He’s a little clown who will make you smile every time you look at him.  He adores children and wants to play! He has a fierce bark, but immediately wants to make friends with anyone who comes in the door.  He still has his puppy energy.  He loves his rubber chew toys. Plays fetch and tug of war.  He is house-trained and trusted to be left uncrated throughout the day. He sits, and is fast learning other commands. He has gotten really good at walking on leash. That being said he does have basset hound in him so by instinct of his breed, he wants to pull once he gets on a track and needs to be reminded to “heel”. He does best with slow intro's to other dogs.  He’s going to be a great family dog, He's house trained and extremely smart with a goofball personality! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxMatzo aka Reggie, was adopted from the Auto show to a home with two female boxers, unfortunately they have decided he is too much.  He is a teenager who never got the proper training and needs a bully savvy owner who will tell him no!  He has gone to play groups at daycare and loves the boxers a little two much and is kind of trying to constantly engage. He went to doggy dycare and was also super excited to have friends to play with. 'OK with dog savvy cats' Matzo is a smart cookie as well; he already knows how to sit, lay down and shake. He is all set to make you deal with being his new best friend. He is learning his crate and that being home alone is ok, it is only for a little bit. At this time Matzo would do best in a home where his people are home more often than not- He is doing well with leash walking and is definitely a snuggler.  He is talkative when he plays and that is all boxer.Auto Show Alert: I was selected to attend the Auto Show to say hi and share a smile! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus tax Meet Josie: cuddle bug extraordinaire and certified Sweetie Pie. She is an inquisitive and enthusiastic youngster that is completely potty trained and knows her basic commands. She sleeps through the night in her kennel and loves climbing into bed for snuggles and extra snoozes after her morning potty break. To her credit, a kennel is not even necessary as this young lady is a responsible house guest who is left alone, unkenneled for several hours at a time and doesn’t cause any problems.   Josie is a very happy and curious girl who observes everything her humans do and is a wonderful companion that will keep you laughing. Her fosters love her because she has the perfect amount of energy: she keeps a great walking pace, enjoys playing fetch for short bursts of time, and is always prepared to settle down with you on the couch and snore by your side.   Ever the social butterfly, Josie loves playing and interacts wonderfully with all dogs and people at the dog park. Josie has displayed defensive behavior towards men when indoors, so her first few introductions should be made outside while she familiarizes herself with them. Once she is familiar with a man, she will cuddle up to him like they are the best of friends and treat him no differently than the women in her life. With a little bit of patience and understanding, her fear can be overcome with proper introductions.    Josie would do best in a house without shared walls because she takes her security patrols very seriously when she's home alone and likes to let everyone outside know that she's got her eye on them. She reserves this behavior for when she is alone and is generally very quiet when her people are home with her.  If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $300 plus taxHi!  My name is Jake, but my foster parents call me Jax, short for Jackson.  It’s hard to believe I am back up for adoption at my age, but it was a rough year after I became homeless due to no fault of my own and ended up in a shelter.  Fortunately, MARS transferred me to Minnesota and found me a foster home.  Since returning to home life, I have found a new spring in my step. Not only do I go up and down the stairs multiple times a day following my foster parents around, I also jump up on the couch to snuggle with my foster mom.  Once, I even shocked my parents by jumping up into the back of their SUV—I wanted to make sure they didn’t forget me at home!  Having my 2 foster brothers has really helped me adjust back to home life and remind me what it’s like to be a dog.  I get along with them well. We are all pretty chill and don’t really play, but we love to just hang out together.  I also like to meet other dogs while we are out on walks, but puppy energy does get annoying after a while.  I prefer dogs that are more chill like me and just want to sniff. While I may not have a lot of years left, I have a lot of love to fill whatever time I do have. In addition to being a snuggle monster, I love to give kisses. One of my favorite activities is just laying outside and soaking up the rays of sunshine, whether it’s on the deck or in the grass.  I also like to bark at the neighbors when they are out, but my foster mom is helping me to work on my manners. However, I am very good about just giving a single bark at the door when I want to be let in or out.  When I hang out inside, I especially love laying on soft areas, like the new plush carpet in the basement.  Sometimes I just flop down and roll around on it.  My foster parents get a kick out this and think I am a big goof ball.  I do get scared during thunderstorms, but I have medication that helps me with this now in addition to hanging out in the basement with the TV and fan on to block the loud thunderclaps.  I walk well on a leash but haven’t felt like going on the longer walks with my brothers lately and instead I prefer going on shorter walks by myself—sometimes they go a little fast for me. As you can see, I don’t need a lot from a forever home—just a nice place to sleep, a couple of meals a day, but especially someone to love me that I can love back.If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $350 plus taxHello to my future family! My name is Betty Boop and I am so excited to meet you! I recently had a litter of 11 puppies and am ready to begin life without them! Foster mom says I am the easiest foster dog she has ever had (and she’s had a lot!) and have the perfect temperament for one lucky family.   Now that the babies are gone (adopted or other fosters), my personality is really beginning to shine. I am a fun and frisky young lady (estimated around 1.5-2 years) and I always have a huge smile on my face. I currently live with three resident dogs (9 year old female Lab mix, 5 year old male Pittie mix, and 1 year old female Great Pyrenees mix). We also have one other foster, a 7 month old female Shepard mix. Foster mom is amazed at how calmly and quickly I was able to integrate with the other dogs. I know she appreciates that I don’t come in “hot,” but take my time to really get to know them before the playtime begins. When I am feeling super playful, I play with the younger dogs, but when I want to snuggle and cuddle, my go to is Henri (pittie mix).   We are working on some training, but I have been learning a lot from the resident dogs. I am potty trained and can either hold it forever or will run to any door that leads outside. I am very regular in my potty habits! I am also comfortable in a kennel. I am not kenneled much here since I have earned free roaming rights, but I do still eat in my kennel and am kenneled when foster mom leaves the house. We have worked a lot on impulse control, and since I’ve been here, I now take treats nicely from a sit, wait at the door to be invited in/out, sit and wait for food, and have stopped jumping (99% of the time). I have a pretty good sit, down, and leave it’s, and am working on a few other things. It helps that my foster mom is a professional dog trainer and has been super patient with my learning process. When in doubt, a quick “uh uh” will stop me and get my attention.   I absolutely LOVE toys. Seriously…any toy! My favorites are rope toys and taking the stuffing out of stuffed toys. I play a lot of tug with rope toys with the other dogs or with foster mom. Toys that keep me occupied are things like large nylabones, deer antlers and rope toys. I am also good at sharing toys, and don’t show any signs of guarding toys (or food or anything…now that the puppies are gone). Foster mom says I am the perfect candidate for a Super Chewer Bark Box!  I love people! I will give you a big smile and a wiggle butt and be your best friend after a few treats as a hello. Foster mom says I am a master cuddler and very person focused. Even while playing with the other dogs, if foster mom leaves the room, I am going to follow her to make sure I don’t miss out! I don’t have any signs of separation anxiety…I just like to be near my human(s). In the beginning I would lay on top of her as much as possible, but now I have learned to snuggle at the side or cuddle in a dog bed near her.   I will admit that I am being treated for heartworm. Luckily, we caught it early, so I don’t exhibit any signs. I am currently on medications and have my game plan all scheduled out! I am also scheduled for my spay in early August. Foster mom says the care is easy as long as the directions are followed, and that I am still the same loveable gal!   Are you the family for me? Maybe you just want the ultimate cuddler (oh yeah, I love the cuddles!). I always have a happy face for my human, and just love to be near you! Foster mom says that she can tell that I just want to please the humans…get the cuddles…and eat all the treats! I would do great with any family, with or without other dogs. Fill out an app to meet me…you won’t be disappointed!   * I did test positive for heartworm and will be receiving treatment provided by MARS to live a long healthy life.   *A dog with Heartworms is not directly contagious to other animals. Heartworms are transmitted by an infected mosquito.    If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption.
