My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name's Hondo! I was once a wandering soul out there as a stray, and let me tell you, it was a scary world! I ended up at the dog pound, scared and in rough shape with some cuts and scrapes, but thankfully, I found my way to this rescue. Now, I’m all ready to find my forever family, and I can’t wait to meet you!

I’m about 6 years old, and while I may have been a little nervous when I first arrived (new things can be a bit scary!), I’ve since found my groove, and my true personality is shining through! I’m sweet, love to cuddle, and I give the best kisses. I may need a bit of time to warm up to new people or environments, but once I do, I’m your loyal buddy!

I’m active, too! My foster says I’m full of energy and can keep up with plenty of walks, so an active owner who can take me on daily walks and give me time to play is exactly what I need. I love my walks, and after we go out, I’m always ready to play some more—whether it’s tossing my lambchop toy around or running around the house. I get so much joy from being active! I also walk great on a leash!

When it comes to other dogs, I’m a bit more selective. I can be a little overwhelming in large groups or with other dogs that have a different energy than mine, and I’ve stirred the pot a bit at the rescue. I’ve been doing well with other dogs in my foster home, but I think I’d do best as the only dog in my forever home or with a dog that can match my energy level. I’m just a guy who likes things on my own terms sometimes!

Another thing to keep in mind is that I’m not the best fit for a home with young children. I can be a little reactive to new people, so a calm, adult home would be ideal for me. I just need a little more space and patience to really feel comfortable in new situations.

But, let me tell you, when I’m comfortable, I’m a total sweetie pie. I’m loyal, loving, and full of spunk. I’m also a velcro-pug who loves being near you. I’ll want to curl up on the bed and snuggle as much as I can, and I’ll always be by your side. I’d be perfect for someone who’s retired but loves staying active, or maybe someone who works from home and can give me all the attention I crave. I’ve shown a bit of separation anxiety, so I’ll need a patient family who can help me feel secure when you're away. I’ll need someone who can stick with me while I settle in, especially since I get a little anxious when left alone for long periods.

So, if you're looking for a snuggly, active, and super loving buddy who knows exactly what he wants, I'm your guy! Please inquire about me today!

Love, Hondo!

More about this rescue

Pug Nation Rescue of Los Angeles is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of abandoned, neglected, unwanted, displaced, and abused pugs. Our goal is to find every homeless pug a forever home; if we cannot do that, we pledge to provide a comfortable and loving place for sick or unwanted pugs to live out their lives. Our Board of five and numerous volunteers are passionate about Pug Rescue and live by our motto of “One Pug at a Time”. We feel that through our efforts we can change many of these forgotten Pug’s lives. In order to find our Pugs a home as soon as possible, we hold at least three adoption fairs a month and also organize a number of fundraising events, including the annual Pugtacular festival and Legendary Bingo at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood. These events and on-line fundraising have provided the money to help pay for vet treatments, medicine and loving care at our Pug Station. We rely on the generosity of our supporters through donations and participation in our fundraising activities. If you would like to make a donation, find out about the next event, become a volunteer, foster, or adopt your own rescue pug, you are in the right place! You can also follow us on Facebook and twitter, there is always something going on and new pugs needing your help.
