My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $245 in pledges for the rescue that pulls **
**EXTENDED**

Jayeda ACCT-A-210447 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Jayeda must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER  by THURSDAY, JANUARY 30TH at 10AM. Should Jayeda’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Meet Jayeda, a gentle and reserved pup who’s navigating her way through the shelter environment with quiet courage. Found as a stray on January 3rd, she’s adjusting to her new surroundings but shows glimpses of her affectionate personality to those who give her time and patience. Jayeda warms up with a gentle approach. She’ll softly wag her tail, offer sweet sniffs, and even hop into a trusted lap for comfort and kisses. While she’s still nervous with unexpected touches or new experiences, her tolerance and desire for affection are evident. Jayeda is looking for a home without children under the age of 15. She hasn’t been a fan of meeting other dogs while at the shelter, so if you do have any other dogs in the home, please bring them along for a meet. Due to her length of stay, Jayeda is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
Per volunteer 1/21: Jayeda has a heart of gold and really has the sweetest soul. She was so gentle from leashing to walking and going back into her kennel. Having a little break from ISO because of her doggy cold was just what she needed to show what a sweet girl she is.

Per her walksheet, there were no concerns on her walks between 1/16 and 1/21. She was noted to be medium-high energy.

Per volunteer 1/11: Sweet, potty break, easy to leash and walk.

Per staff 1/11: Took Jayeda out with a volunteer. She presented socially in kennel and was easy to leash and lead out of kennel. She walked nicely on leash and once in the yard, she relieved herself (appears housebroken) and solicited attention from both the volunteer and I. She allowed all handling and was easy to work with.

Per volunteer 1/10: Sweet girl.

Per staff 1/10: Very reactive to other dogs at fence.

Per staff 1/9: Jayeda wasn't the biggest fan of dogs during her dog meets today. We tried a handful of dogs to see if she would do better with different dogs, but this didn't really help. With her first meet she was very stiff and growled when they got face to face. We tried another dog and as soon as Jayeda saw the other dog she froze, fixated, her tail went straight out and stiff, hackles came up, and she stalked over to the other dog slowly. Jayeda began growling when they got face to face and the other dog began to react in turn; growling, baring teeth, lunging. The third dog we tried a walk along, but Jayeda remained very stiff and would jump at the other dog when they got close. None of the dogs we introduced felt comfortable around Jayeda due to her body language.

Per staff 1/8: Well behaved, doesn’t pull.

Per staff 1/6: Day trip, did great. Non-reactive passing another dog in kennels.

Per volunteer 1/5: Ignored dogs through fence for the most part, but hard barked when too close. Very sweet girl, housetrained, can be jumpy.

Per volunteer 1/5: Jayeda is a sweet girl who calmly got in and out of the kennel. Once she got outside she showed her outgoing personality! She was a tad jumpy, but was easily redirected. Jayeda is definitely house trained and a very sweet girl!

1/4 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Jayeda was laying on the bed and looked up with wide eyes. She came forward slowly with a tense body and sniffed the leash and was a bit nervous when it went over her head and pulled her head back a little. Once secured she came out slowly.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING :
In the room, Jayeda came up to me with a wagging tail and soft eyes. She reached her head up to give some nice sniffs and then walked away. She preferred a lowered approach and gave some sweet wags. She was a bit nervous and cowered away with her ears back when the handler tried to approach her face on. She went to another handler for comfort and jumped up on their lap with mid level wags and gave some nice kisses. She was tolerant of all handling but still a bit nervous with touch she didn't know was going to happen, remaining unsure but sweet towards everything the rest of her eval. When the handler checked her ears and looked at her neck she tried to cower away with tucked wags. When offered a treat to please her she refused and cowered into the handler nervously, soliciting for comfort.
PLAY:
Nervous but somewhat interested – looked up the handler with a low wagging tail
TOYS:
Nervous– interest but no possession

Per staff 1/4: Bright, alert, and responsive, friendly, handled well

Per staff 1/3: Recreation workers found dog and it followed them back to the building. Friendly, allowed me to pick her up. Scared of loud noises and was very anxious once we left the park.

MEDICAL:
On 1/12, Jayeda was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested positive for pneumovirus, but retested negative on 1/21.

On 1/7, Jayeda was spayed.

During her intake exam on 1/4, Jayeda’s eyes, ears, and nose were clean and clear. She had some staining on her canine teeth and a few spots of missing hair, but appeared to be in good health overall.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
