Story
Dexter / Male / Approx 2 years / 58 lbs / Australian Cattle Dog Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / Good with Cats / Medium-Low Energy / From Tennessee / Fostered in Georgetown ** Follow Dexter's journey on Instagram: @gracies_fosters ** Meet Dexter! This handsome boy is full of joy and never-ending affection. His fosters describe him as happy, loving and gentle. Giving people hugs and kisses is one of his favourite things. He also loves to walk and cuddle up on the couch. Dexter wants to be part of whatever is happening with his humans whether it is walking, or lounging at home. Dexter is very affectionate, he likes to stick close to his trusted humans. He loves to give hugs and kisses and is so happy to greet you when you come home. True to his breed, Dexter is not always great at first impressions. He may occasionally take time to warm up, take it slow, and have time to observe and sniff. Dexter has lived with children ages 7 -17 and treated them the same as the adults. To Dexter, his humans are the best and he loves to play and cuddle with them all. While in foster care, Dexter became very sick and received a diagnosis of megaesophagus. He is feeling much better now but his diagnosis comes with some long-term care. Megaesophagus means that Dexter’s body doesn’t push food into his stomach the way it should. He is currently stable on medication and a regime of 3 meals per day fed while he is in an elevated position. Small amounts of regurgitation can be common for dogs with this condition and their health should be monitored. The use of a Bailey Chair for feeding is the standard for dogs with this condition and Dexter is working on becoming comfortable sitting in it. Dexter’s ideal home would be with a loving family who is ready for endless kisses and has a willingness to commit to his healthcare. He is young and enjoys a daily walk with a few chances for potty breaks throughout the day. If given proper exercise he could do well in any living arrangement. Although brief, having access to parks and greenspace will help him get his zoomies out. As a young dog, he is medium to low energy. He currently has one walk per day, as well as time outside to potty. Dexter does great on a leash. He loves to explore the outdoors and take in all the smells. Dexter is also a fan of fetch, tug, puzzle toys and chew toys but his favourite activity of all is receiving pets and attention. Since arriving Dexter has been working hard on his training. He loves food and is very clever, so it makes him fun to teach. He has good house manners and can be trusted alone. Dexter is housetrained. His new family should be prepared to continue his training. Dexter currently lives with other dogs and loves their company. He spends his days with them taking walks, sharing toys and cuddling. A home with another dog would be great for Dexter, but if given opportunities to socialize he would be ok as a solo pet. He has also lived with a cat and does well, both usually just keeping to themselves. If you are looking for a fun-loving companion, Dexter is your guy. He has so much love to give and will brighten up your home. If you’re interested in adopting Dexter, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Dexter’s adoption fee is $250. PLEASE READ KALEB’S BIO IN DETAIL TO ENSURE THAT HE WILL BE A GOOD FIT FOR YOU AND YOUR LIFESTYLE BEORE APPLYING. PEASE NOTE: KALEB IS BEING FOSTERED IN THE TORONTO, ON AREA We at All Paws Matter believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. This is now a requirement in our adoption process. Proof of training classes for puppies specifically is required before adoption. NAME: Kaleb Age: 5 years Breed: Mexi-Mix Sex: Male Weight: 40 lbs Location: TORONTO, ON Adoption fee: $600.00 Spayed/Neutered: Yes Leash trained: Work in progress House trained: Yes Kids/Cats/Dogs: Yes - female dogs, no - cats, children 5+ Vetting: Up to date on all vaccination, sterilized, microchipped, 4dx tested: negative for Heart worm. Currently on flea/tick/heart worm prevention, dewormed and vet checked before arriving. Medical Issues: Front leg amputation Comes with 4 weeks free pet insurance (after initial vet visit) Don’t even consider underestimating this handsome devil because he happens to be one limb short. He’s a truly one-of-a-kind wunderdog who has no intention of slowing you down! Kaleb is the definition of a “good boy”, and you’ll find yourself repeating that to him again and again as he gazes up at you with his gentle eyes. Equal parts lazy and crazy, Kaleb loves to snuggle up on the couch or in his bed for hours, but also needs enough mental and physical stimulation through the day to get comfy for chill time. Nicknamed “KK” for “Kangaroo Kaleb”, this guys walk is more like a hippity hop, and melts the hearts of every person he passes on strolls, runs or hikes- he loves it all! One thing to consider however, is that due to his endless curiosity and A+ sniffer, he does need a little help from someone who is willing to work along side him in practising some structure and boundaries while walking. He may have the face of a CEO, but Kaleb still needs to learn that he is NOT the boss on walks. That being said, he loves discovering that he doesn’t have to make any of the decisions inside the home, and enjoys time spent learning boundaries and commands, and never confuses where the bathroom is (outside!). KK is the life of the party and has never met a human he didn’t like. He loves kids and company of all ages (and boy do they love him back), and knows exactly what is expected of him when given the command to “be gentle”. Being the heartstopper that he is, K is also quite fond of the ladies and loves play time with most female dogs- with a proper introduction, of course! In true gentleman fashion, he tends to be quite submissive to female dogs, and can become nervous and uncomfortable around overly dominant dogs who play a little too hard. We love boundaries! With male dogs, however, there seems to be a bit of a history there and he showns warning signs with certain males, so that avenue has not been tested extensively. He has met some cats and doesn’t seem to have any intense prey drive, but with any dog who grew up in the streets, it’s important to stay cautious when introducing smaller animals. This special boy is a dog who wants to live life WITH you- take him on long car rides, to the family gathering, or the cabin- just don’t take him in an elevator! (They’re spooky, can you blame him?) He would love a house with a yard, but if you’re active he doesn’t necessarily need it. More than anything he just needs a home that wants to love him forever in the way he deserves, and a person or a family who is willing to put in the effort to grow him, and reap the rewards of a life with an absolutely incredible dog. If you feel you would be the right fit for Kaleb, please fill out an adoption application at https://www.allpawsmatter.ca/apply-to-adopt/ All APM dogs are UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed, Heart worm (4dx snap) tested and arrive with a health certificate. They come to adopter with a harness, a collar and two leashes for safety. NOTE: The above description is relevant to this dog in its current and previous setting. Home changes and adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim or suggest that our dogs are hypo-allergenic or that they shed/do not shed. BREED DISCLAIMER: We are never sure of the breed of our dogs since they arrive off the streets or shelters. It is a guess only!

Story
ORRIEOrrie's story starts with a young woman with big dreams, who started a dog rescue full of promise, on a ranch she rented with her husband, in the middle of rural Nowheresville, Texas. They pulled dogs from the same high-kill shelter we do, and brought them to the property to wait to be adopted. For a while the pace of adoptions was brisk, and most dogs didn't spend more than a few weeks there. From the outside, they seemed to be a perfect couple fully immersed in rescue...until one day things fell apart, and the woman packed up and split, leaving her husband behind to look after and rehome over 30 newly rescued shelter dogs. Two of those dogs, a heeler female and a Great Pyrenees/lab mix male, both still intact, were accidentally put into the same dog run. Unsurprisingly, several weeks later, the number of dogs on the property grew by 11 blond, speckled puppies. One of them was Orrie (first dubbed Guinness). Soon after that, we were asked to take on the support all those dogs and find them homes. Of course we said yes.We wish we could say we immediately took that young family out of the yard and put them into a warm and loving foster home, but we didn't have one of those for 11 growing puppies. This is the reality of dog rescue. At the time, we already had over 40 dogs in our care. In one fell swoop, we instantly doubled our roster -- just as adoptions were grinding to a standstill all over the world as COVID lockdowns were ending and millions of people were going back into the office for workdays, many of them giving up the dogs they'd adopted during the pandemic. Thus this family of puppies spent the first few months of their lives playing by themselves in their quiet, rural yard, venturing out into the world only to go to the vet for their vaccines. They had no one to expose them to the sights and sounds of suburban life, no one to take them out on leash walks to learn to navigate busy sidewalks, no one to reassure them when they were scared. Orrie was one of the first of the litter to be adopted and went straight from the ranch in Texas to his new home in the middle a bustling Ontario town.We know now that this was not a good match for our little Orrie. His lovely new family gave him loads of time and space to settle in, letting him determine what boundaries he was ready to cross. He warmed up to the children and got comfortable in the home. They did research, learned his triggers, hired a trainer, changed their routine...for 2 years they did everything reasonable to help him overcome his deep-seated fearfulness. Recently Orrie made it clear that he's reached his limit and has had enough. He just hates living in town, hates it with every fibre of his being. He is BEGGING not to be forced to go on walks on streets full of things that terrify him. Every time he goes out the front door, he's ready to have a breakdown. He is timid, but a goofy guy nonetheless! He loves to be close to his people, playing tug or chasing a ball, or snuggling at the end of a day of fun. Hes leash trained and likes to hike in quiet places, away from city noises. Hes very food motivated and loves to learn new tricks and show off the ones he knows. He will thrive in a home in the country or quiet neighbourhood, away from busy roads and noisy parks or playgrounds.Name: OrrieWeight: ~ 50 LbsGender: Male, NeuteredBreed: Heeler XColour: CreamMedical (past and present) & HW Status: Healthy, Dewormed, UTD on vaccinesGood with adults: YesGood with kids: Yes, with a slow introductionGood with dogs: Yes, with a slow introductionGood with cats: Highly doubtfulHouse trained: YesCrate trained: YesCrate aggressive: NoFood aggressive: NoLeash trained: YesEnergy level: Medium to highSuitable for an apartment: NoCan be handled: YesBarker: Not really
