My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shayla is a bold, independent feline who knows exactly what she wants, and she's not afraid to let you know it. Being her sassy self that she is, she's looking for someone who appreciates a strong, confident woman but is mellow to balance her sass. A lover of peace and quiet, Shayla has spent her life in a calm, easygoing home, and she prefers it that way. She can quickly become overstimulated by too much noise, movement, or excessive petting. (I know, what a diva) So she's seeking an adult-only, animal free home, where she can be the boss of her domain and have her boundaries respected. Once she settles in though, she's all about enjoying some cozy lap time with her special person and chasing her toy mice. Shayla isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for those that see her for the Queen she is, she warms a special place in your heart!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
