Story
River is a smart, housebroken, crate trained, and food motivated approx one year old mix.. His foster home has been working on leash skills and he already knows several basic commands. He would do fantastic with a single young adult or child-free couple who have some experience with dogs already and can continue to build on the foundation they have been working on. He is young and has a lot to learn. River’s ideal home has: A dog his size that will play with him and help him learn doggy social skills, his foster home only has small old pups and he wants them to play so badly. A fenced in yard for zoomies and games of fetch (Eventually he might even learn to bring the ball back!) He’s never attempted to escape the yard but a 6’ tall fence is recommended so he’s never tempted. He can leap clear over the couch… Maybe agility training is in his future! No small kids - he is fostered with several kids, as young as 4 years old, but is very much a puppy at heart does not seem to realize his own size and strength and can still be a bit unpredictable. Lots of durable toys like Kongs and Benebones available. He LOVES to chew on toys but does a really good job only chewing what he’s allowed too. Stuffed animals with squeakers are a blast for him - albeit very short lived!

Story
This guy. He's been through the MOST. He was dragged out of his yard by another dog in a violent fashion, barely making it out alive. Taken to urgent care, he was handed over to animal control after his treatment. He was fighting for his life. Because of what he looked like, no other rescue wanted this guy, but we couldn't let him die after he just fought so hard to live! Luckily, a very knowledgable foster home said she would take him til he healed and work on his medical needs. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and HW-. He is an amazing soul and good boy. We hope you will consider him if your dog needs a dog - he really wants to play with other dogs! Another dog can also be a mentor to him and show him that the world isn't so scary, that there are good people in it! Older kids are fine in a home for Stanley. Story
(01/23/2022) Pringles has immense love to give to her human friends. She loves kids!  She was shy at first but is now generous with tail wags, jumping around in a circle and random kisses. Are you a family looking for a furry 4-legged family member? Then please consider sweet Pringles! Though her origin story wasn’t one of compassion or care, she relishes in all of the love and attention now! She is so sweet. She is done good with potty training with her foster family; keep her a schedule and she is good to go. She is quiet (haven't heard her bark yet). Pringles is also super smart. With her love of food, she is treat motivated to learn and please her family. Plus, any kind of praise, love and attention go a long way. She will beam with happiness and pride! She really trains fast; her leash walks have gotten so much easier so quickly! She is a tiny pup at a little over 40 lbs, so a really great size! Not only does Pringles love Pringles, she really loves food in general; she loves to eat! She may get closer to the 50 mark as her final weight. She has shown some a little sass at random times to the foster family's dog (also a female) but could be corrected with time, patience, and training. Pringles would probably be best as an only dog. She is also a great sleeper. Pringle loves being with her people and would rather be inside with you than running around outside. For that reason, she does not require a fenced in yard and would be a good choice for apartment or condo living (as mentioned, she is a quite girl, too). She is amazing; she has soooooo much love and affection to give and will shower you with her caring; she deserves the love she gives.  The question that is often asked; "Why Pringles you ask? Was she really named after the chip??" Yep, just like the chips! She had some Pringles at the shelter and was a favorite of the staff, so her nickname was kept. As part of Pringles’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Pringles, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##1950588##

Story
Name / Breed / Age: Sid / Terrier Mix / 1 year old Personality Traits: Friendly, Shy at First, Energetic, Loves the Outdoors, Quiet, Quick Learner Likes / Dislikes: Likes being outside, trail walks, treats, and spending time with family. No dislikes yet! Health and Behavior History: Sid has recovered fully from surgery and is now healthy. He is working on his manners, walks well on a leash, and sleeps through the night without waking anyone up. He is shy with new people but warms up quickly. He gets along well with other dogs in playgroups and could enjoy having a sibling around his size, though he'd also be happy as the only pet. He is up to date on all shots and is neutered! Hello, I’m Sid! I am a handsome 1-year-old 40lb terrier mix. I found myself at PIPS after recovering from surgery but I am all healed and ready to find my forever family! I love to be outside and take trail walks with my Foster mom and walk on a leash without hardly ever pulling. I am working on my manners and work even harder when treats are involved! I would rather be with my family than in a crate but will settle down in my crate after a few minutes when necessary. I sleep through the night without waking my family up and hardly ever bark. I am still young and sometimes have extra energy, but nothing a good walk can’t remedy. I am a little shy when meeting new people but, as long as they greet me slowly, I am their friend in no time. I have gotten along with other dogs in playgroups and might like a brother or sister that is around my size, but would be fine having you all to myself. Do I sound like the perfect friend for you? ##2145308##

Story
Introducing Stripes, a gentle soul with a heart as warm as her beautiful tan and black coat. This sweet Boxer/Labrador mix weighs 58 pounds and is on a journey to gain a bit more, with lots of love and treats along the way. A recent mama, Stripes has all the nurturing qualities you'd dream of in a companion-timid yet incredibly sweet; she's a testament to the power of gentle reassurance. Stripes's demeanor is as soft as her gaze, making her the perfect addition to a calm, loving home that can provide the security and affection she deserves. She does well in the company of other dogs but is clearly a people dog, and focuses immediately on those around her and leans in for all she can get. She has medium energy level and the most irresistible of mugs around! Step into Stripes's life and watch as she beautifully blends into yours. If you're ready to earn her trust and love, submit your adoption request today-Stripes is waiting to paint a brighter future with you! *Weekend Host feedback: "She wants to do anything to please her human. She's crate and potty trained. She loves to chase balls (getting her to bring them back is a work in progress) and play hide and seek". Recent Weekend Host commented: "Stripes did great with our other 2 dogs. " "She seems housetrained. At least, she did not have any accidents. " "No real issues with her crate. We coaxed her in with treats. The first night she barked a bit, but then settled down." "Stripes can be pretty strong on the leash. She seems fairly food motivated and we were able to work on some of that this weekend. She got better on the leash during the walks around our house." "She rides well in the car. " " She took to me right away (the only female in the house), but was really slow to warm up to my husband and 2 teen boys. " "Her demeanor is puppy-ish without the destructive behavior. She loved chewing on nylabones, kongs (filled or not), playing fetch and even liked getting in the lake. " "Overall, Stripes is a big, slobbery love bug who thinks she should be a lap dog (lol)."

Story
The name harkens to a fun stage in life and Pigtails promises to do the same for you in your everyday life. Pigtails is a boxer mix younger adult who weighs about 53 lbs full grown. His coloring is SO handsome and his attitude makes him even that much more attractive if that is possible? We're not sure. Pigtails is fun, active and all of the things a younger adult should be. While he has a good energy level and loves to play, romp, roam and stroll, he is equally good in his crate and patient for meals and time outside. Pigtails would love to join an active family and could settle in with other dogs and would do great with a playmate, both human and canine alike. Pigtails doesn't have enough hair for much styling but he has lots of spunk and zest for life and will therefore be a most wonderful addition to your family!
