES to be outside and needs the freedom to roam and run. She will be outside in rain, snow, cold or heat. She is very prey driven and would do best in a home with a lot of land (even a farm). There are no behavior issues with her indoors, other than her trying to get outdoors. She is the smartest dog I have ever come across. Niyha is very agile and is able to jump over our 6 ft fence. She also has learned to open the front window and jump through the screen. She is a sweet but free spirit. I will not adopt her to just anyone, I do not want to get rid of my baby girl, but for her safety, I need to rehome her.

Hi, everyone!! My name is Kayla, did you know we're already friends & we haven't even met yet!?! Yup, I'm that kind of girl, I don't see the glass half-empty or half-full, I see it as FULL to the brim - with 🤩GLITTER!!!🤩I'm about 2 years old & a roly-poly 48 lbs, with an infectious grin & the sweetest spirit. I'm always up for a good time, but know my basic manners, I'm already house trained, crate trained, & leash trained. I see a car ride as the start of an epic adventure, but I'm learning to keep my excitement in check until we get where we're going. I adore toys of all kinds, & I'm figuring out that they aren't going anywhere & will be there later so I don't need to grab & run. I live with a calmer dog who doesn't have the same energy as I do, & I'm good at letting him do his thing while I do mine.I'm working on not getting too excited, I was kenneled for a long time & didn't always get enough exercise. They had said I had LOTS of energy when I was there, but I actually do best when I can find time to just relax along with a good dose of the right kind of exercise - my foster mom says I'm figuring out how to balance my energy. I can get too excited with games like fetch & tug right now, I'm working on settling down afterwards, so for now I'm doing more walks. I really care about pleasing my people, & I love food of all kinds, so that's a good start. I've enjoyed meeting kids when I'm out & about, but NO CATS!! Don't keep me waiting, get your application in & let's get the good life started!!DATCP#483538

Story
Meet Theodore Winston, "Theo" for short who came to Canine Cupids from Chicago where he was found wandering the streets. Theo was emaciated, scared and spent two months in the shelter where he became a volunteer favorite because of his sweet nature and handsome looks. Theo loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys the company of other dogs. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on weekly injections to help ease the pain. Theo needs to take it easy when he is playing, and walks should be not very long. Theo is a lover of sunbathing on his foster mom's patio. With his strong wiggly tail, he would not be suitable in a home with small children. If you are interested in Theo please fill out an application today!

Intake Reason: Surrendered due to not being good with the youngest childWeight: 62#Known with:· Cats: Lived with 6 yr old NM; Will chase and does not respect correction· Dogs: Lived with Malinois mix, lab mix, and chihuahua mix; does well in WCHS calm playgroups· Kids: Lived with kids ages 5, 11, 12, 13, 16 & 17 yr olds. Too mouthy with youngestHi, I'm Blue! I came to WCHS because I was too much for the youngest child in my home who happened to have Autism. I'm really a great boy, but I had a rough start to life. When my most recent owner got me, I had a limp. It turns out that I previously had a broken leg that healed on its own. I may walk a little funky from time to time and I should stay on joint supplements. I also wasn't exposed to a lot of things during the first 6 months of my life, so new things can be initially scary. I love to play, but I'm basically a big puppy still so sometimes I can get a little rough and mouthy. I do listen when told to stop by an adult, but little kids who are my size remind me of dog friends, so I don't quite get the difference. In my last home, there was a cat that I really enjoyed chasing when I got the chance. I don't understand why he didn't enjoy it as much as me which is why I ignored any of his corrections. I've lived with multiple other dogs and I think they're all great. It would be beneficial to have another dog in my home to help show me the ropes, but if I'm your one and only I'm sure to bond with you very quickly.#2

Story
Intake Reason: strayWeight: 83#Known with: ·Cats: unknown ·Dogs: did well with finder's small dogs ·Kids: unknown Salutations, my name is Darwin and I am a dude that enjoys exploring. Apparently, I wandered off for an adventure and misplaced my people. Luckily a very nice person found me and took me off the streets so I would be safe. They actually took care of me for several days while they looked for my humans but to no avail. While they had me, they noted that I did well with their small dogs, walked well on a leash and understand house-training. I am a mature and polite lad, so being gracious comes naturally to me. Eventually they brought me to WCHS where I could look for a new home. I am an affectionate boy but am probably a bit pudgy for your lap; I weigh about 83 pounds. Truth be told, it might be wise for me to lose a couple pounds by getting low impact exercise each day and eating a healthy diet. I am a sociable, tolerant and quiet guy who is calm and gentle. I am also friendly and loving; some of my best buds are humans. One of my favorite past times is snuggle time filled with cuddles and tender scratches. I know the cue for ‘sit' and do enjoy a tasty tidbit or words of praise for a job well done. I like to keep my brain busy so I hope we can play some games like hide ‘n seek or use a foraging mat to put my schnoz to work at mealtime. If you are looking for a well-mannered, mellow and debonair pup who is past all the craziness of a young whippersnapper, I may be the pooch you are searching for. I have a heart of gold and promise to be loyal to you forever; I am sure we can have a delightful life together.#1

Story
Franklin is available to be seen at his foster home. Please call the shelter at 262-677-4388 for that information.·Intake Reason: Transferred from MADACC·Weight: 65 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Plays rough but does well with dogs in foster home ·Kids: Unknown ·Personality: Outgoing / Likes to run in courtyard / gets overstimulated / affectionateYahoo, my name is Franklin and I am a high-octane lad who could use some guidance. I am hoping for an experienced person who is prepared to provide structure, exercise and training to help me be the best pooch ever. I was a stray at MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission) before I was transferred to WCHS. The kind folks at the shelter realized that I would do much better in a foster home where I would get a good routine and opportunities to play with lots of different pups to burn some energy every day. I am a tolerant dude and I need my mates to be somewhat tolerant of me because I am a rough player. I hope we can take some classes together so I can learn some manners and polite leash walking. I enjoy taking long walks but do pull a bit on the leash because I want to go, go, go; I also get excited and mischievous and play tug with the leash. I need to practice not jumping on people and settling down when I get hyper; my person will need to help me stay more tranquil before I get over-stimulated. I already know the cues for ‘sit', ‘down' and ‘shake/paw' and I hope to expand my repertoire of human words; I would do well with patient and positive training techniques. I will need plenty of physical and mental exercise every day; brain teaser toys and using a foraging mat at mealtime can help burn some of my abundant energy. I like to chase tennis balls and think fetch might be fun. I am playful and think it would be grand to play games and canine sports with you; I would be interested in any activity that we could share. I am an affectionate lad and adore people; I will happily snuggle up with you on the couch at the end of a day filled with exercise and playtime. Make arrangements to meet me at my foster home and I think you will be impressed with my dynamic brilliance.#2

Story
My name is Vinnie and I’m 70 pounds of pure love. I love snuggling my foster parents and mom says I’m a bed hog, whatever that is! My favorite activity is going for car rides; I'm an excellent co-pilot and give great directions to the treat store. Since I'm only 4 yrs old, I would love someone who would commit to continuing with my training. I'm an A+ student but since I get very excited around other dogs, I would prefer to be the only dog in the house and have all the lovin's for myself. I know sit, ask to go out for potties, and am working on my leash manners, but I am still fresh out of the shelter, so this is all new to me. My foster mom says it's probably best if I don't live with kiddos under the age of 12 or kitties because I don't know my own size. I dont get it, 70lbs is a perfect size lap dog! Most importantly, I need a forever family to hold my big, squishy face and get lots of kisses. I sure hope I can find you guys soon. XOXO Vinnie
