Hello, Canada! My name is Barbie and I just arrived in Vancouver on July 7 2024!

I am so happy and excited to have arrived in Vancouver Canada! I've been settling in at my foster's home who say I am super adoptable! I am so sweet and gentle and friendly. In less than a week, I am housetrained and am learning the commands of "come" and "sit". I am adaptable, curious, and engaged. A couple of times, when dogs were being bully-ish toward me, I stayed centered, not aggressive or submissive. Oh yes - I am super cuddly, even all night long if you want.
I've made friends with local dogs and have had great times running off-leash in fenced areas. Luck came my way with the opportunity to come here, even though I do not have a permanent home yet. Everyone seems hopeful that someone will fall in love with me soon, so I can officially start my new life! Just look at my eyes-- one blue, one brown (no cause for concern, I am not blind, I was born with heterochromia)!
From my gentle nature it's hard to tell that I had a rough start in life. When I was young I had a litter of puppies who were stolen from me when they were only around a month old-- way too soon. About 4 months later I was brought to a shelter, and was depressed, grieving their absence. As I was shown kindness from people at the shelter, I forged ahead beginning to love and trust again, but I still have my sad days. I've shown a special affinity towards smaller dogs/breeds, possibly because I miss my babies and know the little ones require a gentler approach from me.
I lived in the shelter for almost 1.5 years, and really didn't like it there. While I made a lot of friends at the shelter, I never felt at ease in the cage. I much prefer snuggling on a comfy couch or bed. I am very friendly with both people and dogs! I can be cautious at first, but when shown kindness I will be smiling and playing quickly!I have such a spirit in me! Running off leash at the dog park has been so much fun.I can’t wait to show you my great personality, despite my sad past. I really want a special human(s) companion to cozy up to! Being in a home with other dogs and/or a yard to play in would be so wonderful!
Energy Level: moderateI get along with:Dogs: YesCats: Have had limited interactions. No prey drive, mostly cautiously curious and afraid when being hissed at.Kids: So far so good! I've met a few in Vancouver and have accepted pets, hugs, and have ever-so-gently taken treats from their hands.
Fears: Some sudden/unexpected fast movements can spook me. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.Training: Shows promise in ability and willingness to learn. Will take time and patience.Leash skills: It's all new! Barbie doesn't pull on leash, walks calmly, accepts harness, loves walks.House trained: No accidents at foster home.

My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada.

After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
[MID-EAST DOGS] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
