Story
Meet Memphis. This beautiful red Australian Cattle dog came in as a stray and was not claimed. Since coming to the shelter, he has started to really warm up and is happy, friendly guy. He has done well with the dogs that he has met, has a constant tail wag, and is good on leash. Memphis should not go to a home with poultry/birds as he does chase them but if you are looking for a young, active companion - come meet Memphis! These are high energy, working breeds so researching before meeting is advised but in the right home, they are amazing companions.

Story
Cattle dog mix, femaleLola is an Australian Cattle Dog, around 2-3 years old.  She and Barney are a bonded pair and need to be adopted out together.  According to their finder / foster, they are stellar houseguests. When they’re not playing with each other, they love to settle in for naps. Barney and Lola are housetrained, crate trained, and would do best in a calm and quiet home.  Both are microchipped and UTD on vaccines. Barney is neutered and Lola has an upcoming spay appointment Feb 5.   More photos, video and updates:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1299398481021803&type=3   Lola and Barney are in Visalia.   Interested in Lola and Barney?  Please complete an application at: http://bit.ly/CCHDR_AppJanuary 26, 2025, 6:39 pm

Story
Cattle dog mix puppy, femalePoppy came in ready to fight the world! That was what she had been doing to survive her 12 hellish weeks on earth before we met. Only 3 months old... Poppy sunk her teeth in me first thing, when I reached into her crate. Shocked, surprised and saddened us greatly. This tiny puppy was defending her life. Poppy and her brother Casper were trapped by rescue, in Bakersfield. They had to get off this property before the same fate that her mother and siblings met, met Poppy and Casper. This situation was as sad as it gets. Multiple dogs of all ages, trying to survive on a bag or two of food thrown out by people who tried.  If any of them caused enough trouble to be noticed, they were promptly eliminated. Desperate situation. We took these two survivors. Siblings have different personalities and Casper was ahead of the game from the start. Although he too, had no bite inhibition, he soon learned he didn't have to use his only weapon anymore. He was adopted only  a month or so later.  Poppy took much longer to trust. Using my best helper dogs saved us all. If I had my dogs, I had Poppy.  Poppy now walks perfectly on a leash! Harder to teach than off leash recall! She comes running to her name, or like a bullet to the coaches whistle.  Very comfortable in a crate and goes right to hers at night. Her security. Otherwise while in the house, she's always in a dog bed, with her toys gathered around her! She doesn't chew up her plush toys, she cherishes them. She makes mincemeat out of a cow hoof! Well, she tries. This little girl will just crack you up all the time!  Watching Poppy navigate a life NOT under siege has been our privilege.  But, it is time we look for a home of her own, with other dog friends. We have to keep moving here. Poppy has us until she doesn't need us anymore. Lets see what that looks like! https://forms.wix.com/f/7099015951416295628 Poppy is a 7 month old (as of 2/1/25) Cattle Dog mix.  She has been at the rescue since she and her brother were found as very young puppies living in a field with a number of feral dogs.  Poppy has grown into her own.  She is great with the other, younger, puppies that have come through the rescue.  Poppy is housebroken, and very good about not chewing on anything except her favorite cow hoofs!  She will also play with stuffed toys and not destroy them.  She is great on and off leash   Poppy is not an entry level puppy! She needs a savvy adopter, with a dog or more, (she is great in a pack!), someone who understands dog behavior, especially herding dogs. And one who will just saturate Poppy with a social life of people and noise.   More photos and updates: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1318450495783268&type=3   Interested in Poppy?  Please complete an application at: http://bit.ly/CCHDR_AppFebruary 6, 2025, 3:35 pm
