My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Samson is a fun loving boy and has lots of energy when taken to the play yard, he can be a bit jumpy at first when put on a leash and may try to nip at the leash itself, so a harness may be a better option for this goofy guy. He truly is a gentle giant and loves to run around, he is very respectful towards his toys and bedding and will often be found laying on the cot inside of his kennel. Samson was surrendered with another dog who was a female and lived alongside her, but a meet and greet is required for other dogs. He is not fond of cats and would need to be in a home without a feline companion. Samson is protective of his family, adults and children alike. Because of his large stature and occasional jumpiness, he would be best in a home with kids over the age of 15. Samson is also a great listener and may be easy to train, no matter what anyone says about old dogs. He loves treats but can sometimes be a bit clumsy and knock his food bowl over.

More about this shelter

New Hope Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization servicing Volusia County Florida since 1955.
Our policy is no-kill. We will NOT euthanize an animal to make room or to reduce pet overpopulation. “adoptable” means an animal is healthy and well-adjusted, not ill or injured, and can be safely made available to the public for adoption. We reserve the right to refuse admission due to space availability, or if the animal is dangerous, in poor health, or otherwise deemed un-adoptable.
