Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. MYRTLE was saved from being shot on the streets of Oman by an amazing organization Muscat Dog Adoption. She along with her 7 friends were flown into JFK where they were cleared the CDC and then picked up and transported back to Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 5 April 2024 Myrtle is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 2 July 2022 and at the time of transport weighed around 30 pounds. Mixed breed dogs in Oman are referred to as Omani Wadi Dogs, with most of them being Saluki mixes. Myrtle is a sweet, gentle, affectionate girl who weighs just 30 pounds but do not let her slight frame fool you. When she is familiar in her surroundings, she is confident and loves to keep her fellow Omani kennel mates in check. She is very loving and takes treats very gently after she has checked it out for 10 minutes to be sure you are not trying to poison her lol. She is good with other dogs, but can be choosy who she wants to share with, not in an aggressive way at all but she knows who she wants to be friends. She is smart, loving affectionate and will need an active life and a family that understands the need of the sighthound and be able to provide the lifestyle that she needs and deserves. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue    YouTube channel    and    photo albums on our Facebook page   to see a LOT of pictures and videos. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. Myrtle is located at the rescue in Sebec Maine and is available for a reduced adoption fee of $150. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application. https://giveadogahome-rescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=5838 HOUSE TRAINED - All of our dogs are located in the kennel building so we are not able to say if a dog is house-trained, however, they do have access and use the dog door to access their run, play area 24/7. FOOD - We feed a variety of high quality brands and flavors including, chicken, turkey, beef, lamb and fish generally alternated daily. CATS - As the dogs are in the kennels, we are not able to say how they are with cats. She has an estimated date of birth of 7 February 2022 and at the time of transport weighed around 33 pounds. Mixed breed dogs in Oman are referred to as Omani Wadi Dogs, with most of them being Saluki mixes Bellatrix is a sweet, gentle, fragile girl, but one that takes no pushing around from the other dogs. She shares a kennel with Alma-Boy and Chip a young cattle dog pup and she keeps them in check. She likes to bark with the other dogs letting them know that she is in charge, she is adorable. She is gentle and sweet and although good with other dogs she can be a bit choosy of who she wants to share company with. Bellatrix is very affectionate and would be a great snuggle companion. Like the sighthound breeds, she is active, but it is more in burst of energy, she will definitely need someone who can give her that chance to run and burn off and to play with the dogs she wants to be friends with. Story
Although Ezra is a sweet dog, he is reactive with dogs and, since his owner is moving to a situation that would necessitate Ezra being around other dogs, the tough decision was made to locate a new home for him. Ezra needs a human companion (or companions) who do not have other dogs in their home. Since Ezra currently has a fenced yard, a fenced yard would be ideal. Located in GA, Ezra’s owners will drive a significant distance to place him in a loving, forever home. Six-years-old and weighing about thirty pounds, Ezra is believed to be an Italian Greyhound/Bulldog, with his owner indicating that “the Italian Greyhound comes through in a lot of his mannerisms as well as those long, skinny legs.” This guy is “goofy, shy sometimes, and food motivated.” He loves people and will “happily chill out with them.” His activity level is low – “he has a spurt of energy once a day and one walk is enough to wear him out.” Ezra is house trained (potties in a fenced yard and on walks) and is accident-free; doesn’t pull significantly on-leash unless he views another dog; is crate trained, but is given free roam of the house when left alone; only tends to bark when someone is at the door or he views a dog; likes to wear sweaters and jackets; and loves car rides. He is reactive with other dogs, but other than that is very relaxed and loving. Ideally, Ezra’s new person will continue to work with him so that he can walk calmly past other dogs; when on-leash and he views another dog “he is reactive (fur stands up, low growl, pulls), but it’s made worse if that dog barks at him (then Ezra barks and pulls hard).” Due to Ezra’s on-leash reactivity, he has only been off-leash with a relative’s dog and the owner “had to intervene to stop a fight twice. Once was food-related (started by Ezra) and the other was retaliation against Ezra’s territorial behaviors (started by the other dog).” Italian Greyhound Place would be glad to provide information on desensitization and counter-conditioning which can be a very effective approach. Ezra’s food motivation will be of benefit here! If you have questions about Ezra or think he could be the canine companion for you, please contact Italian Greyhound Place.
